I have a standard m1A and love it just the way it is, :)

Not saying yours are not great.

No such thing as a bad M1A!

Very nice!

I have one of my MK14s in the same SAGE EBR stock that your Scout is in.

What does all that weigh? the sage kit, with the m1a/m14 and 20rd loaded mag? It looks heavy...

It looks heavy...

My MK14 weighs in @ just under 11.0 pounds with the mag and suppressor removed. It's not heavy...

Well, it's not all that heavy if you consider what it is and compare it to other rifles in its class. But if you're a little anemic and generally find yourself carrying a 7 pound poodle shooter, the idea of packing around a rifle that weighs 11+ pounds doesn't sound as good.

Me, I'll take an 11 pound 7.62mm battle rifle over any 5.56 on the market, so I consider the weight to be trivial, but I can see how it could be an issue for some.

By the time you put optics, maybe a white light, and a loaded 20 round magazine in it, you're looking at what, like 15 pounds? That is about as much as the SAW I carried...

Gotta say there was plenty of times I didn't feel like humping a 15 pound rifle then, and now.

How much did that Sage system cost? I love the idea of the rails to mount a scope and other fun things much more easily.

In my case, the Micro T-1, LaRue mount and SureFire Scout light are included in the sub 11 lbs. of weight.
Only the mag, ammo and sound suppressor are excluded from the total weight.

$700.00 and up at Clyde Armory

They are your rifles to do as you please with and have fun with. But am I the only one that just likes the classic wood stocked M1A?

Wood stocked M1As are fun, but modern stocks take the rifle to a higher level of performance.

tbtrout: you're not alone! not only are those Terminator looking M1A's ugly as sin, they look thorny to hold on to! Looks like a knuckle buster just by picking it up. Man!

Those things look great on someone's floor all gussied up for the camera, but they look like the metrosexual of rifles.
Put 'em in a usgi fiberglass stock, and spend the money on ammo and training.

But, I should mention I prefer the M1 to the M1A because of that protuberance out the bottom...I haven't done a test yet, but I'm gonna soon: M1 vs M1a: 64 rounds, timed, offhand, loading from your choice of mag/clip holders at either a 200 yard gong or a 6" bull. If I can't get better with the M1A, as much as I love it, then I'm going back to the M1. Easier to hold, and when the balloon goes up, all your battery filled devices will probably get a float test anyway. then those rails will be good for what?
