Don't condemn Cabellas or any gunshop
for the stupid opinions of their employees. They all have them, employees with opinions that is. Their opinions are stupid if they don't conform to yours, and shear brilliance if they do. Say what you will about Cabellas and any other large retailer but remember they are probably the only place that you can reasonably expect to walk into and find 6 different style holsters for your Glock, XD or S&W M&P and 12 different styles for your 1911. Small shops can't afford that kind of overhead and yes, you will pay a little more for the convenience. The last time I was in a Cabellas, I was on the way to a big Cowboy action event at the time, I noticed that I could have have bought not only brass and bullets for 32 H&R Mag, 38-40, and 45 Colt but, loaded ammo as well. I took note of these because that is what we were shooting. Was some of the stuff pricey, sure, but at least it was available! We have a Cabelas coming to our area in the next year or so and I for one can't wait. If their prices are high then it won't hurt the small gunshops. They will have more of a selection and more accessories than most of the shops around because of their size. The fact that they are coming to town has prompted LL Bean to reemphasize their commitment to hunters and fisherman by building a new store. They too are overpriced but, it is nice to see that they are not only concerned with selling clothing.
As for the caliber war that is going on here now as it has forever, enough already. Everybody has their opinion as to which is the best and some even back them up with logic. For me, I look at it this way.
1) Shot placement DOES MATTER, regardless of the caliber you choose. A 9mm in the heart lung area is more efective than a 45 in the shoulder.
2) Caliber: Bigger is probably better when it comes to caliber and is always better when it comes to round capacity. What this means to me is that I prefer the 357 Sig and the 40 S&W over the 9mm. The 357 Sig is the same size bullet as the 9mm but packs a lot more punch. My Glock 23s and and my 32 both hold 14 rounds with one in the chamber in a relatively compact package. The Glock 19 in 9mm is the exact same size and holds two more rounds. I will sacrifice the 2 extra rounds for the more powerful cartridge. By the way, I would not feel undergunned carrying a 9mm because I do feel confident in my ability to accomplish rule 1. My Glock 21 in 45 ACP holds the same number of rounds as my 23/32 but is tad on the large side for comfortable carry. I do not feel that I am losing much if anything by carrying the 40 instead of the 45.
