DEA agent that shot himself is due to be on NBC Today Show this morning.

Thanks for the heads up. I turned it on with about 30 seconds to spare.

So he said he cleared the weapon without removing the magazine first.....well then he didn't clear the weapon;)

Pretty benign interview. He basically admits to the "accident", states that AD's happen "all the time" (I sure hope not), and this video has ruined his career. My opinion, he should just slip into obscurity and let sleeping dog lay.

Yeah, he's not really helping his case, is he?

No kidding. What is he doing, trying to get sympathy?

That video is not going to make him become a sympathetic character no matter how many times it's shown.

He comes across as a jerk in the video and there's probably a real good reason for that......

Keep digging that hole RastaNarc, NBC just provided you with another shovel.

Im a hardcore Opie & Anthony Fan(Pest) which is a XM radio show. They normally have Patice O'neal on who is the host of Web Junk 20(a VH1 internet clip show). They are talking about it right now with Patrice in studio. Web Junk 20 was listed on the official compaint. They are bashing this guy! lol!

Sheez,
Since I was about 10 years old I've been shooting. The closest I've come to being a "pro" was when I worked for an armored transport company, where I carried a Ruger P95.
I've owned a number of widely dissimilar firearms since I was a kid, and I have never, ever, had an AD. (Not to say I never will)
I'm sure with this guy's JBT attitude, I'm a real amateur and not able to handle the "Glock Foatty".
The safeties on the Glock (other than the passive built-in ones) are all lodged inside the operator's skull.
All my babbling leads to this: the safety device malfunctioned on him.

...the moron.
:neener:

I enjoy watching idiots try and 'save face' and in the process alert even more people to the fact that they are idiots.

There will be RastaNarc T.Shirts before the month is over.

Video of TODAY Show appearance available here: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032633/ Go down left hand column to "Today Video" and then selet "Cop accidentally shoots himself"

It is amazing how Matt Lauer fawns over him. Mr. Piane still manages to look foolish. I'd love to see him go on the O'Reilly Factor or such.

Based on his statement, he intentionally pulled the trigger as a precursor to disassembly. He "cleared" the semi-auto without dropping the mag.

I think that he truly wants to help kids not make bad choices that ruin their lives. I think his lesson in humility (if he would choose to learn it instead of blaming others) will do him good.

Are you guys sure he doesn't work for the ATF? He seems to know about as much about firearms as they do.

I sat through..

an hour and fifteen minutes of their, NBC's, dreck (thanks for the heads up guys) to watch about 5 minutes of logical disconnect...

Clearing a semi-auto handgun without first dropping the mag is not clearing the firearm...it's simply rotating the cartridge in the chamber. Any of my beginning firearms safety class students can get that one right.

The video appearing on the internet was not what prevents him from being an undercover agent for the DEA...his collateral duty of appearing before groups as a "demand reduction program" spokesperson where he parades around in front of groups of people wearing a shirt that says DEA on one side and POLICE on the other pretty is what negates any ability to be covert.

The whole idea that anyone would think the actions displayed on the videotape, even without the NEGLIGENT (he kept mispronouncing that word on the interview) discharge, were anywhere even bumping up against any safety standards is looney. Let's see: had live ammo in a classroom with firearms (no live ammo allowed in classroom environments), no established safe direction (always establish a good safe direction when handling firearms), never point the muzzle at anything you're not willing to destroy (his own thigh, not to mention probably 95% of the people in the room).

When you're neck deep in dung, stop squirming your way deeper into the pit. I would love to be on that jury. I can't believe none of the parents of the children in the room haven't sued him and the DEA for endangering the childrens lives and the emotional trauma of having a gun pointed at them.

Sorry, I didn't make myself clear...

Me, when I'm doing a basic handgun safety class (this being the required standard as noted in paragraph 5 of the "Training Aids" listing of Lesson 1 of the NRA Basic Pistol Shooting course, page III-7 of the instructors manual.)

Don't the least competent usually get the school children dog and pony show jobs?

There is a saying for this guy "Visibility triggers the coporate immune system".

[sarcasm] You know what his problem was? He was using one of those plastic saturday night special guns that can go through metal detectors! You know how nefarious those can be. It's a terrorists dream! [/sarcasm]

Yes, he did...

in fact a person identified as his lawyer was sitting next to him during the entire interview. This might explain the behaviour of the interviewer somewhat.
