PRS/NRL22 rifle

Running EGW "0" base and Keystone mediums, but scope has a small objective and
local matches only go to 100 yds. This is a hunting gun first.

Like the rings but think they are a bit bulky for a .22 lr.

All the scopes I'm looking at are 34mm tubes, Vortex Venom, Strike Eagle or the Arken EP5, I have a 30mm scope here now that I will look at when the gun and rail come in and see exactly what I need, I talked to my friend earlier and I think we can get from 1" to 1.5" rings between us but that will be with a 30mm tube. He has a Strike Eagle that we will also try but all he has is 1.5" mount (AR10). He loves his Strike Eagle so I guess I need to look at that scope also.

I wouldn't sweat too much over the 1" vs. 1.5" - you're almost assuredly going to need a cheek riser for this set up, so adding .3" over target isn't really as much consequence as it might feel.

But…

I can also do a little measuring on my Mark II’s later - I stated above that 1” rings wouldn’t work with a 56mm objective, but that’s corresponding to my centerfire rifles with long full diameter shanks and relatively low bases (integral or otherwise). I’m fairly certain I have 1.1” rings (not Burris) on my Dasher PRS rifle, but looking at my pistols with the Burris 1” high 34mm tube rings, I’d bet the Mark II has plenty of clearance for it.

For example, the stainless pistol here is a 50mm objective on an EGW 20moa mount with 40moa of inserts in the Burris XTR rings, plenty of clearance for a 56mm. The bronze pistol has 0.92” Seekins rings with a 50mm objective, also on an EGW 20moa rail, which has less clearance, but likely plenty for a 56z

Here’s another 34mm tube 1” tall set of Burris XTR rings with a 50mm objective on a 20moa Nightforce rail, plenty of room even with that Proof Competition Contour barrel to get a 56mm in there.

I don’t want to sidetrack this thread, because it’s very educational for me. With that said, I’m unfamiliar with the competition for which this rifle is being built. If I were curious about it, where would i find information?

Thank everyone for the pics, some great examples, looks like the 1" rings should not be a problem, I've been able to find them in multiple places. The rifle should be here later this week due to the holiday weekend, maybe I can get up to my friends house next week to check out his scope. Yes I am looking at adding a cheek riser, deciding when it comes in weather to go adjustable or rigid.

Adjustable works well if you have different shooters on the line at the same time. I use Victor Company Universal Cheek risers on a lot of rifles, they’re rigid, but have available shims to change height, and there are no knobs sticking out, very sleek. $50 for a bolt on riser instead of a few hundred bucks for a new stock option. I think this Boyd’s stock is over $400 now in this configuration. So the Victor riser is pretty appealing.

Shooting off props under a time limit, moves pretty fast, targets can be small, the more accurate the rifle the better, but wind calls are king.

Spats McGee, The obstacles Walkalong showed, you had 90sec to shoot from 10-12 targets, 55-267yrds, changing position every 2 or 3 shots, the only one where you didn't have to move was 5 targets far to near then near to far 55,75,95,165 and 185yrds. Walkalong loaned me a VERY accurate gun AND after showing me how. he did all the dope work. I was worn out both physically and mentally moving to positions I would've never thought I would be in TRYING to shoot accurately AND remembering what to shoot and when to move. I want to try it again and bring my grandson along. Everyone there was very friendly and helpful, I would say equal to the friendliness and helpfulness of staff at the CMP Talladega.

I've narrowed down my optic choices, deciding between,
Vortex Venom 5-25x56; Arken EP5 5-25x56, Athlon Argos 6-24x50, Riton X3conquer.
Vortex and Athlon I've heard of, Arken and Riton gets good reviews, Arken comes with a 20moa mount which makes it about the same price as the Vortex and Athlon, Riton is the cheapest.
I've looked at Crimson Trace, Sightmark, Swampfox, Burris, US Optics, SWFA, and some others but they either didn't have zero stop, to far a parallax, or retail was above $1k putting me over the production limit

Here's a good deal on the Venom. I've bought many scopes from this site. They come in the factory box with everything.

Not much movement on this stage, but we did have to shoot 3 targets going out strong side, then 3 targets coming back in weak side, 2 shots each.

Curious if all the matches have weak side shots? Are there exceptions for folks blind in one eye( like me)? Thanks

Weak side shooting isn’t always part of the match. Sometimes though.

Even when they have it, this was the first time they ever said weak side everything but running the bolt, including the eye. So I think it would rarely be an issue, and one I would hope they would not penalize you for.

None of the stages we shot had weak/off side shooting, I was reading where compromises can be offered for issues like you have, IF everyone agrees and I couldn't imagine anyone that was at that shoot having a problem.

Another thing I noticed was the weight of the rifles, I would imagine over 10lbs judging from the couple I handled.

The one you shot is 15/16 pounds, IIRC, but the young kids run some really heavy rifles.

Did you notice the RimX with the full length 1.2” barrel in an aluminum chassis? Yikes! :)

FWIW
I am strongly right eye dominant, but shoot both eyes open.
Always have.
My left eye doesn't turn left much, Duane's Syndrome.
So if they said "weak side" Id just take a zero.
Aint gonna even try.
I can hook my right while behind the scope and blur it, which then makes my left dominant and clear.
So I could be on a rifle and look "around" at wind flags without head movement.
Heck I grew up varminting and clicked like that, never thought anything about it.
Older, my eyes tire faster and switching dominance REALLY strains me. Just a few times and a dull headache comes on.
Sucks getting old.
Still shoot decent w the "good eye"

BTW, now you know the meaning behind my screen name LOL

I think a good budget rig would be a Bergara with an Arken on top. I've got to shoot with 3 or 4 of them and they shoot well out of the box.

Which Bergara?

The B14Rs I'm looking at are all over $1000. I'm thinking of going the same route because the 457s are about unobtanium right now, and the B14R will at least have the 700 footprint for modification/upgrading.
