Only carry 3 rounds in your carry gun?

I don't see the kind of person putting you in 3 3 3 situation being the same person to pick your gun up and care if it's loaded right now or not. Generally those situations are muggings not active shootings.

that's retarded, it's like saying only fill your gas tank to 1/4th because 90% of your driving trips can be accomplished with that amount of gas.

On another forum, I was having a discussion with someone about concealed carry, and he actually told me that based on his trainer's advice, who he said was a Special Ops person, he only carries 3 rounds in his Glock. The reasoning that he said his trainer gave him was that almost any encounter you have will be over in 3 rounds. If it isn't, then you're dead anyway and it's best to not leave a fully loaded gun behind for the bad guy to get ahold of and use to kill more people.

This is almost certainly the dumbest piece of advice I've ever seen on this forum. And, like most ridiculously dumb pieces of advice, it supposedly came from a Spec Ops guy. Whatever. That's ridiculous.

That has to be one of the most moronic things I have ever heard in my life.

I believe the trainer is in for a great big "Special Oops" if he only carries 3 rounds while on duty.

Somebody better advise the police dept`s around the U.S. and others.....
to check their weapons to make sure there are only 3 rounds on board. :)

:scrutiny: Seems to me that this kind of silliness behooves us to keep in mind that this country's most rapidly expanding demographic segment appears to be that group of people, perhaps, best described as Morons.

Sadly, in today's America, for every self professed Special Operator, there are two others who take in every word they say as gospel.

I'll rank this ahead of racking a shotgun and needing low penetration ammo.

I have heard dumber. A dicks gun counter guy told me a 20 Guage slug gun was no good for deer as it only has 20 juels of energy. And I have one freind who keeps his only pistol a 9mm xd, his bed side gun as he doesn't carry half loaded as to not wear out the magazine spring for resale value.

My dad thinks every gun should be limited to 3 rounds. His reasoning? Because waterfowl hunting shotguns are limited to 3 rounds. But then he also thinks ARs and AKs should be banned " Because they attract the wrong kind of people."

Well....a 20 gauge slug does actually have 20J of energy.....of course you'd have to be shooting at a deer 1300yds away......so technically he wasn't incorrect

Sounds like some awful movie logic. First mass shootings where someone is just indiscriminately killing unarmed people are very rare and would not be the most likely event you would use a gun for self defense by a long shot. Even in such events the person is probably not going to pick up random guns.

Now I am a big proponent of carrying what you are comfortable with and if that happens to be a 2 shot derringer then so be it, in most situations you will probably not even fire it and if you do you will probably use a low single digit of rounds. But if your carry gun is a glock with an extended magazine then there is no reason not to have it fully loaded.

I slept at the Holiday Inn last night so I am well qualified to answer the O.P.’s post.

An Average is calculated by dividing the sum of the values in the set by their number. So some of the values will be higher and some will be lower than the mean number.

For example; If 12 shooters fire 6 rounds and 12 shooters fire 1 round each then the average mean number is 3.5 rounds (12 x 6 + 12 x 1 = 84. 84 divided by 24 = 3.5).

In this simple example notice that to arrive at the sum of 3.5 rounds none of the shooters fired 3 rounds. They all either fired 1 round or 6 rounds. Since your Internet buddy does not believe in carrying 6 rounds then he is carrying 2 rounds too many according to the sample.

In other words Barney Fife was right by only carrying one round.

The Internet can be a great source of information. I will admit that I am upset that I did not know until now that if I put a spent 45 case under my pillow before going to bed the brass fairy will leave me a quarter. If I had known this years sooner I would have a lot of quarters.

Just make sure that you don't accidentally put a steel or aluminum 45 case under your pillow. If you do that, the brass fairy goes through your wallet and takes any cash he finds there. And then he makes your profile pic on facebook a selfie of him wearing a poorly-fitting man-kini. :barf:

Reminds me of the episode of Police Story (NBC 1973-1977) in which the old salt advised the rookie to carry 4 rounds in his service revolver.
Of course you never carry one under the hammer, it would go off if you dropped it.
And you shouldn't carry one in the next chamber so that if a perp grabbed your gun, it wouldn't go off and you would have time to draw your ankle gun. You would, of course, know to skip that chamber and four rounds would be enough.

Same show in which the cop setting out on a bank stakeout was given a "Hotload" by his buddy. One single .38 JHP. Sure enough, that bank was the next one held up and the Hotload blew a perp clear across the lobby. But the shooter and his buddy were sternly admonished for using nonstandard ammunition.

Met one who thought one shot was okay.

In 1994, a friend of old relatives of mine in L.A,

3 tours in Vietnam, retired LAPD, he had a habit of jogging around midnight in parks at the edge of the s.f valley.

He carried a scandium frame 38 (S&W?) in an ankle holster.
With only one round.

No talk. He showed me that.
