New turret press under development with 3/4/5/6 configuration turrets

Looks like Lee designed the shell holder retainer to work with regular Lee shell holders from tight friction fit and "floating" shell holder retainer (When used with regular Lee shell holder, retainer fingers hold the shell holder tight while the "floating" clipped feet move in the slot.

But the new UTP shell holder that came with the kit has the cut step to better ensure the retainer fingers stay below the sliding case rim while retainer fingers move below the cut step.

Both features designed to allow case rim to slide above the retainer fingers onto the ramp/box bin instead of getting caught/blocked by the retainer fingers.
LiveLife do you know if Lee has new part numbers for UTP shell holders?

Hello John,
Our shell holders have evolved through the years and the current design that is shipping now are all the same. Any of our Universal shell holder product line will be same as the ones that arrived with your Ultimate Turret press and can be purchased here: https://leeprecision.com/universal-shell-holder
In the case of the chicken or the egg. Here the shell holder came first, and the press followed.

Hello John,
Just want to further reiterate that the design of the retainer ring is different than any other press so that the shell holder is retained yet can rotate freely. The industry almost universally uses 13/16 OD on shell holders, so any shell holder should work.

This is "open" collaboration between manufacturer and customer base at work and I received a long insightful email from president John Lee with some history behind various product development regarding Super Tray, never produced "Dillon 550 killer" press, stepped "M" style powder through expander, and Ultimate Turret Press.

Here is portion of email regarding the Ultimate Turret Press and removal of detent pin I had trouble with for single station mode operation:

Thanks for the follow up. I'm a lot older than you and I can't fathom how it would be difficult to remove the detent screw. The screw must have been cross threaded or damaged in some way.
None the less I have asked the staff to remove the suggestion to remove and upend the detent pin.
When the staff was working on the instructions I made the suggestion to relocate the pin to lock the turret in place. There isn't a really good reason to do it as every stroke of the press will realign the turret ...

This was verified when various headstamp 9mm and once-fired R-P .223 brass were resized in single station mode (Testing at bottom of post) as tip of detent pin going up is guided by cone shaped bottom opening of the index holes in the tool carrier/turret.

Getting ready to purchase using Lee's trade-in program. Send an email to CS asking for the trade-in. They will send you back an email asking for a picture of your Classic Turret press with your drivers license. Send that back in and they will create an invoice with the discount (50%). The kit is $210 + tax, press only is $160 + tax, shipped free. I used this program for the new Pro 1000 and my second 6PP, no problems at all.

Good morning everyone, I have been a Cast Turret press user for many years, I just received the Ultimate unit and have it set up and loading 9mm Luger. everything works fine except the primer arm, It wants to stick and not come out of the ram sometimes and it also spits primers out on the floor. I have put the old primer holder/feeder on and it feeds better, so I am ok with that but the arm sticking is baffling to me. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

Single primer arm is strictly held in the ram slot by gravity and should be moving freely (Rocking to insert primer and pull out for removal). The slot opening primer arm is inserted into is part of the tool head. Check the slot for any thing that could hinder/bind the primer arm.

Is that a plastic (nylon) toolhead that the primer arm drops into?

If so, I would be less concerned about the slot itself, and more concerned with the primer arm.

I took all my primer arms and polished the sides with 400 grit wet sandpaper. Lay the paper on the bench, wet it, slide the primer arm around in circles. Don't press down, let the grit do the work.

Yeah, them primer arms are different than what is used in the LCT, or any of the other older presses. I see what you mean.
Things Lee Precision is making these days are definitely not like what they made 30 years ago. :)

This is what I get for popping off and sounding like I know something. ;)
I know what you mean ... After 29 years of marriage, often there are days I can't seem to get anything right, say anything right, think anything right, don't even realize I have anything right according to my wife.

True story ... I am getting ready to roll out the trash cans thinking it's Wednesday and wife goes, "Honey, you KNOW it's only Monday, RIGHT?"

Lee Precision has embraced the "Open Source" approach to product development with "Real Time" collaboration with customers/end users to develop and improve their product lines.

As well demonstrated and documented, "Open Source" approach to various computer operating systems (OS) like Free BSD and Linux distributions, has produced faster product development and improvement cycles over proprietary OS development to where increasing number of companies like Apple (for OS X and newer) are utilizing "Open Source" approach.

The Ultimate Turret Press (UTP) and other recent Lee Precision product development (Like stepped "M" style powder through expander, inline bullet feeder die with rotary magazine, gated 5 tube case feeder, Deluxe PPM, Deluxe Auto Drum, Deluxe APP, Six Pack Pro, 2023 Pro 1000 and latest Super Tray, etc.) are the result of Lee Precision responding to expressed customer needs/wants on forums like THR with active collaboration through beta/product testing feedback.

So the UTP is not the result of "We made a press ... Buy our press, as is" approach rather "What do you want in a press? ... We built a press to meet your needs/wants" approach.

Kudos 👍
I like this approach by Lee I have been using there products exclusively for 29 years. If that is the case they need to make a better more ergonomic handle for the Value Turret Press I just bought it needs to have a offset so it doesn’t hit the Safety Prime I have knocked it off several times and dumped primers all over the floor plus it needs to be shaped like the new UTP one is so you don’t have to bend over so far . I contacted Lee about it but all I get is loosen up the linkage and put the handle farther into it but that really solves nothing . What I did temporarily is change it to the left side but that is just a temporary fix I have a friend who thinks he can bend it to how I would like it .
Live Life can you bring this up with your contact at Lee I would think they would sell a lot of them if they did and maybe they will drop this press with the introduction of the UTP so maybe it is of no interest to them either.
Thanks Fred

I do not have the Value Turret press but found this video that shows the roller handle clearing the Safety Prime to the left at 3:45 minute of video.

I watched the video I see what he did the handle is mounted on the left side of the linkage with the handle facing right I am going to have to see if that helps. I did what Andy at Lee suggested and put it deeper into the linkage it helps but is not perfect I bought this to replace my old red base Lee turret press , I think I am just spoiled by my LCT . I have an extra handle from my old one as I had put a new linkage on it about 6 years ago I am going to see if I can bend one with an offset . Thanks for the video.

You are welcome.

FYI, Value Turret shares linkage/handle with Pro 1000/ABLP and Classic Cast Turret shares linkage/handle with Ultimate Turret Press/Six Pack Pro/Classic Cast single stage/.50 BMG press. Since two handles are of different diameter, they are not interchangeable.

SPP/LCT ball handle on the left, SPP/LCT/Ultimate Turret Press roller handle in the middle and Value Turret/Pro 1000/ABLP roller handle on the right
