Do you like Japanese cartoons with realistic guns shown?

I mean modern military weapons we are all familiar with - I think it's cool to see a PS90, or FAL, or a BHP in a cartoon.

There's an anime (japanese cartoon) that i remember watching showing a guy to learn how to shoot a handgun that was realistic. There's a couple that's kinda fun to watch.
Simply stated sure if they don't go over the top.

Gunsmith Cats comes to mind, one I would love to actually see, instead of just a few screenshots.
Japanimation can be a trip - ever see Tank Police?

Gunsmith Cats is really good about it. www.veoh.com has them, and if you register they are working on a web player that plays the full clip instead of having to use their program, VeohTV. They have all the episodes, though the hard part is finding the right language.

Oh, I must say, Black Lagoon is possibly the best. It's licensed in America, so I can't tell you where to get it other than to buy it now.

Another one that does pretty well is the Full Metal Panic series of animes. Fumoffu is more about comedy, but ALL of the series tried to stay pretty correct.

Monster?

And yes.

I like Togusa's weapon from Ghost In The Shell, a Mateba Autorevolver. I seem to remember an episode where they were criticizing his choice in an "outdated" style of firearm.

Cowboy Bebop was about the only one I think I really enjoyed in terms of modern weapons. I really can't remember many others I am not a big anime fan.

I found the depiction of firearms in the series, "Gunslinger Girl", to be very realistic. It's a real good series, but a tad melancholic.

I'm a huge Anime fan, and a big fan of guns (obviously). The two can go hand in hand. As far as realism goes, my personal favorite is Cowboy Bebop, and you can tell they really spent alot of time doing their research to capture the details. Actually, I've been trying to track down a reasonably priced IMI Jericho 941 (not the Baby Eagle version, the original one) just because of that show. I guess I've always wanted to have Spyke Speigel's gun. Hahaha, yes I can be a nerd. Gunsmith Cats was also mentioned here, and it was pretty good too.

Even though it wasn't realistic (as in, it was a fantasy revolver, and a futuristic storyline), Trigun was also very good, and had a very nice story line. The main character was a phenomenal shot with his stainless steel revolver (which looked an awful lot like a Mateba), but he absolutely hated killing anyone, so there were alot of cool scenes where he'd get into massive gunfights and still choose to shoot guns out of people's hands and stuff like that. The show itself was kinda like a spaghetti western, based in the future. I'm telling you, once you get past the "it's animated" aspect of it, there's alot of very good and very serious stories geared towards adults to be found in Japanese Animation. It's not all Pokemon ya know!

Full Metal Panic and Fumoffu had (for the most part) excellent trigger discipline, gun handling, and pretty accurate technical specs (aside from the fictional arm slaves, that is).

The first episode of Fumoffu where he shoots the arcade game with his Glock is hilarious. :D

"Who in the hell would shoot a real gun into a video game screen?!?"

"I ran out of ammo."

"I told you, to reload, all you have to do is point the gun outside the screen and pull the trigger!"

"That's not safe. What if the gun should go off?"

Trigun was also very good, and had a very nice story line. The main character was a phenomenal shot with his stainless steel revolver (which looked an awful lot like a Mateba)

For good reason. It was modeled partially after the Model 6.

Let's see...

Full Metal Panic (all 3 of them)
Gasaraki
Black Lagoon
Cowboy Bebop
Gungrave
Noir
Madlax

.....That's all I have at the moment. Does that qualify as 'like'? :D

...Hasn't been a good cartoon made after the PTA made 'em stop showing a puff of dust when Wile E Coyote hit the bottom of the canyon...

"Crying Freeman" is pretty good for that stuff, including Beretta 93R machinepistols. The soundtrack is also pretty good, including music by Patrick O'Hearn.

I always liked Cowboy Bebop.

Me too. I think watching it in japanese is worthwhile, if you can tolerate reading your shows, because the translations seem to be funnier and the voice acting (despite my lack of understanding) better in the japanese versions.

I always liked the movie Jin-Roh: Wolf Brigade. Awesome retro-futuristic, mostly retro movie.

I love the Ghost in the Shell TV series for a lot of reasons, one of which is the depiction of firearms. The show is set 20-30 years in the future so there are a lot of nicely detailed real-world guns in the show (AK47, FAL, AR15, P90, etc) and there are also many futuristic weapons which seem like logical extensions of current trends in weaponry.

My favorite gun moment is when the team runs up against a prototype powered armor which shrugs off their weapons, so they drag a huge antiaircraft gun out of the armory and blast it at close range. Classic brute force old tech against refined new tech.

I like Togusa's weapon from Ghost In The Shell, a Mateba Autorevolver.

Yeah, it was a great character development choice to have Togusa carry an outdated revolver. It really tells you a lot about who he is and it looks awesome in close-up!

I liked Bebop, GITS, and Jin Roh for "realistic" firearms stuff.

I liked Trigun in particular for its much less realistic, but really fun usage of firearms in a sci-fi context (Wolfwood's cross, in particular)

Gunslinger Girls was a too fetish-y for me... it was just an excuse to pair lolitas with firearms plus a ton of violence, and not very much story. Then again, compared to Strike Witches, which is borderline hentai, it's pretty tame in terms of it's risque-ness. That show makes me downright uncomfortable. The Japanese seem just fascinated with lolis and guns... I wonder why...

+1 for Cowboy Bebop. Faye's Glock, Jet's P99, and Spike's Jericho (he also carried a Ruger P89 and Beretta in some episodes. Check out the episode where he goes to avenge his friend from his syndicate days).

My wife grew up watching Lupin III. Lupin has a Walther P-38. She also likes City Hunter (which has some very well-detailed weapons...Ryo Saeba carries a Colt Python).

They've both already been mentioned, but +1 to Noir and Gunslinger Girl. There's a LOT of gunplay in the latter.. one of the first scenes in the series has one of the little girls wasting a bunch of criminals with a P90.

I've never been into anime, although I loved Ghost in the Shell while I watched it... and I will never forget that particular scene - it was FREAKING AWESOME. :) One of the most memorable television moments for me :)
