Currently, I have a GP100 and SP101 revolvers. I will eventually sell my GP100 and replace it with a revolver with the following:

    • 357
    • 8 round capacity
    • Rails (Scope and Flashlight)

The only revolver that I have seen so far having all three of the above is the Smith & Wesson 327 TRR8. Is there another revolver out there?

    https://cdn.athlonoutdoors.com/wp-c.../08/1.-Umarex-SW-327-TRR8-and-accessories.jpg

Also, am I missing any revolver from my list that are 357 and 8 round capacity?
    • Taurus 608
    • Ruger Redhawk
    • Ruger Super GP
    • Smith & Wesson 627
    • Smith & Wesson 327
I will start another thread to ask on how to sell a gun.

    Thanks

Not many with what you're looking for out there. I would have bought a TRR8 years ago but I won't buy a S&W with that lock in it, especially for something I want as a home defense gun. Rare for it to engage but I'm just not doing it, better places for my gun money.

Not many 8 rders out there. Chiappa makes some Rhinos with rails but not 8 rds.

Wow! That one would be awesome if they made in a .44 Mag! It would be the perfect Montana hiking/camping gun!

BuckEye, it has bottom rail for flashlight but no top rail for scope? Can a top rail be added in afterward?

Can you help me understand the lock that you mentioned?

Are you sure the pic you posted isn't an air gun? Umarex does air guns.

Yes, I'm well aware of the actual TRR8. I think the pic in your OP was an air gun copy of a TRR8. Maybe not but even the rounds in the pic look like plastic BB holders.
    I could be wrong.

    S&W 327 M&P R8
    https://www.smith-wesson.com/firearms/performance-center-model-mp-r8

It does come with a scope rail - see pictures in linked article:

    S&W 327 TRR8
    https://www.smith-wesson.com/firearms/performance-center-model-327-trr8

It comes with upper and lower rails to attach various doodads. This article also talks about the R8 a differences between the two.

very good articles! Now I know both can mount scopes. The last article didn't really get into the differences much between the two.

There are drilled and tapped holes on the top of the R8 for mounting the top rail. The bottom rail does not get in the way, but mounting a light to it for a home defense gun is an excellent idea.

My shootin' buddy has an R8 that I've fired on several occasions. It's not overly heavy, it has a Performance Center trigger, it shoots well, and having those 8 rounds sure are nice.

Not the R8 but a similar gun with light weight frame in 44 speical. A friend has two and both will bind from time to time. Hammer won't move and a gun Smith had to take them apart and free them. Not sure why they have tried different lube etc. Now understand these are carry guns and see daily use. So dust dirt etc is present. But the same guy carries ss guns without the binding.

The new model S&W's have a key lock in the side of them. Sadly, that model seems to have always had the lock in it. Light weight revolvers have had rare issues with the lock engaging under recoil which I why I have not bought one. Also, I just HATE the thing but that is my issue. Don't want a key required for my revolver to run.

Where is your info coming from on the lock engaging on light revolvers?
Did you witness this or just hear this?
I have a 327 Night Guard and a model 60 Pro and have run hundreds of Magnum rounds through them and never had the lock engage.
If hundreds of Magnum loads in a really light 60 Pro won’t actuate they lock I don’t think a TRR8 or an R8 will ever have a problem.

I do not own one as I stated. The cases are well documented if you look for them to include them going back to S&W for repair.

I said it was rare. Your sample size of 2 doesn't mean it won't happen to others.

If they are such a great idea and 100% reliable, then why does S&W still make several models without the lock?

In closing, I want to be clear (as I stated above) that I HATE the lock to an irrational level. I see it on par with Ford telling me I have to submit to weekly proctology exams if I buy one of their new trucks and need 3 keys for it to start, oh, and it may (rarely) shut off at will. When a manufacturer adds a "feature" which I can't stand and which (I admit) limited evidence shows is possibly a liability I go elsewhere. I'm getting old and stuck in my ways, other makers produce fine revolvers without a lock on them and I spend my money with them.

Taurus raging Hunter? I’m not sure of capacity but it definitely has rails.

I actually wanted the Taurus 608 which is so much more affordable but this dam state does not issue it. I kind of understand why they approve the Smith Wesson 627 and 327 now.

I have to do more research on the lock feature because this may also rule out an additional future purchase of the Smith Wesson 500. If it is not mechanical related and just aesthetic, I would be fine which I think that might be the case. I just need to research and think about this.

Seems like the GP100 does not want to depart with me.
