Yea, that guy I saw on a HD yesterday was a REAL biker - t-shirt, shorts and sandals and talking on a cell phone at a stop light. :D

It ain't the bike that makes a biker, for sure. 2001 Valkyrie Interestate here.

Here's a shot someone took of us at the Grand Canyon:

And here's one of the wife's Dyna when we got married on our bikes:

Ride on!

denfoote,
Problem is .... most "bikers" aren't real .... just 'wannabies'. The majority are just 'drunks' with leather jackets, and a chip on their shoulder, trying way too hard to 'impress' people.

Bigjake,
You've got a point, but I'm just wondering (for grins), what the HP rating on the Valkyrie is .... compared to the Glide.

.... 2 - 1 - 0

m1aman:

Mmmm.... Wide Glide. Still trying to decide whether the next one will be the Wide Glide, a Softail, or a Fat Boy. I kinda prefer the handling of a skinny front tire, but that Fat Boy has definitely got the looks...

Dev_null:

If I was forced into a new Harley, it would have to be the Night Train softail..... ohh yeah

bout them guns.... whats the best way to strap a scabard on an oldschool harley as opposed to a late model job???

Bigjake said:
.... hey now, i never presumed to play the valk against the glide, just the leadwing VS the ultraglide ...
Oh I know .... I'm just curious, no reason in particular. They're two totally different species of animal, however I know nothing concerning the specs on a Val.

Actually, if I were ever to acquire another 2 (or 3) wheeled vehicle, I've always wanted to build a three wheeler, similar to one that I had ridden once about 30 years back .... this one had a 327 Chevy engine in it. That thing was a blast .... to say the least.

if i didn't already have a wg i would love to get the new 06 model. i am a tall and wide and it is the biggest thing going these days. not to mention a sixth gear and longer rake. the little front tire makes it easier to handle in curves. more agile than those fat front tires are. around here harleys have dropped in price about $500-$750 in the last 3 years. better bikes, less money hmm........... maybe i need to trade in :)

Ha! You know how many times stupid motorcycles have blown out my eardrums driving past?

Goldwings are about as loud as my mom's sewing maching. They are marketed as an alternative to retiring in Florida. The guy was probably a direct descendant of the old dude that used to shake his fist at you 'durn kids when you were playing in the street.

On a side note the Valkryie is quite possibly the ugliest motorcycle ever made. For the record I ride a Honda (cb750) and it's pretty damn fugly too.

Sheesh...all this talk of Goldwings, Glides, and other monster trash haulers...

Whatever happened to, "if it don't fit in yer pockets, it don't go on the trip"
:)

As for me...less is best and chrome is king!!

Cool Jake. I noticed you got rid of the stock oil bag. The way it stuck out could get your leg pretty hot after awhile. You guys are making me feel guilty. Now I'm gonna have to take mine down to the car wash today and clean her up. She's lookin' a bit dirty.

Biker

Now THAT'S real riding!!! Nothing extra, nothing fancy, make do with what you got. Nice area too.

My pic is from Deal's Gap (Tail of the Dragon) on the NC/Tennessee border. 318 curves in 11 miles!!!!! YEEEEEEHAAWWWWW!!!

By the way, what does "1%-er" mean?
Coined by the Hells Angels, it comes from the statement that 99% of all bikers are good, peaceful, law-abiding citizens. They are the other 1%.
Close enough for rock n roll.

In the aftermath of public horror over the events in Hollister CA that were fictionalized in Life Magazine and then fictionalized even more in the Brando/Marvin film 'The Wild One,' the American Motorcycle Association were quick to point the finger by playing the we're-the-good-ones-they're-the-bad-ones card and saying that 99% of motorcyclists in the US were fine upstanding citizens, and that it was only the remaining 1% who were the bad eggs. Bikers -- as in riders who didn't identify with the squeaky clean image the AMA was promoting -- quickly seized on the label "one percenter" as a kind of badge of honor. In time with the rise of "hardcore" bike clubs they all came to be called one percenters, many adopting a patch with "1%" on it.

Example

(Note that the Angels were not involved in the mess in Hollister, who were basically riding clubs consisting mainly of returned WWII vets that liked to get together and go on runs on weekends, and maybe drinking a beer or three at their destination. Which is how the HAMC and many other early clubs began as well.)

sweet! I'd like to see how they plan to stick a mag in that and fire one handed while moving. seems difficult.

TennTucker, Nice scoot man.

Since I ride a Yamaha Scooter, I'm not saying anything anybody's bike.

But I know this can't be that old.

I'm gonna call BS on the story also
Everyone knows you meet the nicest people on a Honda

You gotta be kinda old to get that one, I think

I remember it, and I'm not old.

Am I?

I was gonna say, Goldwing = Lincoln Town Car with two wheels, AKA "Elderly Retiree Criuser".

But as to calling all Hondas not real bikes...you've never seen a Valkyrie?

Or how about the Valkyrie Rune? 1870cc, I believe, V6. And yes, it's a Honda. Here.

Yeah, for 27 Grand? I can build one heck of a custom for that!!!!

As for the 1% they are eventually going to weed themselves out. I think they are about at .25 percenters now.

No disrespect but my grandaddy rode his Harleys and Indians all over this great USof A back in the day and he got ran out of towns because people hated bikers. He was not a thug was not a 1%.

Now I ride down the rode on my HD scoot and throw a wave and the 1% will not acknowledge you. My Grandpa owned more scoots then they ever will in all their 1% lifetimes put together. I respect anyone on two wheels! But then again the key word is respect.
