Glock 27

What good is an empty gun. 9mm is a world wide standard and the Glock 19 is as good as it gets my friend. Second choice would be the G 26. They just don't make them any better than that!

Unless he is planning on traveling overseas with the gun, 40 is just as available in the US as 9mm. I doubt he has to worry about having "an empty gun". Though I prefer 9mm in a sub-compact, that is beside the point. If he likes 40, he should get 40 and not worry about availability. 40 is in stock everywhere.

I guess I should include that I plan on the wife learning how to handle it as good as me. So probably the best choice would be the G26 even though my eye is for the G27. If for any reason I can't get to the gun she won't have any hesitation on pulling the trigger.

Easily the easiest to shoot .40 I ever shot. Most of em are way too snappy but the 27 I can easily shoot one handed and control it.

The best holster to conceal that thing, IMHO, is the glock combat master holster. Its a strange looking slide holster, works on the right or left side, but it absolutely tucks the little 40 in as close to your side as anything, holds it securely and weighs next to nothing.

She doesn't have to use the smaller caliber. Women can handle any caliber with practice (just like us apes). Female PO's all across the country use 9mm, .40, .357 SIG, & .45 pistols every day. Not too long ago they were carrying the .357, & .41 wheelguns too. Have her try the G27 or even 22 or 23 and their 9mm cousins. The 23 is only slightly larger than the 27 and not much harder to conceal. My 5'4" 120# co-worker has no problem with her G27. She borrowed mine to try & got one just like it.

My wife's favorite is a 6" S&W 586 revolver (not so good for carry but really good for stationary defense) My 10 year old daughter has shot my 4" .38 spl.

Unless she has a huge flinch, has real trouble controlling the recoil, or just plain likes 9mm better there is no reason not to use the .40 just because she is going to use it.

Both of you can try out different calibers. The .45 ACP in a Glock may surprise you. Most shooters will let you test drive their toys if you ask nice. Some ranges rent. I imagine you know someone who shoots. We just hate to have to go to the range with a buddy to shoot & talk guns. Buy the one you both like best & shoot well. Or maybe even his & hers....

I feel really good carrying my G27. 10 rounds of a good 40 caliber is quite a security blanket.

i already owned a glock 22 so it was a natural choice to get a glock 27 as a companion to the 22. what i really love about the glock 27 is the choices it allows in grip size. if i were to ankle or pocket carry, i would use the stock factory magazine. my most common carry method is 4:00 iwb and a three finger grip really aids in the draw so i added a fingertip extension. with a good amount of forward cant, the extension doesnt decrease concealability but does improve the grip. i want the short barrel but a full grip (like that of the glock 23) i use a 13 round magazine with a magazine sleeve. the sleeve fills the gap between the base of the magazine and the bottom of the grip and gives you a grip the same size of the glock 23 (the sleeves are also avalible for the 15 round magazines). another benifit is that i can carry and use the magazines for my glock 22 as a reload for the glock 27 as well.

i carry daily with a crossbreed supertuck and love it. it carries both my glock 22 and 27 very comfortably and makes them both dissapear! i HIGHLY recomend the glock 27 for daily ccw. it will serve you well!

I bought one last night. I really liked it. So far I've had a 23, 26, 17C, 30SF (still have it and its my carry gun) and now the 27. I really like the 30SF but sometimes its hard to conceal it because is wide and a little heavy, that's why I bought the 27.At least for me the 23 kicked more than the 27. Here's a pic of the first shots with it:
