Kimber Lifeact?

Yeah you can find videos demonstrating several brands of OC spray like Fox Labs, Sabre Red, and Kimber on Youtube. I find it funny when some people picture themselves hosing down 10 bad guys with OC. In reality most assaults have one maybe two aggressors. Most citizens who use OC aren’t using it to bust up crowds. For a while I was not sure if the Kimber Lifeact was a good product because on the video it looks like the guy missed the target. When I bought one I took it out to fire it,. After the test I realized that the video that’s out is not a good depiction of how the kimber product works. The low light conditions and clear gel used in the video does not show you how wide the impact pattern is. If you point the unit slightly to the right or left you will still get OC on the target.

IMO...A person fireing a dogshock could miss a target very easy.

I have done much research into this device in that research have fired 8 at this point....3 were factory devices and 5 were modified devices.

We have also looked into the hydraulic needle effect of the factory loaded device.

IMO-It is a device that needs the end user to put in some practice time and to have Prior Knowledge of its handling characteristics for it to be useful.

Kimber lifeact (aka "Jet Protector", "Dogshock" and "Guardian angel")

5X7 INCH HEAD

10 feet from target...both rounds fired fast from a pocket draw, as if I really had to use it.

Device makes no noise but a very quiet sping noise.

Device works very well as far as function.

Device is designed & made very well

Aims semi-good and it really spits the OC out well.

Interesting device ... IMO, as it uses a "captive piston concept".Same general design as the russian cyanide gas guns and others like AAI QSPR tunnel rat rounds,Russian PSS pistol,etc....

OC blend is HOT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Got a bit in the eyes as always seems to happen when playing with OC items.

IMO..A fair device for use on dogs that chase me on my bike.:D

As far as use on humans well it is still OC and it does have to be aimed ....so IMO Not a real good choice for use on people.

Also,I thought it could maybe be mistaken for a type of firearm and get ya shot.

I found an article review in Law and Order magazine about the kimber products. The product was tested and here are some important facts. Keep in mind that these are certified law enforcement trainers who do testing of LE Products. While this is a review on the Jet Protector JPX, it has the same OC solution as the Guardian Angel. The only difference is with the range and speed of the product. Guardian Angel is 13 feet at 90MPH JPX is 21 Feet at 270 mph.

“With such a tight pattern, an early concern was that the pattern might miss the target and that a missed impact would not have any effect. Not so! The liquid atomizes in the air during the impact and after the impact.

"For a test of cross-contamination we fired live oc rounds at a mannequin and then quickly approached. If there was OC in the air around the subject we would notice it. And we did notice it, big time."

“The droplets were completely absorbed by the paper, yet the air was far too saturated with OC to approach the target for 3 to 5 minutes."

It was like OC recertification, complete with burning skin, tearing eyes, nasal discharge and coughing. And all that was just from approaching too quickly."

"The target subject was totally saturated with the first shot of OC."

"This may seem a little high compared to the average can of OC for $10, but don’t compare apples to oranges. Look at it as two applications of OC"

You can read the entire article on the Pexion website.

FWIW-----I am known for my "testing" skills of some very odd weapons and devices. It can be very easy to miss with a dogshock in fact they tend to shoot high and it also depends on what barrel fires as to where the liquid mass goes.

If the device is fired to close the mass is very tight...think of it as a shotgun. You can miss a target with a shotgun.

The end user should know the limits of the dogshock device....

I am not saying that I disagree with you. In the Law and Order article it also says:

“It will be easy to completely miss the subjects head if the jet protector is not carefully aimed"

I think the Guardian Angel has its place in the personal defense market but like you said people also must know its limitations. I still keep my 8 dollar Sabre Pepper spray with me but the Lifeact is a good option for someone who wants an OC option in a car during the summer months or for someone who wants the extended range.

I think what people need to understand is that OC is not a magic bullet but it has proven itself to be highly effective at incapacitating unarmed attackers. There are several professional reports from the NIJ and US Department of Defense that back up OC as an effective option. Individuals must find the OC option that works for them.

I have read many posts where people say that Pepper spray is worthless and can’t be depended on. Each tool has its advantages and disadvantages. I don’t carry pepper spray and expect it to cause the guy to curl into a fetal position. I carry it as a distraction device to buy me the seconds needed to escape or draw my weapon. The smaller canisters from Sabre, Fox Labs, DPS, Freeze+P, and Punch II will work fine and so will the Lifeact for most people.

FWIW...I like the dogshock..its just another tool in the box .

I think its real beauty is in the fact that it has other uses beyond just a "pepper oil" delivery unit...nuff said.
