Can only have 3 guns

Please carefully read my .02 USD

Sir, while you do not 'need' 20 or 30 guns, it is always better to have more guns!

Alright. Maybe your wife is holding your balls.

You do though, NEED, MUST HAVE AT ALL COSTS

1) A moderate-power semi-auto rifle or large carbine such as M4 (or automatic :D , if you can jump though the holes, and give up some rights, and spend a buttload of money) to:
-stop multiple armed threats at medium range quickly
-TSHTF

2) an Semi auto or pump shotgun, preferably of the common 12ga, 2 & 3/4 inches or more, to:
-Normal home defense
-Hunting winged fauna

3)Powerful Handgun, preferably semi-auto, in a round greater than or equal to .38 special (I recommend the 5.7x28mm, because its energy is equivalent of that to of .45ACP or +P 9mm Para and that you can stick 20 rounds into its magazine! 20 rounds of .45 ACP equivalents?!?!) to:
-Protect yourself from common criminals, etc
-Other legal CCW uses?

4) High-power, high accuracy rifle, preferably bolt-action, of something like .308 Win. To:
-Kill animals to feed your family, especially if TSHTF. I am not a hunter, you may want to ask around on tips.
-If TSHTF, you can use it to... well...

5) A .22lr gun, reliable beyond question. Must be built like a mountain, or merely indestructible. Why?
-So you can buy a quarter-million rounds of this for a a mere $5,000 USD (something like that)
-Then you can ensure you are able to keep practicing, and your children can keep practicing, and if you stretch it out, your grandkids can keep practicing... by then, if civilization hasn't rebuilt, well...

I could argue for at least another small carbine, of the PDW type, and a backup pistol, but then I'd get carried away and say you have to have a second gun of each type and then parts to fix them half a dozen times over...

EDIT: News! Apparently, if you are willing to have a slightly longer magazine, like, 1 and 3/4 inches sticking out, you can stick in 30 rounds of .45 ACP equivalents! In a pistol!

I think I blew a fuse trying to answer this question, because I can't seem to type in my choices. My brain apparently doesn't recognize the phrase "only three guns":uhoh: I think if my significant other told me I had to pick only three I would just stare at her blankly, like when someone speaks to you in a foreign language that you don't understand.

Any shotgun in 12ga. if I could only have ONE.
A revolver in 357
A rifle in 270 or '06.
Your wife will always be more important than ANY other thing in the world.
Losing one makes you think this......

Gosh I went for years and years without any guns so I am not in the the "find a better half" camp. I too have had to sell guns (among other things) to pay bills and such over the years and it can be like 9 kinds of suck in an 8 suck bag, but I would do it again.

I curently have a room full of long gun and a handfull of handguns (yes, silly pun intended) but if I could keep only my beretta bocat in my pocket, I would do that without much worry.
If it had to go too, then I would let it go.

Too many other important things in MY life anyway, like which hotrods to get rid of lol.

Sammy

WHOA... 5.7X28mm has is the equilivent of a .45 or 9mm +P!!!! are you shure? it seems to me more along the lines or a .22 magnum as far as bullet weight and velocity goes...

i would tell her that you need an even number of guns, that way you could keep the 3 you have picked out, and get a ruger 10/22 or the like.

because having 3 guns would be like having 3 tires on your truck, it just doesent work, you gotta have 4!!!

Only been married a few years and I found myself in the same dilemma. Unfortunately the request was for everything to go. She didn't talk to me for a week after I told her "not happening" :rolleyes:but she eventually got over it and now it’s just something that we don’t discuss anymore. I did however buy a much heavier safe that houses just about everything, and keep it locked regularly. I think this made her feel much better. Might want to try bargaining. And hey with kids one gun is just as dangerous as 50.;)

I think the guys that say uniformly guns are more important than the wife need to set back and think a bit. I'd guess alot of these guys are currently single.

A gun collection costs less to maintain than a wife. And unlike a wife, it gains value as it ages, and you feel regret when you dispose of it.:evil::evil:

Then again... maybe this trio

Sounds like it is time to keep all of your guns, trade the wife, and allow yourself only three women in the house at a time.

PTR91 w/ the 22 lr. kit.
Remington 870 w/ a couple different barrels.
HK P7

It's almost cheating, what with the 2 rifles in one.

Good think I am not married. To the OC, I'd ditch the woman and find one more supportive of what I wanted. Yep.

i would keep a .30-06 Sprg, a 12ga, and a .22LR, a very sensible battery, and all that is truly necessary, there is nothing on this contenent that those 3 cartridges wolnt take down.

Glock 17
Rem 870 12ga
Tikka 30-06 scoped

Pistol is for defense/carry/IDPA
Shotgun for turkeys/pheasant/clays
Rifle for Deer

As primarily a sport shooter, if limited to three, it would have to be:

Mossberg 500 12 gauge with a vent rib barrel with removable chokes and a rifled slug barrel with cantilevered scope mount and fixed 4X scope. I'd concede the 18.5" cylinder slug barrel if I had to, but would prefer to have it as well. Would serve for all sorts of hunting as well as home defense.

Remington 541T in .22LR for all the reasons others have suggested a .22 is a "must have," and the Remington is a classic, as well as being the one I have.

Ruger GP100 in .357 with 4-inch barrel and adjustable sights. Again, good for just about everything, and (IMHO) the one handgun to have if you're only having one. If you're talking three long guns, I'd replace the Ruger with a Remington 700 in .30-06.

These are NOT my "favorite" guns by any means. But together they make up a well-rounded set with which one can do just about everything except engage targets "way out there."

Glock 23
Scoped M1A
Remington 870

If or when I had to leave or drop weapons for whatever reasons, the first to go would be the shotty, then the pistol and I'd keep the M1A for last.

Truth be told, I own considerably more than three firearms, and I’m okay with that. But actually we’d all be better off limiting ourselves to three guns (which I understand is a legal restriction in many countries).

We’d choose more carefully, and invest in higher grade firearms rather than lots of low-quality junk (cf.
Warren Buffet's suggestion that investors would reap higher rewards if they were subject to a lifetime limit of only 20 stocks). And we wouldn’t accumulate so much ‘stuff’ that tends to become a burden.

Here are my choices:

(1) .22 bolt-action rifle
(2) .30-06 bolt action rifle
(3) 12-gauge o/u shotgun with interchangeable chokes

Boring? Yes. But with such a modest battery, a person is equipped for all shooting needs in North America.

There’s no need for a handgun, but if a fourth gun is allowed I’d add a S&W K-22 or alternatively a High Standard Victor, just for fun.

She'll come around. Or she can go elsewhere. I sold some of my guns for my wife, but WITHOUT HER KNOWLEDGE. I used the funds to put her through school. Get a safe. Don't tell her the combo, get her under control. Tell her she can have three pairs of shoes, three handbags, whatever. Tell her to piss off, and get a good woman.
Steve

Reid I would have to disagree with you. I don't own anything that I consider junk. Otherwise I would have sold them a long time ago. I have lots of rifles mostly customs that range into the multi thousands of dollars. If you asked me to pick just one I couldn’t do it. And I think anyone especially the damn government should be able to tell me how many guns I can own.:fire:

Glock 17
Tactical Shotgun
AR-15

Ummmm.....I need a handgun. Course I live in the city. Where there is violence. And Murder. And car-jackings. And home invasions. And robbery. And street gangs. Just me though.
