Does anyone know if they come bore sighted from the factory or do they usually require adjusting when they are new? I just bought a pair if the LG-405's and the POA and POI appears to be off. I have not shot the gun with them on yet so I can't say for sure.

In theory they do come set up - but that is no guarantee.

I have six sets on revo's and semi's and tho they were mostly close - I finished them off at the range.

Before range I did this - set gun aim with open sights at a mock target (unloaded of course!) - at about 21 ft. See where red dot lands. Insert the small Allen wrench and carefully tweak in the x and y axes until dot and iron sights aim coincide.

This should be about right but finally, put a few rounds down at the range - carefully at your chosen distance and make final adjustments. Remember, because the laser source is slightly down and right of bore axis, if you change distance a large amount from chosen zeroing range - there will be some parallax effect.

I find if I adjust for the magic 21ft - then pretty much all is good (effective) between 10 feet and out to at least 30 feet.

I love em - but impress on all folks they are only adjuncts - never make them primary. If light is low enough and you take a convensional aim with open sights, the dot will show without having to find it. Then it is a big plus.

i do what p95 mentions...set them for 7 yards or so and everything is good for the distances I shoot with them. It takes a few minutes of tweaking with the allen wrench and you should be good to go after that.

Preset from the factory for 50 feet. If you want some other distance 'dialed in' you can dial it in but the parallax from zero to 100 feet is about 1.5".

I never trust optical alignment. I run two or three 5-shot groups, adjusting between each group, for elevation - then do the same thing for windage. That way I'm sure that a hole will appear at the spot when I pull the trigger.

CT lasergrips/Taurus Protector .357

In 2004 I got a CT lasergrip for my Taurus .357magnum snub. I'm left handed and the CrimsonTrace lasergrip was off by a small margin. I adjusted the lasersight but the tiny pins stuck out a bit from the grip, :( . I could feel it in my hand and it would rub on my clothes/holster :cuss: . It also hurt when I shot the Protector because the recoil would jar my grip.

I saw an item online that CT plans to sell a new model of lasergrip for small frame Taurus revolvers. This maybe an improvement on the sight picture/adjustment features.

For heaven's sake put a big old piece of masking tape like a flag on the little tiny allen wrenches that come with it!

That way, when it sticks in the little tiny allen headed scew while you're doing the fine tuning at the range, and you drop it on the floor, in dim light, amid hundreds of empty casings, you have a half a chance of maybe finding it.

Don't ask me how I know.

As above., they are "sorta set" at the factory for 50 feet. But other than Queen Elizabeth, I don't know anyone with a hallway that long. So figure the distance you'll most likely need it, "in extremis", and adjust accordingly. 21 feet or so sounds about right to me too.

I never paid attention to where my Crimson Trace lasers were sighted in when I got them. I just moved them to the iron sights at 25+ yards and went from there.

I've got Crimson Trace grips on a 2 inch J Frame and Model 14 Smith and a Kimber Ultra.
I sight in my pistols at 25 yards. That way from past about 35 yards to arms length distance the bullet strike will be within a couple inches of the dot.

This laser talk got me fired up to do some laser shooting.:)
Several times this week I've been shooting the J Frame close up at 10-12 yards, from the hip right and left handed, just before dark. That close you can't hardly miss.

I hadn't shot from 25+ yards in a while, so I did this evening.

I can't say much for the shooting accuracy:eek: but the fun factor is way up there.:D

I used a Streamlight light on my FN 5.7 to take this picture but I didn't use a light with the laser. There's just enough light from my barn to identify the target without a flashlight.

I had to post this one to show I don't always scatter the shots around like that.:D

I was sighting in the laser and still had to move right some more yet.
Once sighted in that Crimson Trace holds zero very well. I haven't touched the adjustment since last Sept and I've shot a fair amount of full loads and some +P.

Ah yes but are you right or left handed???...

That may make a difference...:D

I shoot left handed so my POA/POI may be off from a right hander's CTC lasergrip sights.

I really like the CTC lasergrips but the little pin thing annoys me. :(

In a close range critical incident shot placement may not hard to deal with but for ranges from 10ft to 30ft POI can get very important. ;)

I find I tend to shoot a little higher and right when shooting left handed. That's with iron sights and lasers. Only a couple inches, so I don't worry about it.

Rusty I don't understand what pin you are talking about. Do you mean the little allen set screw is sticking out enough to scratch you?

OK, I see the vertical set screw on my J Frame is a hair above the grip. I can just feel it and it does have a sharp edge.

Do you think you could back out the screw enough to dress down the sharp end with a fine sharpening stone (without scratching the grip with the stone)?

Or maybe back the set screw all the way out and take a little off the inboard end. I'd be a little concerned about cross threading that little screw when I replaced it.

Give Crimson Trace a call and see what they think.

I bought a used set recently for a Defender-sized 1911.

Don't know if the prior owner had them set up for his pistol, or how much difference there is between frames and grip screws, but when I installed it and shot at 21 feet (7 yards), the shots patterned about 3" low and 1" right.

I adjusted it at home using a target at 21', aligned the laser dot to hit where the iron sights were aiming, took it back to the range. (Took about 1/2 turn on the elevation and 1/4 turn on the windage.)

Bingo. POI = POA at 21'. That was easy. :)

Thank you for the tip about tape on the itsy-bitsy Allen wrench.

Came with two and I haven't lost one (yet). That piece of advice may well ensure that I don't.

I have the rubber set on a j frame model 49.
I zeroed them at 50 yards. I use the gun as field carry when wandering the woods on my land. I have popped rabbits and squirrels with it.

I love the setup

Darn, I like those Crimson Trace Laser Grips.

Sunday evening I thought I'd do a little left hand point shooting.
I'm right handed but like to shoot left handed once in a while, especially if my right hand is shaking a little (being 69 sucks).

From 10 yards the S&W 2 inch J Frame did good. Better than I shot right handed.:)

About the tape on the little wrench. If you write on the tape which way to turn to move the bullet strike, it's helpful.
