Moyock North Carolina but i go to VA a lot also.
Some people say ruger firearms jam a lot. Others say they're the greatest guns they've ever shot. How many jams have you had with your ruger if you have one. I'm considering buying a handgun tomorrow and ruger is on the list of brands i'm considering. Should i scratch them off or underline them?

I'm not really into the new auto. The older 9mm's are what i'm looking at mostly.

Who the HELL says that????? My P90 will NOT jam on any ammo I've tried to feed it that was within max OAL. I've even put an empty case in the mag with live rounds and it fed the empty case!!!! My 1911s had their problems, but not my P guns. I've owned a P95, got a P90 and a P85 right now, flawless, absolutely flawless function. Now, I didn't care much for the trigger on the P95 and the P85s is a little stiff. The P90 is absolute P gun perfection and so accurate it's just plain scary. It ain't for sale.

You might not like the bulk, you might not like the looks, you might not even like the trigger, but P guns work and they're hell for stout just like other Rugers.

One very rarely reads about any Ruger P-series that is unreliable. In fact, they are usually overbuilt for the cartridge, notably the P90 mentioned, which was originally designed for full-power 10mm Auto. Ergonomics (grip shape, trigger reach, control location/operation) does them in for me, or I would have one.

My P-95 has functioned perfectly (not a single malfunction) for many range trips in the nearly 10 years I've had it. I wouldn't hesitate buying another P series Ruger. Rugers have got to be one of the best buys for the money. Mine is totally dependable.

+1 on everything MCgunner said. I have a P89 and a P90 and have had no trouble out of them in the almost three years I've owned them.
Underline them, I say. Two or three times. Ooooh, just a thought...2009 SHOT Show introduction of Ruger P-gun chambered for the 10mm, anyone? One can dream, and with two new 10mm pistols being introduced at SHOT this year, you never know. :D

About the only criticism I've heard from people who have them is that Ruger centerfire autos are blocky and lack a certain amount of grace. Most real owners will tell you they're reliable and strong.

Have the KP94 in 9mm, the p944 in 40 cal, and the KP97 in 45 caliber. Have had exactly one failure/malfunction over the years...ever. That was with 1 45 caliber jhp round in the KP97..hung up on the feed ramp...once. Sooo, in my book...I'd say reliable.

Yep, some people say a lot of things about Rugers. You often find them working or hanging around gun stores and ranges. Don't mean they know $--- about them but they'll give you all the info they've heard from this one or that one that don't know $--- about Rugers either!!:p
Actually although there are exceptions, by and large Rugers are every bit as reliable and most times more so than other guns regardless of price.

My P345 has had a few (2 -- possibly 3) failures to feed and one stovepipe jam, all during one particular day at the range. However, I shoot less than I'd like, and that gun has had probably less than 200 rounds through it in total (most of them after that day), so I refuse to consider it "unreliable." I'd say the minor problems I had were teething problems (or a bad batch of ammo, I guess), and don't expect them to recur any time soon.

Yeah i've heard nothing but good things about reliability as well. If your looking for a P95, i suggest you check out cdnninvestments (unfortunately a member here Fletcher had a link to a scanned copy but as of today they asked him to take it off his webpage). They're going for a mere $250 nib.

Never had a problem with my P90, but I haven't had it very long either.

If they have any with the hogue grips make sure you hold them. IMO, they make a world of difference and makes the P90 feel a lot better in your hand.

Former p89 owner

Wish I hadn't traded it. :banghead:The darn thing ate everything I could cram in the magazines and that included 9's loaded hot enough to bulge the primers. Yes, it was not as slick looking as some of the cool race-guns I saw on the range, but it was very, VERY reliable.
By the way, I'm new here.

I put over 4K rounds through the P89 I owned before I sold it. I had one malfunction. A squib load (Wolf, go figure). Of course that is not a fault of the gun.

I currently own a P90, 97, and 345. Neither has ever malfunctioned.

My P-95 runs great.

I can't remember it ever jamming.
In fact, I had some horrible lead-bullet/wax-lube handloads that just wouldn't feed hardly at all in other 9mm gun's. I fed that stuff to the P-95 like feeding slop to a hog. Gobbled it right up, the same as if it had been prime rib.

I'd be happier if it were a bit more accurate though.

I have a P97DC. It's never malfunctioned. It's reasonably accurate. It will shoot anything from expensive HP's to cheap Blazers and Wolf ammo.

It's the only "plastic pistol" I own.

I have over 10K rounds through my P90. The only malfunctions could be traced back to the ammo.

I want another P90.

I've had my P 90 over 10 years. I feed it reloads, Wolf, any cheapo stuff I can find that says ".45 ACP" on it. The only jamming problems I've ever had were with some gunshow reloads that I bought once. It did turn itself into DAO once. Every time the slide went forward the hammer would fall as if I had applied the decocker. I was shooting every shot double action. I field stripped it, removed the grips, and sprayed the whole thing down with Brake Kleen and haven't had a problem since. It is very reliable and it has a very nice trigger both DA and SA.

I also have an old standard Ruger .22 auto with 4" barrel. I've never cleaned it other than running a patch through the barrel and it has never failed or jammed.

Ditto

Over the past 15 years, I've owned at least 5 P90s, and out of close to 20,000 rounds, I've had ONE (1) unexplained failure to feed. I now own a P345, but still hanker for a P90 to keep.

Had my KP-90 since 2001. Only issue I ever had was with that crappy American Ammo from Miami, FL. Cases are headstamped A-MERC.

I have run some WWII wintage USGI ammo through it, Wolf, Blazer Aluminum, Blazer Brass, Winchester White Box (AKA USA Brand) Remnington Golden Sabres, Rem cheap UMC, Federal, Federal American Eagle...boringly accurate and dependable.

Commercial reloads, too...every one of them went BANG!, and then the empty rattled around on the floor.

I did put the Hogue finger groove grips on it, and have changed the recoil spring...got aobut 6,000 rounds through it.

Ruger was one ofthe very few brands that didn't break on the rental range. Very tough and reliable. Blocky, clumsy feeling, but built like tanks.

Have had a SR9 9mm for several months with 500 rounds through it, the mags are tight but I have had no failures. I like the gun.
