Open question here - just looking for a good conversation and discussion.

Do you have a certain bullet you cast that is somehow *just right*? If so, let us know the bullet and the mold.

For me, it's the Lyman 429421 for the 44. I have two of them (a double and a single cavity), and load up hardball (92-2-6) for my 44 Special and 44 Mag. Both molds drop perfect bullets, sometimes from the first pour - there's something magic about the mold and the bullet. Loaded up with Skeeter Skelton's recipe (7.5gr Unique - safe for my 44 Spl Blackhawk and 44 Mag Super Blackhawk, but use at your own risk and discretion) in 44 Spl brass, it's a "do everything" round that shoots like a laser, hits with authority, and doesn't cause aches and pains in my wrist.

So, what do you have that is your "Goldilocks bullet"?

Ahutch. The stars align. I use the same mold for both my Superedhawk and my Rossi 92!

Yes, I forgot to mention that I shoot the same round from my Marlin 1894. Good medicine for everything from armadillo to deer. Get about 200fps additional from the long barrel, which makes it a perfect 75 yard gun!

For the most used it would be MP molds, and H&G.

With the MP, my favorites are by caliber, the MP 357-125 HP PB, 359-640 HP PB, 402-180 HP PB, MP 413-640 PB HP, and the 432 & 454-640 PB HP. All of those are in 4C brass and came with at least 3 pin sets so I can cover about any hunting need I could imagine. I am also really partial to the 452-200 for my 45 ACP loads. When I got my first of those 640 series or type molds I found out real quick how accurate they were out of my Redhawk and since I hunt with them I just had to try the others and haven't been disappointed. The 359-640 has dual crimp grooves to allow 38 or 357, or short or long cylinder crimps. With my alloy the large HP drops at 160gr and over AA-9 is awesome accurate and hit hard on game out of the 6" GP100'S.

With the HG it's the 50 for 38s and the 68, 78, and 130 for 45ACP. I usually run at least a 20#+ batch of these when I pour them. Over 4.2gr of Bullseye, or 5.0gr of AA5 they just rip one raggedy hole in the targets. They are almost boring to shoot.

All that said though, I also pour a goodly amount from Accurate, NOE, Lyman, and Lee. Those are more specific type uses versus the others which are my go to loads.

Favorites -Saeco 44, #441, RCBS 38-150 lswc. Lyman 45 acp lswc #452630.

I have some other Lee molds that work, but harder to make good bullets with. Can't beat the price.

full.jpg The 30 caliber is a Lyman 170 gr #311291, that worked well in 1903 Springfield, Contender & 30WCF.

I don't cast, but I use a lot of cast bullets in my reloading. One of my favorites is the Cast Performance 250grn FN/GC in .41; I have never fired it in anything where it didn't show good results.

Easy answer....

Saeco 85g 6mm. IMR4831 a grain or so over book starting JB load,in an especially clean 1980 R700V 6mm Remington.

Better than ketchup N fries,or PB&J.... stoopid accurate.

My favorite is the H&g #503 clone from mp, loaded over 7.5gn unique in my 44 spl Blackhawk. Runner up is Lee 309 170gn fn gc in 30-30

I like the Lee 358-158gr RNFP cowboy bullet. I have shot a bunch of them. I also like the Lee 356-120gr TC bullet, likewise a lot of them too.

The 358-429 and 429-421 are both great bullets too.

I'm fond of the RCBS 32-098 as well.

I cast and reloaded a whole bunch of 429421s over the years mostly for 4, 44 Magnums, but got tired of fiddling with the SWC in my Puma, so I got a Ranch Dog 240 RNFP, excellent bullet. Another favorite is a Lachmiller 160 gr. SWC OK for 38 Special, and excellent for 357 Magnum...

By far in 44, it's the RCBS 44-250KT.

I've won MANY long range pistol shoots with it. In fact, I won 13 matches in a row using that bullet, over 23 grains of H110, CCI 350 primer, ALOX lube.

It cast very nice bullets, I've cast untold thousands of them and much prefer it over the Lyman 429421.

Have you hunted with that Lee bullet (the 170gr GC RN) in 30-30? I cast that and shoot it in 30-30 and 308, but haven’t hunted with it. I’ve always been curious about the performance - in 30-30 I load it to about 1800fps, and 2000fps in 308. In 30 cal for hunting I always seem to fall back to Interlocks, because they’ve always worked for me…but it hasn’t stopped me from pondering a change.

45 caliber, 230 gr round nose. Manufacturer or mould number not very important as most are pretty much the same.

I do enjoy shooting my 1911’s.

From everything I’ve read online it works great for hunting. I’m planning to try it out this season to see for myself. Word is anything north of 1800fps should do the deed.

My favorite bullet is a 185 grain .358 LRN bullet that I casted myself in an LBT mold that he made special for me. It's normally a 180 Flat Point but I asked him to make it for my revolver and my reloads need a round nose bullet.

Promising that it would shoot 1 inch at 25 yards with the right load I started with Unique Powder and found 4.5 grains would do the job.

Wow ! Hard to say. I’ve got over 100 molds...

I’ve got both the Lyman and RCBS version of the 429421. I like the older Lyman a little better. It’s the second mold I ever bought. Circa 1976.

If I had to call a favorite, It’d have to be a Lee .309”-150gr FNGC single cavity I bought in 1975. It is the one that got me started. My older brother had it for 30+ years and used it for everything from Colombian ground squirrels to deer while in the USAF.
I replaced it with a 2-cavity version.
Cast from scrap lead and lubed and loaded unsized it is an awesome cheap pinker! 5-10gr of whatever shotgun powder in a neck sized case!
Was cheaper than .22lr before primers became insane!!!
