I realize that it may be hard to answer this, but if you can, which would have more felt recoil: a 9mm with 124 gr. with 1109 fps and 339 ft. lbs. OR a 9mm with 115 gr. with 1135 fps and 330 ft. lbs. ?

Thanks

More momentum means more recoil...

124gr x 1109fps = 137,516 gr/f/s
115gr x 1135fps = 130,525 gr/f/s

So the 124gr bullets have 5.1% more recoil. In other words...negligible. Now, shooting 147gr bullets made a difference in my hands, though.

so how about reloads, same weight bullet, but using one powder with a quicker pressure spike compared to one with a slower pressure spike, but both peak at the same pressure?

The recoil calucator at Handloads.com Marcus L. posted the link too, takes into acount the powder charge in grains.

You use more slow powder, less fast powder, so it will do the math for you.

Actual recoil and felt recoil are two different critters. The former in general is important to rifle shooters while the latter more important to handgunners.

Felt recoil varies based on the weight of the gun, the round being shot (it's weight and velocity), the type of weapon being shot (semi, versus da revolver, versus s.a. wheelgun or single shot), the shape of the grips and type of grip material as well as the shooters tolerance for recoil.

So recoil calculations on actual recoil tell only a part of the story. To know you have to shoot.

As a general rule of thumb, "power factors" being equal, the lighter bullet will have a snappier or faster recoil impulse while the slower bullet will have more of a push. For a "soft load" a heavy bullet over the fastest practical powder is the ticket.

Agent-J, please reduce the size of your pictures.
The 124 grain bullet will have more felt recoil due to physics, but not enough to worry about. Cast 115's and 124's are fairly pleasant to shoot, depending on the load. As daft as it sounds, a cast 230 grain .45 ACP target load is more pleasant to shoot than either.
