Hey all,

Hope everyone's doing well.
It's time! New gun time is upon me once again thanks to some weird Facebook lawsuit I guess I signed onto at some point in the last few years , they sent me about $400. I've been stashing a few bucks here and there and now got an extra bit of money to throw on it to bring me up to just about enough extra money to get what I want.

But what?
Impossible question. I've had what I need for many years but my list of wants is large and supply is small. I've lusted after a bfr in 500 jrh for a few years , tough to get and I've got nothing for it. More sensible would be a handy sized saa type revolver like a ruger blackhawk, also tough to find.

What's a guy do?
I'm going to look and see what I can find I guess.

What's the point of this post ?
Well...
...
...
In a perfect world I'd find a used freedom arms 97 for $1000 sitting unloved in a case some place. Doubt that's going to happen. Or maybe find a new blackhawk in 45 colt without much fuss, I'm feeling doubtful. I've had some import saa clones (Taurus & uberti) and my feelings are mixed on them. I don't need to hotrod a 45 colt as I do have a srh & a fa83 for that. What I'd like is an easier to carry 5"ish 45 , single action.

I don't want weird telescoping firing pins or any hanky panky. Prefer a bisley grip but it's not a deal breaker one way the other. Reliable and durable with replacement parts that can actually be found.

So I wondered what you all thought, should I sit and wait for a good deal, play the gun broker game, order what I want and wait, try my luck with a repro saa import? Or what.

The money's not burning a hole in my pocket but if I wait too long something will come up and my funds will disappear kind of thing. I'm just drawn in multiple directions and thought you bunch of enablers could help me blow $1000 in the best possible way.

So whaddya think?

I would look for a Ruger convertible in LC/ACP, should be Blackhawks out there to fit your wants. Or, a Vaquero if you prefer those. My eyes need the rear sight of the Blackhawk.
I totally forgot about the vaquero ! I prefer adjustable sights but everything else about them is just right. I'll keep an eye out. As far as a convertible blackhawk, it would be extra expense for the acp cylinder that I know I'd never use.

I appreciate the response and do want a k6 but not this time. I'm well fixed for 357s and wanting to go single action on this one.

I would say try to hold out for the Blackhawk if that's what you really want.

I have tried to settle before, and it never works out. Ubertis are fairly readily available right now, but you say you have given one of those a try.

I had my eyes open for a Blackhawk for the past 18 months or so. I wanted a gun that would match with a Rossi 92 clone as far as strength is concerned. Finally lucked into a used one about a month ago. Haven't seen any new production in all that time frame, and just a couple of used New Vaqueros that were priced with great pride. I am guessing Ruger will get around to making some eventually. If you say you don't want/need to hot-rod and if you are fine with fixed sights then maybe a New Vaq would be okay for your needs. Hope you find what you are looking for.

I like pre-1982 S&W revolvers. A pleasant surprise was a 1938 K22 Outdoorsman. Absolutely the smoothest buttery action in both single and double action, accurate enough to perform surgery at 15 yards. I use it to warm up before shooting any other handgun. A pleasure to shoot. Recoil is overrated if you don’t need it.

I've been on the hunt for a Ruger Single Six in 32 H&R for a long time.
I haven't seen any Ruger single action at all in the flesh for many months.
Unfortunately GB might be your best option. I've considered it as there are always a few of the 32s posted there, but just can't bring myself to buy a used gun that I can't handle first.

Ruger New Model Vaquero with birds head grip in .45 Colt. Balances a little better than the heavier framed earlier (old) model according to CAS guys that have shot both of them.

Conceal ok in cold weather clothing (I wear one on occasion). I really like the montado hammer and beveled cylinder.

Another Option (although you said you’re not interested in the convertible).

If I were going to buy a revolver, it would be either the 8 shot .357 Ruger "Super GP100" or the 10 shot .22LR Ruger GP100. Probably the latter. .22LR DA revolvers are really a blast!

Well...if you like classic revolvers, or odd balls, or project ones,
Centerfire Systems has a bit of everything. A lot of bit of everything.
Just my two cents.

A minty old Model 19? Or a cherry Model 15? A nice K-22 in good shape? Maybe that sweet ol' Model 63 4" that's been sitting on the counter under the glass for two days now?

A new King Cobra Target? A nice Italian SAA clone and a few boxes of .45 Colt ammo?

Those would be my choices for a spare grand to spend on a revolver...

Yeah, I shot one side by side with a Colt King Cobra Target. While I found zero wrong with the Kimber (fit and finish are superb), the Colt's trigger was nicer and the sights just a smidge better. Worthy revolver, for sure, though!

@Obturation,

From what I could see in your post, I would say 44 Special Flattop Bisley. Ma preference is for bit thicker cylinder walls than on 45 Flattop. Or S&W 24/624. Both guns not too heavy, and strong enough for bit peppier loads than SAAMI spec.

Can't argue with this one:

I would haunt Gunbroker until I found a used Blackhawk in 45 colt (preferably with the 45acp cylinder) for a reasonable price. I might take a while. That's how I've gotten quite a few very specific handguns that I really wanted, and haven't paid through the nose for them. If it's takes a few months, that's okay. I'm not that busy, and it makes the success that much sweeter.

I have various SA revolvers. I shoot the Blackhawks best due to the large, adjustable sights. The Blackhawks are very sturdy, so I prefer to buy them used.

The Italian clones are generally good. An Italian SAA clone will have small fixed sights. It will not be safe for "Ruger Only" loads. Most members report liking theirs. I got mine NiB inexpensively. Its action is very smooth, it's as accurate as the small sights allow, and it's given me no problems.

I respect your position but please, if you choose to indulge in blasphemy do so in private .
Lol.
I know what you mean but I'm really in good shape on 22s. Not wanting a double action, I'm in good shape on them too.

I'm pretty deeply invested in 45 colt and sold off all my 44 stuff years ago. I never had a 44 spl but if I were starting all over again...who knows.

Think about a Redhawk in .45colt/.45acp.
(My bucket list item)
I want one too, not this time though. I do have a super redhawk in 454 and I do shoot a fair amount of 45 colt in it but I'm wanting something a bit lighter and single action. I still have my first gun I ever bought- a Taurus gaucho in 45 colt but it's getting tired and I don't shoot it much for a couple reasons. It has some issues and I prefer to let it just be an occasional shooter. It's got an oversized bore so I need to load specifically for it and the finish is pretty beat from storing it in a leather holster in my sock drawer through my 20s. I don't want to get rid of it but don't want to shoot it much either, one positive I can add is that it has a trigger pull that I would guess is below 1#, some people hate that but it's fun if you know it's that way.

I, too, have been searching for a while for a Blackhawk .45C. I have a Vaquero. It will be gone, as soon as I got the Blackhawk to replace it.

They are rare, but out there. The more specific the model, the harder the search.

Good luck. Don't settle. Get what you want.

I would look for a used blackhawk. If you get tired of looking…. Italian clone.

Given the criteria you've put forward, I think the obvious answer is a New Vaquero in .45 Colt.

Single Action, check.
.45 Colt, check.
No hot rodding need apply, check.

Concealable? Compared to some things, yes. To others, no. But it's a smaller lighter frame than the Blackhawk, and has snag free fixed sights. Whilst a Bisley grip frame may be preferable to you, a regular plow handle is easier to conceal. With the lower recoil of standard pressure .45, I don't think forgoing the Bisley will be detrimental to recoil management.

Personally, I think a 4-5/8" barrel would be better than the 5-1/2". More concealable, and probably not too much velocity loss on a big slow bullet.

You have been wanting a .500 JRH for a while now, I know you have posted a few times about it. I would get one before it becomes a (I wish I would have bought one regret…:D).

I am such a good guy here is one for sale from Reeds Sports off of Gunbroker. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/932463361 :D
I know. That is what I truly want but with a 5"ish barrel. They've been a bit hard to find, $1400 is fair for what they are too. It'll cost me though, dies, brass and a bullet mold too, probably be near $2000 by the time I'm setup and running. Tough desicion when I've got half of that but won't have any extra cost if I pickup a 45 colt gun. I know what you mean as for regretting not picking one up. What I'm looking for is a fun gun and I'm sure the 500 jrh is a lot of fun. Every dang time I've got bfr money I find a screaming deal I can't pass up. Maybe I'll just watch and see what happens. If I can't find a vaquero for a reasonable price and I've gathered a little more money I'll pop on the bfr . not a bad problem to have but I miss the days of $600 blackhawks and vaquero sitting at the gun store with not many folks giving them a second thought.

I know you said something like a SAA, and single action, but consider a S&W Model 25-5 or later, with a 4" barrel. Just as easy to carry, and just because it is a double action revolver doesn't mean you have to use it that way, it fires just fine in SA, and you won't find a nicer trigger. $1000 will just about do it, too, depending on how nice you want it.
