I was rotating the ammo stocks this PM and came across the Paki 7.62x51 NATO L2A2 (1980) surplus ammo I bought not even eighteen months ago. The invoice was still on the box from Wideners - 700 rounds for just under $120 + shipping.

<sigh>

Haha, I dusted off a box of S&B .357 from out of my "box 'o' gun stuff" a few weeks ago, still had the price tag from when I bought it nearly 5 years ago.

$12.

I wish I had bought ammo instead of investing in my 401k. I think my return would have been much better.

Ammo, food, gas.

Now, when I drive to the range, I can choose whether I want to eat my sandwich and cookies, or shoot my guns. But I can't do both!

I have 880 rounds of 7.62X54R from the Guide I got for about $80.00 delivered about a year ago...Shoulda bought a truckload against retirement!

9mm under $10? I still find 9mm for $9 for a box of 50. .357 for about $10 per 50.

Of course, I don't shoot handguns to often so I can wait for a good deal.

My dad is sitting on 2000 rds of Port 308 he paid 130 dollars per 1000. He gave me 250 rds of Win 180gr silver tip that he bought on sale at Walmart for 5 dollars a box in 1999 or 2000.

the thing i miss most is the .30-06 AP surplus. nobody wanted AP can't hunt with it. My local shop used to carry 100 rounds for $10, now is $2 each. i can't even remember how many thousands of those i dumped into steel plates at 100 yards.

post #100 no longer FNG

I have 1080 rounds of LC .30 Carbine in bandoliers/stripper clips packed in a green ammo can that I bought for $125.00...can't make myself shoot it. I wonder what it would sell for now if I took it back to the gunshow?

I'm thinking of taking some of my SA 7.62Nato out of storage and selling it to help offset a potential car purchase. :-(

Just thought someone might enjoy these photos.

The Silvertips are a full, virtually pristine box. They were probably bought in the 60's, or early 70's. My dad sent them to me when he gave me his pre '64 Model 70, Featherweight with a knock-off (hinged) K-4 Weaver, which is still sub MOA.

Further evidence that they don't make 'em like they used to.

I have an old box of 19 (same vintage) Core-Lokt, round nose, as well ($4.59), but I can't get the photo small enough to post............tog
