Looks like I will have to move to Harlingen TX in the next couple of months. Anybody know where to go shoot down there. I Google shooting ranges int Harlingen and it looks like I'm pretty screwed. All the ranges are far away and they didn't show range fees and range length . I'm looking for a place to shoot rifles and pistols and perfer the outdoors.

I will really miss my current range so much sense it is cheap, not crowded with idiots, and lacks Range Nazis. Must go there as often as possible for the next several weeks and wish it good bye.:( Sniffle Sniffle

Expand your search, Harlingen is a small town. Expand out to Brownsville southeast, westerly to McAllen or farther, and north a bit as well. Can't go too much farther south due to Mexico being there. Not sure about shooting ranges specifically, but Harlingen is a small town so if there is a shooting range then it might not be publically advertised. Google may not be too much help in this case.

I live in Brownsville, which is 20 miles SE of Harlingen. We've got an indoor range in town. Range time is $11.99 an hour. We shoot IDPA and bowling pins on alternating Thursdays.

I believe there are also indoor ranges in McAllen and Edinburg.

There are also a number of outdoor ranges; pistol, rifle, and shotgun. If you want more info, send me a PM and I'll give you my phone number.

I didn't notice your preference for outdoor ranges. There is a range 20 miles east of Brownsville that has a 300 yard rifle range. You can shoot all day for $10.00. If you take a CHL class from the owner, you can shoot free for a year. There is another range near Pharr that has a rifle range over 600 yards.

Thanks.

This one looks good and is 100 yards longer then my current range. I guess I'll give them a call after I get everything settled down and see what it takes to join (assuming if they're still around). The one you talk about in Pharr is a little far away but for 600 yards it would be worth the drive a few times a year. Allways wondered what my k31 and mosins would do at that range.
The reason I don't like indoor ranges is every one I been into charges by the hour. I like to take my time and injoy myself for a few hours. Can't really get much done in an hour and get the urge to rush.

If anybody know of more please tell.

Seriously, far takes a whole new meaning here in Texas. We measure driving distance in minutes, not miles. So 20 miles turns into 10 minutes up the road.

You'll get used to it. First time I moved to Texas it was from Japan up near Tokyo. I remember it taking FOREVER to get anywhere.

the pharr rifle and pistol club has a range just south of pharr. there are 0-50 yard pistol stations, 100-200 yard rifle stations. it is open 7am-7pm 7 days a week and hosts shooting matches on sundays. the dues are about $43 per year, which includes nra membership for the insurance. it can accomodate about 20-30 shooters if all are polite. i try to go on monday or saturday. it is usually not too busy, even with 700 members, except just before deer season opens. there are no full time range officers and i have never had any unsafe experiences as have been related here in other threads. they do not allow full auto and just banned .50 bmg due to the damage done to the earthen berms by that round (.50 ml and pistol are fine). rules require hearing and eye protection. i like it. to join, come to the meeting held the first tuesday of each month at the Pharr kiwanis club at 7 pm. you never have to go to another meeting if you do no want.

How soon. It may take a while for me to get things settled down to allow time and money to shoot.

I know the story. I used to live in Corpus Christi in the Calallen area and the nearest ranges were the Sharp Shooter and Starry. All were way on the other side of town and you had to go through heavy traffic the whole way and then pay the rediculus range fees.

I am currently in Texas City and have a range 2 miles away and one in Galveston. So I got pretty spoiled the last few years.

I used to live in the McAllen area (Weslaco, Tx) and I was a member the range range in Pharr, Tx. This is a outstanding range and should meet all your range needs. Pharr is about a thirty minute drive from Harlingen. Pharr is right next to McAllen.

20 miles east? Might need a boat. ;)

I'm going to have to bring a plinker next time I'm down that way, didn't know there were this many ranges there.
