Knife homocides were up 50% in NYC in 2008, gun homocides were down.

Shockingly, experts came to the conclusion that if a gun wasn't present, a knife worked just as well. Who'd have thought?

They also came to the conclusion that knives are easy to get a hold of, are everywhere, and can't be controlled. You have to have extensive credentials to come to these conclusions?

See the NY Times article here:

They had the following degrees:
BS -- Bull ****
MDS -- Mo Da Same
PHD -- Piled High & Dry
:what::eek::evil::neener::D

Around me, just make the mistake of bringing a knife to a gunfight.:uhoh:

So are we going to have to break out the tin hats for our knives now? :) I have knives too and I can't divide my energies between my guns and knives.

This is how it was in Saudi when I lived there. Guns were not as readily available and most of the assualts and murders were knife attacks. Mostly in the back too....

We should ban assault knives!
Assault Knives, Hmm is that a:
Scimitar
Stiletto
Box Cutter
Schrade pocket knife
:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

The reason I asked was, there was one killed here in K-town a couple of nights ago and they figured it was done with a box cutter, the kind that are sold in every dollar store, Kmart, Wallyworld, hardware store in the land.

does not stop them from trying.

They aught to come on down here to Washington D.C., where the common small kitchen knife is the street muggers number one favorite tool.

Cheap or free from thier grandmothers house,

Easy to toss down the nearest sewer as they run away from releiving you of wallet and cell phone.

Just a matter of time before criminals get their hands on bombs. Really, I don't knwo what has taken so long.. Making home made explosives is not that hard and just hasn't caught on yet. As we saw in Oklahoma City, some gardening tools and a really twisted mind can do quite a bit more damage than any gun.

Eventually weight and strength will be regulated.

If you weigh over 200 lbs. and can squat/deadlift/bench for a total of more than 4x your weight you will be required to go on a massive weight/strength loss program unless you are properly registered and licensed. Licenses will only be given out if your job requires this level of strength (bricklayer, steelworker, oil roughneck).

Not likely. The average thug doesn't have the motivation or brain-power to put a slingshot together, much less something requiring arithmetic and a little chemistry knowledge. If someone else didn't make the thing for them, they won't use it. Even at that, we hear of some thugs who are so stupid that they can't even buy the right ammunition for their gun.

These trends (both in increasing efforts to 'outlaw' anything that can be used as a weapon, and constant shifts in violence as miscreants continue to be, well, miscreants) have been clearly shown in the UK in the last decade or so.

And you can't defend against knives. At least with lax gun laws, which usually reduce crime, you can have a gun. These places won't let you carry knives though.
