I love my sig 220, but I want a higher-cap pistol for fun and field.

What are my options? I'm aware of....

paraordance warthawg?
Xd-45
taurus PT145
two different glock models..
smith and wesson m&p 45

any others I'm missing?

I also imagine we are all tired of these types of threads. If you are, please see my next post.....

CZ 97
Witness
Witness Elite Match
Rock Island has a double stack
I think STI makes a couple

USP .45 holds 10 to 12 rounds and will be a good counterpart to your SIG. Probably the two most reliable .45's on the market today. I found my USP 45 for around 550, look hard enough and youll find one for not much more than Glock/XD/MP prices...

I've heard good things about the FN, supposedly really underrated for a really well built and good functioning gun.

I'd completely forgotten HK. Don't see much of them in these parts, tend to have a street price too high for us poor folk. I'll have to look at them.

Has any one fondled one of the RIA double stacks? I've seen them for sale in some of the rags but.. never in person.

seems like kimber had a double stack

Kimber had something like this a few years back. I don't know if they partnered with BUL or what...

Someone smarter than me can get it exact.

BUL M5, imported by Charles Daly holds 15 rounds and sells for about $500. I've shot a number of them and all were reliable and very accurate. If I could find one with a stainless slide I'd buy it on the spot.

The nice thing about USP's is they've been around long enough that you can find used ones very reasonable. I picked up one for $525. The same store had one that looked like it hadn't been shot more than a dozen times for $580. Saw one that looked NIB at a gunshow this week for $600. With it's recoil reduction system, our USP is our most pleasant gun to shoot....my kids always want to shoot it first when we go to the range. It is also extremely accurate.

The Bul pistol is an interesting gun, in that you get a polymer 1911 with double stacked mags for much less than an STI. I have had several, and found them one of the most comfortable double stacked 1911s to carry given their grip width is not much greater than a single stacked 1911 with wood grips. Despite the low weight, they soak up recoil like other polymer framed guns. I would say that two of mine needed some tuning by my gunsmith to be 100% reliable, but then I can say that for many 1911s. If I came across a really good deal on a Commander length one, I likely would grab it. I am hoping that Charles Daly will be bringing in the 9mm model before any new ban hits us.

In addition to the above:

SVI
Kimber Ten II ( could find it on there site directly, but Google linked to the page.)
Wilson KZ

A cheaper alternative to a Kimber, STI, or Wilson double stack 1911 is the Springfield Armory double stack 1911. It's basically a black parkerized G.I. model with a 12 round capacity. Deadly accurate guns, and can be had used for about $500.

Glock 21 / Glock 21sf
XD 45 / XD 45c
S&W M&P 45
Kimber
STI - would be my choice if I had the moola for it.
HK
CZ
FN
EAA make anything??

You are kind of right...

The frame is identical to Para's P13 series of double stacks. Even the mags are identical.

This means you get 13+1 shots in .45acp.

If you want a bare bones double stack that you can modify to your liking it is a good place to start.

I don't own one, but I am thinking about it.

I would recommend the Wilson KZ45 as a 10+1 double stack. I have put over 5000 rounds without any FTF/FTE/magazine problems. It has survived weeklong pistol training courses.

I have owned a Para P13 for over 10 years. I would not recommend it for SD. The main problem is the magazine. The springs fail very quickly (even Wolff +5%) and you need to be pretty religious about replacing the springs every 1000 round or so otherwise you will experience serious FTF/FTE issues. I would believe this to be true for the Para P-14 pistols.
Also recall that the FBI tried issuing a few hundred Para P-14 frames with Les Baer slides. But even after extensive rework, Les Baer nor the FBI could ever get past magazine feeding issues so they recalled these from the field.

Kimber, Charles Daly, Bul M5 - all made from Bul in Israel, and very VERY dependable.....I have a Commander size I could NEVER sell.....looking for a full-size...
