bought a couple of revolvers from the lgs yesterday. original price was $580 and was able to have them drop it down to $550 with me buying the other revolver. a lot of wear and some external pitting but the cylinder and bore looks good. so for both revolvers the average price was $475 for the K38 and 17-2. Hopefully it will be a good shooter. 20221110_080829.jpg 20221110_080616.jpg 20221110_085056.jpg 20221110_085255.jpg 20221110_085328.jpg 20221110_085221.jpg 20221110_083438.jpg 20221110_085137.jpg 20221110_084842.jpg 20221110_085008.jpg

Looks like damage from improper storage maybe. Character, that's how I would describe it.
Anyway, I would have been all over that 17-2 for that price.
yeah the worst of the pitting on the cylinder and the left side of he barrel was probably from how it was stored

You will be happy! :)

I got a "pre Model 17" for a similar price a few years ago, because the finish was worn in places and it had incorrect grips.

I shoot it the most out of all of my handguns, so apparently it's my favorite.

On a good day, such as yesterday, I can outshoot my Buck Mark or Ruger Marks with it. On those days it is my most accurate handgun.

I know you'll enjoy it! :)

I have a 17-3 that shoots very accurately with CCI Standard Velocity loads. It also likes nearly all the Aguila .22 ammo and Federal blue box.

Congrats on both your acquisitions. Try some museum was on those blemishes on the 17. It gives a gun more character. ;)

I'd be all over those at that price. The worn spots I'd just touch up with Oxpho Blue and call it a day.

Sweet!

I like rescue guns like that. They’re usually rough outside but nice inside, so the price paid reflects the sex appeal rather than the character.

My Model 15 had a grip that was pretty surface-rusty and the sides were holster worn. I had it restoration blued so it looks a lot better. (The Thai grips aren’t as orangey anymore, I stripped the finish and oiled them.)

This 3” Model 36 had the bluing stripped away and was Bubba-polished with what looks like steel wool,
It also was reblued to bring it back to life.

My 4” Model 58 (Grail gun!) had some ulgy pitting on the left side at the grip. It was cleaned up and the rough spot touched up.

The worst was my Ruger Standard auto. The bluing was shot and it was so pitted the serial number was almost worn off. But, the insides were untouched so I had it cerakoted and it looks ok and shoots great.

Let us know how it shoots for you when you get a chance.

Stay safe.
