Me and my buddy sometimes volunteer at a local resale store for a charitable organization. Anyway they had a pretty broken down R/C Car probably 14 inches long (Chevy Impala) that came in and put $1.00 on it. We were considering picking it up and fixing it for the purpose of a one-time drive around the range while the other guy tries to hit it with a shotgun or .223. Anyone ever done this or something like it? Is it worth the $20 or so your going to pay for the used cars?

BTW I am speaking of doing this in a safe a manner as possible with the shooter on the firing line and the driver behind him down the line a bit. I'm not a total idiot suggesting someone CHASE an R/C car around a range.

Disclaimer: Ok this thread MAY be a little on the edge as its probably not environmentally sound and pushes range safety a little, remove it if you feel the need just PM me please if you do.

Last year at Christmas Wal-Mart was selling RC trucks (over a foot long, and almost as tall) for $5. I got one for my nephew, and it worked great.
Something like that would be perfect. Much better than $20 for what might be a 1 shot game.

attach a piece of pvc pipe to it. attach a shirt to a hanger and then to the pvc. move the rc car and shoot the shirt.

I agree with Kanook, attach a target above it and it will help your shooting skills instead of a one shot one kill.

While a shirt is a good idea, I think if you're picking up a crappy rc car/truck it might not go fast enough to allow enough wind to catch the shirt. Perhaps a balloon on the PVC pipe?

My brother ran into a two guys out in the forestery once that had the back of a Blazer full og model cars. Turns out when they got bored they shot at the models instead. These twits also carried rifles and bows thinking the game laws were different for them and they could shoot different critters.

I've done it to practice drawing and firing. Put a 4' tall piece of dowel rod sticking up off of it and attach a balloon or 11x17 piece of paper.

Have your assistant drive it straight at you to practice draw and fire with a closing combatant. You hit the paper, you win. Car hits you (or close enough), you lose.

Back when firearms & firearm related events were allowed at Burning Man, they had the Car Hunt.

Car Hunt '95, was basically some people took an Oldsmobile stationwagon and fitted it to be remote controlled. Then drove the remote controlled station wagon around the NV desert, while other people drove after it and shot it up.

This happened at Burning Man.
Yes, the liberal, artsy, hippish, free love celebration in the NV desert use to allow participants to drive around and shoot things. That was until, the lawyers stepped in and the extreme hippy left took over Burning Man.

Agreed on putting a target on top. You could fold up some cardboard and duct tape it on there, put on some targets, and have fun for a few hours instead of killing the car. The PVC pipe is a good idea too, since you could take sharp turns with the car and have a target...even spray paint a water or gatorade bottle and stick it in the tube. Bright yellow, red, whatever. That could prove to be entertaining:D

In fact, when the shooting ban is lifted around here, I may have to try that.

I remember a SWAT sniper team used RC cars for training. THey tied two different colored balloons to an RC car, designated one color the hostage and the other the assailant and had a certain time to eliminate that target. It's quite harder than it seems.

Kind of relevant, and something I'd love to do someday...

I saw a show highlighting Dillon (and later bought their video of it). They use a RC plane, packed with "explosives" (probably tanerite) as a target for their machine gun shoot. Looked like a lot of fun. (I guess I really didn't need to state that here.) Made for a real good showing at night.

(For any safety concerns, this was done on his multi-thousand acre ranch.)

I occasionally mount paper sails on a couple of my old (1960s) Eldon sailboats and then peg away at these fast and erratically moving targets. The canal banks around here make for a safe shooting berm and also reduce the normal near-gale winds to something that doesn't instantly capsize my targets. Air-gun is fun, .22 is good too, but my favorite toy for punching this kind of paper is the .44 cap-and-ball. Aim fast, before it runs aground!

I haven't punched a hull yet, although I've had to replace a few masts.

But what about all the little plastic bits that will contaminate the environment? Be responsible and use a 'possum like the rest of us guys that refuse to grow up. Nature recycles 'possums quite nicely. Just don't do it when the moon is full or you risk creating a zombie 'possum.

Well they're all remote controlled. You just can't turn them off and the controller doesn't work very well :D

Catch an opussum and tag a target to it and you'll earn a whole new level of respect from me and everyone else on here

Not a bad idea with the balloons. Just fill some cheap balloons up with helium, tie a few at different heights to an RC car, and take a .22 to 'em.
