124 gr +p Speer Gold Dots for all my 9mm's

Effective bullets are ones that stop a BG. Bullets become effective when you spend a lot of time practicing bullet placement.

While Speer GDs are known for reliable expansion, the same bullet doesn't always affect different people the same way.

You are looking at it all wrong if you believe there is some formula to handgun self-defense.

I use 115gr Speer Gold Dots in my Glock 19's and Kahr PM9 and have no worries doing so. Will it work? I sure hope so, but I also hope I never have to find out. I do know they're accurate for me, and they're quality.

I use the 124 +p LE gold dots. They are accurate and I can place them where I want. My only 9mm is a kahr mk9.

I think it's as good a round as any 9 mm.

Gold Dots, Golden Sabers, and HSTs are at the top of my list for carry ammo.

One of the most locally available loads for my 9mm CZ's is the Hornady 115gr XTP. My dealer has a few cases on hand and a box of 50 only goes for $18.10. The only 124gr he has is the 25 count Remington Golden Sabre and it is higher than the 50 count Hornady. The Hornady is a non +P load and it shoots the same POI as WWB 115 FMJ target loads that I use for practice.

I keep some Winchester 147gr SXT on hand for the cold winter months.

You need to verify it works in all your guns.

Find a bullet that is

1. Reliable (pretty easy with most quality pistols)

2. Most accurate

Looking at #2 you might find 7 different 9mm rounds that are most accurate in your 7 guns.

I found my Glocks like WW Silvertips and my Berettas, Taurus, and S&Ws like any 147 gr bullet.

There is no one answer to "the best" round for anything other than someone falls for the manufacturers hype.

I don't care for +P or +P+ as you really don't gain a lot. My attitude is if you feel you need a +P or +P+ in a 9mm get a 357 SIG or 357 magnum revolver.

Federal HST's are the current king of the hill SD ammunition. HST's offer the best all around expansion, penetration, weight retention and jacket adhesion.

the Speer 124 gr. GD JHP +P is excellent, but
I prefer the Double Tap 147 gr. w/Speer GD JHPs
rated at 1135 fps in my CZ 75B with the 1 in 9.7"
twist rate - shoots very accrately and less muzzle
flash than the 124 gr.

I use Buffalo Boar 124gr Gold Dot at +P+ pressures.1300 FPS is supper fast.

Among others, that is a fine load.

I like Federal HST, but Gold Dots are good.

Don't buy into the hype. If it feeds well...functions well...and you can fire it accurately out of your personal side arm, any of the modern, in any grain configuration, 9mm hollow points work well.

I have not found a 9mm round that doesn't work in my Glock...and at self defense range...I can put them all in the right area.

There is no magic bullet. The point of impact and your accuracy is what counts.

That's a negative. Based on the Wound Ballistics you posted, the Gold Dots are still the king for jacket adhesion, as they are bonded, unlike the HSTs. Gold Dots are the most reliable through all barriers and situations.

Wish I had bought a bunch of the 124 gr +p GDHP's before all the ammo frenzie. It's next to impossible to find locally in anything but expensive 20 rd boxes.

Well I suppose that we could just read the results of twelve LE agency tests that show the HST as superior to the latest and greatest LE ammunition available today. The lack of bonding only seems to affect the HST on rare occasions when penetrating auto glass. In every way the HST is the top performer, and gives the HST shooter a distinct wound channel shredding capability.

Given that HST is becoming far too popular in the civilian market and causing price & availability havoc, I'd prefer to have people buy the Gold Dots.

No more evangelizing HST's from me. Please buy Gold Dots, Ranger T's and Golden Saber folks, they are all as good as the next.

A qualified yes. Be sure the extra velocity and relatively large HP cavity function in all your handguns. The best load in the world is useless stuck on a feed ramp.

Actually, my t-series Browning Hi Power is loaded with the STANDARD PRESSURE 124gr Gold Dot. It's too old for the +p version, but I am not at all concerned about that. Gold Dot bullets are good to go. But if something better comes along in std press, I'll look at it. Modern hollow points have changed things so much!

This might be the wrong place, But I am almost out of my 124+p LE gold dots. I saw some on gunsamerica or something and they were not +p. But my main question was, They are cheap, and I was wondering if the rounds that were recalled in 2002 were still out there?? Because I do not want to take a chance

I really like the Gold Dots performance after they hit a target. The only reason I don't use them often is because they have some of the poorest accuracy results out of my guns. My groups are bigger with GD's than with anything else. That being said, I think they are accurate enough for self defense so I voted yes... good stuff. My gun is full of Golden Saber 124g +P as it is more accurate IMO, but I would gladly carry GD's if needed.
