Huge Price Change on Recent Purchase

Thanks for the replies. I guess that happens with imported firearms. I guess I need to be more careful and watch the prices longer.

That's how I do it, watching and shopping for months, then the price goes UP. Firearms have a history of huge price swings because of outside events and political BS. You never know what prices will do in the future.

If the price went from $1,100 to $1,400 would you be offering to send them a check?

This. A company that did what you're asking would either need to inflate their prices to cover the refund you're asking for or be out of business. I own a business in the energy industry, in which prices move daily. Our customers often wait to make decisions. Sometimes they benefit from doing so, sometimes they don't. Our profit margins don't change, but the underlying cost does. Offering them a lower price if the market moves up would put us out of business.

I bought a POF-5 pistol (MP5 variant) a couple of weeks ago for $1400. The other day I found out that the price was reduced to about $1100. I emailed the company asking if I would get a rebate or something to make up for missing the sale price. The guy basically said they are not going back and offering refunds on previous orders.
Now I have serious buyers remorse for paying the extra $300 because I ordered it a couple of weeks too early. I thought the company could at least give me a gift card or something since I have bought several other things from them. I am thinking that I should not do business with this company again. What do you think about this situation?

So if you bought it from them for $1400 and the NEXT day you see that the price had risen to $2000 would you feel obligated to send them more money?

Hindsight is 20/20, if I can see what prices are 3 weeks down… heck 3 hours away, I would be the richest man on Earth and buy a country. 1st rule in my Country…wait wrong forum

Would you be willing to send them $300 if their prices went up?

If the answer is no, they are not treating you any differently than the way you would treat them.

FWIW right now is a great time to sell things, not buy them.

If that's company policy/practice, then that's their position.

I think you can do whatever you want to do and you can choose to do business with this company or not.

Why even ask THR about such a thing? If you are not happy with the company response, then "vent" on "Rate ... Retail Transactions" and move on with your life - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?forums/rate-private-and-retail-transactions.24/

BUT that's Costco's policy/practice and it's well known. Costco even said in an interview that such customer service/convenience is "factored" into their business model even though they do not make money on hot dogs/roast chickens and lose money on customer returns after sales/price drops (But they take their customers to town on toilet paper/pizza ... Yeah, Costco is like the largest pizza chain in the US and toilet paper is a consumable we use on a regular basis ;)).
I just bought a $600 vacuum cleaner from Costco! and spend $100+ on food :( (need to go on a diet) 2-3 times a week. So yeah, Costco makes money off me. Now Berreta, they only get a sale from me 1 every few years. See what I’m saying

It was worth what you payed to you when you bought it and you were happy---until it went on sale so now you want a rebate. Put on your big boy britches and get over it. I have lost count of having this happen with various things over the years and never expected a rebate. Instead I just though, "Well, if I had just waited for a little while" and went on with no hard feelings. Most companies have sales and then return to regular pricing.

You can't blame the company because you missed out on a sale or price drop. It's frustrating but it's life. If I was happy doing business with them up until this incident I would continue to do so.

That's capitalism matey. You buy at the price being offered or you don't.

As Demi-Human noted, you are not alone. I bought a Franchi Renaissance
double for $1400, and the company was offering a $200 rebate a month later. I have enjoyed using the gun, it still has value I will recover upon sale, and if I had waited too long I may have missed the opportunity altogether as they are no longer imported. Yes, there was a moment of consternation, but nothing worth holding onto. Enjoy the gun!

I only buy "on sale".

If not on sale, I ask when it might go on sale?

If it is not going on sale, how bad do I want it?

All the comments suggesting you willingly paid what they asked, they don't owe you anything are correct. However that line of thinking is the blueprint for losing loyal customers. Right now demand may be such that customer loyalty isn't a huge deal, but things change. A discount card and a couple of free accessories could have been a good option.

I still think they need to give me something so that I don't have so much buyers remorse. I could have bought 6 new metal mags for that $300. Companies need to worry about losing customers when sales start slowing down. I thought it was a great company to buy from until this situation.

Pudge, I think this big POF price drop is an indication that firearm sales are slowing down.
Woohoo! :D

Same thing is happening to 22LR as we broke through below $35/500 shipped - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...t-shipped-pricing.902560/page-8#post-12366893

So those that stocked up at $40/500 shipped, should they demand a refund for the difference?

I still think they need to give me something so that I don't have so much buyers remorse.
This may help with your situation.

Whenever I have difficulty making a decision in life or what to do, I have used this "99 year old rocking chair test" which has worked 99.9% of the time (Yup, comes with money back guarantee ... or whatever you spent on this advice).

Imagine you travel to the future and face your 99 year old self rocking in a rocking chair on the porch. Ask your future self the same question and you will get an immediate answer even before you finish your question (Always worked for me what to do in the present).

You are very welcome ;) (Wisdom of my brief 56 years on this planet and being married 28 years to an AMAZING and WONDERFUL wife ... Yeah, she paid me to say that :p).

Mortgage interest rate is up to 6% … I refi 2 house in 2020 a total of 7 times. So I should write a check to Wall Street for 3.7%! Also, Checks are now very expensive

I agree with you. I mean for heck sakes, a couple of years ago I bought one of those "jump starters" from Costco for $89.95, and two weeks later I saw they were on sale for $69.95.
It ticked me off, and I was telling our son-in-law about it. He advised me to just take the receipt back to Costco. He said they'd make good on it, and they did - they refunded me $20.00. And that was Costco! I'd think a company selling guns would be at least as decent about price changes as Costco. o_O
On the other hand, as someone else posted - you thought it was worth $1400 when you bought it, so you probably shouldn't lose any sleep over it. ;)

Plus you got a hot dog and Coke for $1.50, I'll bet the gun company wouldn't do that.
