Ammo Prices Going Up April 1st?

I remember 1973 WAY too well... when gas jumped over $1 a gallon and I thought it was outrageously expensive at that point in time.

Let's hope these aren't the days we'll praise 10 years from now as the "good ole days" of cheap ammo....

Seems like the answer is to encourage Chinese companies to make ammo for the US civilian market.

Buy as much as you can and use it wisely. Try taking up the .22 LR. Alot of fun, easy on the hearing, etc.

And about the economy...

Not to sound like a liberal tree hugger or something...but millions of kids are starving around the World...try not to whine too much about how poor our economy is. Spend your money wisely and adjust your living standards to whatever your financial situation is at.

When your economy is on the top of the pyramid, it is perfectly normal to complain about it when it slips below that level. The starving kids in "____________" have nothing to do with our economy. They are two different subjects altogether. How the rest of the world lives and how am I going to afford gas to get back and forth to work are not inter-related Mr. Clinton.

My Mom tried to get me to eat brussel sprouts because of all the starving Armenians. Little did I know, there wasn't an Armenia any more! And I won't eat brussel sprouts either. Meaning your remarks are a classic guilt trip

BTW you are DEAD wrong on the 'easy on the hearing' remark. .22 LR is perfectly capable of damaging your hearing every time you pull the trigger. If you think you are safe from hearing damage because it is 'only a .22' then I can tell you are young and have never actually looked into it.

Please let me know how many hungry children you are supporting around the world. I have mouths to feed and feel responsible, commited, able and happy to feed them before anyone else in the world - every day.

Markbo,

The point is being content with what you have. I wasn't trying to make anyone feel guilty. Sorry if I personally offended you.

I think the .22 LR is alot easier on the hearing of those around me and I can barely hear a noise when shooting with hearing protection. Much less noise than say a 5.56 which can be annoyingly loud.

I've donated money and volunteered for charitible missions trips in the past and will continue to do so. So do millions of others so its not a big deal what I do.

Have a nice day and can the respone because I'm done here.

It''s a commodities driven global expansion. All comodities are going up as stocks go lower, gold, oil, tietanium, lead, palladium, wheat corn, well u get it. Blame China and India, as they begin to own cars, and jewlery, use power like air conditioning, heat, gas, etc. this is just the begining. In a few years we won't be able to afford very much at this rate of expansion

Chinese Ammo

Well the way the Chinese have poisoned our food, toys and pet supplies in the last year, I am not sure I'd want to trust them with ammo right now.

You know when we were so concerned about the plight of the third world in middle part of the last century, we sent them those new drugs called antibiotics. It helped them all right. Cut the death rate in half, but the birth rate remained the same. Population grows exponentially. The world cannot sustain the current population. Our last efforts to help those people only made things worse, not better.

I see that bestshot is currently closed but if and when they reopen do you know if they allow you to pick up the ammo instead of having it shipped? I live probably 10-15 min from them and am in need of some decently priced .38spl.

Yeah, can you imagine the horror of finding lead in your ammunition?

If you dig deep into those cases you will find, I believe, a US company trying to maximize its profits and knowing full well what was happening, probably even encouraging their Chinese suppliers to do this in the first place just to save a buck or 2.

So are we going to expect ammo companies to come out with a new projectile for target practice only? I think I have seen Plastic bullets on a show once but I don't know if anyone has come out with it yet, It seems to me that sombody should be able to think up a new material that is cheaper than lead......

I had seen ads for such stuff, plastic wad cutter type projectiles, and an included "loading tool" for primer only actuated revolver ammunition as memory serves. I suppose it would have been suitable for short range paper punching, and the projectiles were REUSABVLE too. Don't know whatever happened to such things, might have simply died on the vine, unattended, unloved.

GlowinPotomac

I just now saw your question about Bestshotammo. To answer, I do not know what their policy is on direct pick-up but that is perhaps the only way I would do business with them. I think they are generally trustworthy but one time (I wrote a thread about this) they had my money and did not send my 1000 rounds. It turned out that finally I got ahold of the owner of the company and he had an office woman going through a divorce and she had everything screwed up. However, I will say he finally sent me a check for a refund and I will say the 1000 rounds fo 45 colt I bought from them earlier is wonderful ammo as far as the shooting I do (range targets outside and plinking behaviors.) I also liked National Bullet Company in Ohio. I bought their 38 Special and like it fine. Hope this helps. I Mastercast is recommended by some members and I have an order in now to Ammodirect in Memphis area. Check out all these web sites. With gas at over $3 the $24 shipping from Memphis to me by Ammodirect does not too bad for 1000 rounds of .44 Special Sorry, I see it is Pontiac, not Potomac.

For those who have YET experianced what happens when a nation prints money 24/7. First prices rise on fuel and materials and the Gov't tells you there is no inflation. Then food goes up 20%+ and all is good. Then prices rise and rise, but what is really happening is the fiat currency is becoming worthless. Soon people start buying everything they can because each day the paper money has less value. $5 a loaf of bread today is $5000.00 next week, and that is no exageration. Hopefully things do not get that bad here, but it sure could.

cornman... you talking about the former USSR or the U.S. because they sure sound the same, don't they?

Would you guys really like to know why ammo is hard to find. A buddy of mine is good friends of a ditributor of weapons and ammo. Well I called this ditributor up and asked if he had any wolf 223 and he said he was backordered for months. I told my friend this and he said no way was that true. So he called the distributor up and asked about wolf 223 and said he heard they were out. The guy told him that he had 10 skids of wolf 223. Now you see, the stores have ammo but are setting on it for the price to go up. If a dealler can buy it for X amount of money, and wait for it to shoot up to $275/1000 He will most likely do it. and by the way this distributor is no small place it's a rather large one

That makes no sense. If the Distributor was waiting for the price increase he is not going to sale to one of us lowly dealers before the increase either.

CU74:

Flocci used to import Berdan Primers. I have no idea concerning the present situation.

Also, a great deal of European made ammunition (Russian) is steel cased. I'm not sure about how successful one might be respecting resizing such cartridge cases.

Also, if memory serves, RCBS, at one time, offered a Berdan Decapping Tool, Decapping can also be done hydraulically , though it's somewhat messy.
