What are the three most reliable wonder nines ever made?

"Out of the ones I have owned, and seen on the rental range I helped run for 1.5 years, I'd say, CZ75, Glock, and Ruger, in order.
Worst was HK USPs....."

Interesting, I didn't expect the USP to be on the bottom of the list.

From the replys so far, it looks like this:
1. Glock 17 or 19
2. SIG 226 or 228
3. BHP

I find that interesting because I have seen all three of these guns jam at times. None were jam-o-matics but none were perfect. I know this is far from a scientific poll because it is biased towards higher production guns. A Star 30M may in fact be the most reliable gun ever made but for every person that owns one of these, there are probably 50-100 Glock 17 owners.

My whole class shot G17's and there was never a failure that was the gun's fault. I have also had a little experience with a cheap BHP knock off that I was selling for a friend, and it never failed while I shot it so the real thing's gotta be top of the line.

Beretta 92fs, Ruger P-95 and S&W 5906

Maybe, Maybe, and NO!

Warning: the following is PURE OPINION

Smith and Wesson makes a fine revolver and good knives. They should have stayed out of the semi auto market(except I hear their 1911 is great)

My choices based on personal experience:

HK or SIG

I've found that in semi auto pistols, the two most reliable are made from these manufacturers.

Never had a hic-up with my 92fs or my 5906TSW. The following is just my opinion but I think Beretta and S&W are the two best auto makers around.

Owned a CZ 75. It never failed in the 3000+ rounds I owned it.

Had a Taurus PT 92. It never failed.

I've never had a Ruger fail, or a Smith and Wesson or, for that matter, a Glock.

I've played with a Berreta, a BHP, and a Tanfoglio; they all choked. As a matter of fact, not only would the Tanfoglio choke, it would, on occasion, and quite unpredictably, go full auto!

A Witness, on the other hand, never gave me any problems.

So, based soley on personal experience, and IMHO, the most reliable 9mms are the CZ 75, Taurus PT 92, Glock 17, S&W 910, and the Ruger P95 (I know, != 3).

Never had any problems with BHP (MK III), CZ-75, HK P7. Even my P-08 Luger has been 100%.

No particular order: Ruger P series, 92 Series (both Beretta and Taurus), and so far Springfield XD series...in my limited experience. Honorable mention to Baby Eagle as well.

I haven't had a huge number of wonder nines in my hands over the years. I tend to opt for the .40 S&W. Of those, my Glock long slide has been good, my CZs have all functioned great, even though they're compact and sub-compact models, my one full size CZ 75 9mm was 100% even with crappy ammo and having only cleaned it when I sold it off. The HK 40C I had for a while was solid.

Looking at adverse conditions the Glock gets a slight nod over the CZs. For me the usability of the CZ puts them over everything else. I can shoot my CZs better than any other equivilant handgun I have owned or have tried. So, if we take reliabily hitting the target into consideration, my CZs win hands down. ;)

YMMV of course.

I believe the original TRUE wonder nine, was the HK VP70. This was the first handgun to incorporate: double action only, polymer frame, and 18 round magazine all in one package. It was ahead of its time. The military version had a stock that doubled as a holster. The attachment of the stock allowed the pistol to fire three round burst.

This gun, due to its fantasy looks, was seen in the movie ALIEN as the side arm of the human troops.

In its time it was the real Wonder Nine.

In my expereince, I'd go /w:
92fs and Glock 19...I'd add the USP & USPc 9 but to me the idea of a wondernine would include the standard capacity mags which as a California resident aren't available :banghead:

In my personal experience it would be:

Ruger P Series
Any 9mm Glock
CZ75B

I'm sure there are many more great 9mms, though.

HK P7M8 (most accurate, advanced, safe, and reliable their is)

Sig 226 (very reliable under was time field conditions and very accurate on single action trigger pull)

Glock 19 (almost as reliable as 2 above, but not as acurate)

I have only operated 2 of the "wunder9's" and both worked flawlessly for me..

A Browning Hi-Power, and a Model 59 S&W.

The BHP was a late 60's vintage, the 59 was a late 70's version.

Walther P88, controls on both sides, 15+1, no safety just a decocker, and very acurate. Mine has shot everything I put in it but Corbons. They do not fit in the chamber, too tight.

Don't forget the P-38. There were a lot of them made and they worked well in some pretty grueling conditions. I have a WWII model that has never failed me as long as I use the FMJ ammo it was designed for.
