Heard a rumor today about Magpul Masada / Rem ACR

[sarcasm]My uncle, on my dads side, whose family are all in the even more specialer forces unit of the special forces, said that his team, who infiltrated magpul, bushmaster, and remington, were informing him that the ACR was an effort by Obama and his administration to keep civilians waiting and saving their money for a rifle that would never be sold, just to slow down the gun buying frenzy that obama predicted would happen when he got elected.

It's true I swear. So that means if it's over with then obama must be satisfied.[/sarcasm]

Until they're available for purchase, they're vaporware as far as I'm concerned. I wouldn't keep money aside to buy one at this point, not unless your gun cabinet is already well stocked.

That said, I did hear from a guy that dogs can't look up, I believe him, why would he make it up?

Just using some common sense here. We'll soon have an extremely anti-gun president and VP. We'll also have extremely anti-gun house and senate leadership and they both have strong majorities on their side. In the senate for all practical purposes they are filibuster proof. Now why would Remington choose to tool up and produce a rifle which may never even have a chance to roll off the line? The only reason I can see that they would pursue it would be if they thought they could get some military sales out of it. Otherwise it doesn't make any financial sense.

Remington owns bushy, IIRC. Bushmaster then owns Cobb....ect.

If what your source says is true, I'd speculate that this is a money issue. Either that or there are agreement issues between companies that eventually has halted progress.

Or.....at the least.....maybe they have realized that given its projected MSRP, the rifle wouldn't sell enough to recover money spent on R&D, tooling, and production in a certain amount of time, due to other rifles of the same class already filling the market niche (xcr, sig556, numerous ar15's and piston variants, etc,).

I think this thread is the same info as the other current ACR/Masada thread -- Cerberus has decided to focus on getting the ACR put together for submission to the pending army review of competing designs to the M4 after the current Colt contract runs out.

On the other hand though, I certaintly hope it's not scrapped. I'd be interested in maybe trying one out.

But on RKBA issues, do we have any Pro-RBKA dems that perhaps can offset them?

While in the House, MS has a VERY pro-RKBA Democrat named Gene Taylor. Anybody know of any in the Senate?

There are probably half a dozen or more dems that would vote with the Republicans in the event of any major gun legislation, but I seriously doubt they would ever break with their party to support a Republican filibuster.
