This is my one & only HP. Can I get in the club with this?

My most used Hi-Power right after I got it back from Wickmann.... At the time I sent it in for work, it had about 6,000 rounds of 9mm through it. According to my log book, it now has 27,392 rounds of 9mm through it (most of it CCI Blazer 115gr 9mm).

The first part I broke was the KKM Match barrel (at 7,102 rounds after custom work) - sheared the lug underneath the barrel right off. Next was the recoil spring guide at ~10,400rds post-custom. Next was the firing pin retaining plate (around 11k post custom). The ejector broke around 14k post-custom. Somewhere in there (can't find it in the log book), the slide stop cracked. That was how I discovered that FN had a new slide stop design on their post-2001 Hi-Powers (making me think I wasn't the first person to experience that). Finally, the right grip screw snapped in half at around 19k post-custom.

Suprisingly enough, when I replaced the broken KKM barrel with the stock Browning barrel, the stock barrel shot just as well - and this was after I had left the stock barrel sitting on a shelf in the garage for two years - resulting in rust spots on the exterior of the barrel as well as light pitting of the rifling.

Add me to the club. I got my Charles Daly HP from CDNN a few weeks ago. Shot it for the first time yesterday. I love it. Now to get used to the XS Sights Express Sights.

Are all three of your HP's that you show in the picture 9mm? Just wondering since I am wanting to pick up another HP and thinking of 40 instead of another 9mm....

That seems like a LOT of broken stuff... especially considering that the gun had been looked at and worked over by a top smith.

Well, I wasn't very cheerful about any of it; but since the pistol was at 13,102 rounds before the first part broke, I don't have any other pistols with comparable round counts to decide whether that is acceptable or not. I'd be happy to blame the smith; but if there is a smith out there who can forsee a part breaking 7k rounds later, I don't know who it would be.

One thing that I have speculated about is that I had the pistol done with a Roguard/NP3 coating. All of the parts that broke were from the same batch of NP3 coated parts. Now I only had internal parts NP3 coated, so all of those parts were going to see wear anyway and were more likely to break to begin with. In addition some (like the slide stop) clearly had enough problems elsewhere that FN redesigned the part. Still, part of me wonders if something in that particular batch of NP3 parts didn't make them a little more brittle than they otherwise might have been.

I guess when I get to 34k rounds, I'll have a better idea (the point at which some of the non-NP3 replacement parts have the same round count as parts that broke).

Count me in! I have a two Blued Standards in 9mm, one MKIII with the black epoxy finish in 9mm and one Practical in .40S&W.

It's a Charles Daly Hi-Power but in my findings with the serial number, it's 1 of 500 assembled and fitted by Dan Wesson.

Here is my latest, a factory matte hard chrome with a few black accents.

yea Im a little late and opening up an old thread but I had to join the club. Its an FM High Power 9mm

Man those are nice...all of them so far....BTW what does the price normally run for 9mm and .40 cal?

I have two Single Action Autoloading Pistols for daily off duty concealed carry. One is a 1911. The other is a 2004 Browning Hi Power Practical, .40 S&W caliber.

Add me as well please. I've had a FEG HP for about 10 years. The only mods i made were pulling the mag safety, and changing out the cheapo black plastic grips for Houge's. Never had as much as a hic-up including one gun fight. I just bought an Arcus 98DA, and I'll make a range trip and post pics in the next week.
