Anyone have a Rock Island Armory 1911?

I am returning to the States in February and want an Officers model, Anyone know of a shop in Central Texas that would have one in stock? Somewhere lets say between Austin and Waco?
If not, how can I order now and have it waiting for me?
Maybe I am impatient, but I would really like to have one the day after I arrive.
break it in and then take the class and CC from now on.

Yeah, I have three RIA's.

My first one...

I've got 2 of them. A 38 Super GI model and a 45 Longslide. Both have run without any problems. I have Kimbers and Springfields, but would not hesitate to buy another Rock Island.

I bought a compact RIA about nine months ago. It had some minor initial teething problems that were taken care of quickly and efficiently. It's been flawless since.

I really enjoy shooting this little 1911. The only change I've made was to replace the stock grips with double diamond checkered walnut.

It's a really good firearm for a very reasonable price.

I thought about one before finally settling on something in .40 (trying to keep the number of calibers to reload to a minimum). Everyone I spoke with in the process told me to buy it and never look back.

I got this one last year after selling off a RIA GI. Love it. David

Love Mine.....

and I've always been known as a "gun snob". My other handguns are an Ed Brown Carry, Sig P-220 Stainiess Elite, Springfield EMP...there are more but....well, you get the idea.

While I love the LOOK and FEEL of the higher-zoot pistols, my favorite "shooter" is my RIA Tactical Compact!

I only bought it because a friend at a local gun shop kept nagging me.
I'm glad he did.
It is just fun to shoot and wonderfully accurate.
Since then I've added a full sized GI model.

BOTH of the RIA's have over 1000 rounds through them and each has performed flawlessly.

All the other 'guns snobs' I know who have shot the RIA's have either bought one for themselves...or are still waiting to find one!

These are NOT "cheap" guns....just less expensive and not as 'fancy'.

Just a bump for this gorgeous rock. I'm not really a fan of the tactical config overall (GI guns are near perfect to my eye), but I just can't help but drool over your blued RIA.

Every time you post a shot of it, I wanna go find someone who will perform a nice polish and blue of my Rock.

Thanks.

I have shot about 100 rounds through one of them, chambered in .45
I was not impressed, it had about 3 fail to fires and 5 FTE. Compared to shooting my buddies Kimber, it just did not stack up. I would suggest saving another $200 and getting the Taurus model 1911, great gun IMO.

Thank you! I really like it, glad I did the mods to it. It's really pretty, I need to take some better photos of it.

But THIS, this is gorgeous! This is a Colt WWI repro that someobdy sent to Colts Custom Shop for rebluing. I was hoping my Rock would turn out like this, but it's not quite this nice. This is a real legwetter, IMO.

mmy RIA's barrel on the other hand is too tight and won't take them but factory ammo will drop in just fine

Measure your crimp and compare to factory ammo.

I started making sure that my crimp was at .470 with cast lead and it dropped in just like WWB, which is very heavily crimped.

Glad I saw this thread! Contemplating buying one next month myself. Started my own thread about the RIA and it didn't get much play. Thinking I'm getting one asap :)

Cheap 1911. It'll break before something better, but ***...why not if you can get a good price.
that was a statement of ignorance, I have been looking long and hard at posts about RIA's and they seem to break less then more expensive 1911's.

rtn, how about you post some proof of this, especially since it seems to contradict several other posts in the thread. ??:scrutiny:

I just picked one up today. I am looking forward to putting a couple of hundred rounds through it tomorrow. My other 1911's are a Wilson Combat and a Les Baer Custom so hopefully I won't be too disappointed.

The local range uses them as their "Range" gun and they get a lot of use and abuse, so can't be too bad.

I am saving for one. It is my resolution this coming year.

I think the funniest thing I have ever read was the guy who posted... they are tack drivers... maybe a good truck gun? Huh? So, they LOOK like every other 1911, shoot as well as every other one... why put it in a glove box?

Oh well, people are funny.

Mine cost three and a quarter. She's #045 of a Group buy.
Internals are from my Springfield which got itself a professional trigger job.

I installed a heavy recoil spring and silicone buffer pad to shoot heavy loads.
More fun than a 44 magnum  Never a misfeed using Wilson Combat magazines.
