What revolver do you use for home defense?

Some of you folks seem to think the Zombie hoards will be kicking down your door by 0200 hrs. Good grief!

Dave

Ya never know. Best to be prepared. Maybe not zombies, but some kind of mob maybe, depending where you live and what the circumstances are (prolonged power outage, civil unrest, ...).

The little lady keeps a 7 shot GP100 under her pillow. I keep a 45ACP with a 10 round Wilson Combat mag and TLR1-HL on the night stand, and a 300Blackout pistol just below it.

I like shooting revolvers. And I have some interesting ones.

The drawback is firepower. No, I do not plan on missing but real-world misses are likely.
That is why a G34 is at hand in the house and a G26 is carried off my property.

A 20" Remington 870 with 4Buck-
.........and a Glock 21SF...... But I'll pick up the shotgun everytime before the handgun if things need to get serious......

This thread is all about what REVOLVER you use for home defense . . . Almost half the responses deal with using something other than the topic . . . It's amazing how many folks feel lead to enlighten folks that DO use revolvers that there is another type of firearm that could be used . . . as if we didn't know . . . as if we cared . . .

I know shotguns are still around
I know autoloader handguns are around
I know auto rifles are around
I know slingshots are around
Air rifles
Bows ( long, compound and recurve)
Knives
Swords
Baseball bats
Sticks
Hat pins
and more . . .

I choose what I've shot for 50 yrs of my 64 and almost half of this thread hasn't, can't, won't convince me otherwise.

I figure the Auto handgun threads must be so boring you feel the need to use up space over here . . . believe me, I understand. . . Lol!!!

I see that most folks use more modern revolvers and not BP revolvers but I am old fashioned. I did use 9mil, 45cal, and my Glock 40cal for my Navy career but the old western style revolvers have always been my favorite weapons. I always wanted to carry my revolver in the middle east while there but couldn't because of Navy regs. BUT now............being retired I get to do what I want-that is if my lovely wife agrees. I know that the smoke created by my BP revolver is a detriment indoors but I have used it doing tactical shooting and I am very used to the smoke created by this gun. I use the smoke indoors as a screen-you know-shoot and move. I know my house and the burgular does not. I am able to get down behind the smoke screen created and use tactical menuvers to eliminate the threat. This is simply my own opinion and not meant to sway anyone here. I am confident in my handling of my gun and that makes all the difference to me. Everyone else in my Family uses some very nice weapons; all the latest ones, and I am fine with that. I do shoot them once in a while but keep my gun in my holster around my waist and that is my every day carry.

My EDC Charter Arms Off Duty DAO loaded with Hornady Critical Defense or my Khar CW9 loaded the same. The Kahr carries a light and laser. To me, I like small revolvers as my EDC since they are more organic in shape and easier to conceal than a slab side. Just my two cents.

Well now, times they do change! My lovely Wife sees me at the range every time with my trusty ole 1858 Remington and she took it upon herself to get me a new revolver that I can shoot the entire time and not spend the live fire time loading my cylinder. I did repurpose an old holster I made for my Glock to carry on duty while I was Navy. I just cased it and put the new revolver in it; sun dried it and she looks like it was made for this gun specifically. After several coats of Olive Oil, she is ready for use. This is my now every day carry and I don't even know it is there half the time. Now does anyone know how to darken the ss used for the frame? I know Perma Blue does not work on ss so any offerings of help would be appreciated. tempImage4t2NUA.png tempImagenKk6wS.png tempImagerzuC8J.png

Ruger Super Redhawk Alaskan in 454 Casull loaded with Buffalo Bore 45 Colt Anti-Personnel Standard Pressure Low Flash 225 Grain Soft Cast Hollow Nose.

This was made to be a 45 Colt version of the 38 Special FBI Load.

My home defense revolver is a Charter Arms Professional III/#63546. The HKS 586 speed loader fits both my Professionals like a glove. For trips outside the house, I carry my Professional II/#63526.

absolutely one of my favorite revolvers

Oft repeated quote (made up as a pithy comment by a noted old firearms trainer) in our community, never really documented. And three feet? Uh, uh. But as well, there really is no average, because no one is really compiling statistics on "the average self-defense shooting." And some of us don't always plan for the average, we might plan for the worst. Like maybe, forty shots?

But, I do feel comfortable carrying a single-stack pistol with seven to nine rounds, and I do like carrying a revolver. And I've got a couple, such as this one, stashed around the house. Also my dog-walking gun...

Love that revolver and I am glad to own one!

What Spyderco is that? Endura 4? I like the blade to handle ratio!

1st choice is a 45ACP 1911 but for woods carry and home defense a Smith 625 mountain gun in 45 Colt.

For the desk, bedside and around the house: Colt Detective Special 2nd Issue .38Spl., Rossi M68 .38Spl., S&W Model of 1917 .45ACP (loaded .45Auto-Rim), Colt Cobra 1st Issue 38Spl., and I keep a Polish Radom 9mm Makarov in a tackle box in the store room. It might be loaded. It might even be in working condition.
This being a revolver forum, and the question asked being specifically about revolvers, please forgive the rude mention of a self-loading pistol.

6 shot 4.20" barreled GP100 Match Champion is my wife's pick for home defense. The 7 shot 6" barreled gp100 is just a little unwieldy for that use.
