I am looking for a pocket pistol. I really dont know too much about the options available. I have a few stipulations:

Preferably 9mm but .380 is acceptable

would like a rail

easily concealable under pant legs or in waistband holster

No more than $600

Thanks!

why do you want a rail on a pocket pistol? Are you using the term "pocket pistol" loosely and just mean a sub compact pistol? A glock 26 or XD9 SC would be my choices if you have to have a rail. But they arent pocket pistols.

The Kahr cw9 doesnt have a rail but it is noticeably smaller than the xd9sc and G26. I will be $100-$150 cheaper. Should run ~$450.

LCP, P3AT, TCP for the smallest within your price/size range... scale up a bit to the Pf-9, p11, and taurus 709 for the mid sized within your price/size range.... and scale up a bit further to the Kahr CW series, Taurus Milleniums, and Glock subcompacts for the larger within your price/size range...

All good guns....I would recommend the P3AT, TCP, 709, and CW of the most those choices...

Why the rail, Foxtrot? If it's for lasers and lights, you'd best have some mighty big pockets. What size of gun are you really looking for? Do you want it in your pocket, or on your hip in a holster?

If it's 'pocket' guns, like PT1911 says above, you are looking at the .380 LCP's, the Kel Tecs and the like, or my fav, the little Colt Mustang.

If .380 is ok, check out the Sig P238 and the Kahr PM380. If you want a pocket 9 then check out the Kahr PM9. For that matter you could check out the Kahr PM40 or PM45 although the PM40 is a bear to shoot.

In large enough pockets and in a pocket holster, the Kahr PM9 is an excellent 9mm for dedicated pocket carry. However, your stipulations ...

Preferably 9mm but .380 is acceptable

would like a rail

easily concealable under pant legs or in waistband holster

... suggest you're really looking for a subcompact belt holstered gun that can be pocket carried in a pinch. I recommend the S&W M&P compact from personal experience. Other guns in this category include but are not limited to: H&K P2000SK, Springfield Armory XD, Kel-Tec PF9, Walther PPS and Taurus PT709. (No personal experience with any of these.) The Glock 26, unless there is a new design change I am not aware of, fits this size category and is an excellent gun but does not have a rail.

JMOfartO:

Ruger LCP w/Crimson Trace Lasergrips.

Roughly $500.00 otd, lifetime warranty, and if you can ever find any quality 380 ammo out there to shoot in it, you'll be good to go.

Just personal opinion, no offense to those who consider a self defense pistol to be worthless unless the caliber starts with a 4 and it must be carried "cocked and locked"..

Am I missing something? since when does the LCP have an actual lifetime warranty rather than some implied promise from the company...

Kel tec... lifetime warranty to the original buyer
Taurus...lifetime warranty for the life of the gun..
Ruger...something about we cannot put it into writing but we promise we will take care of it (my own paraphrasing of course.)

PT1911,

I'm not an expert on the nuances of each warranty provided by the many firearms manufacturers, and perhaps I'm wrong about saying that Ruger has a "lifetime" warranty.

I just go by what I've personally experienced and the comments from folks who actually owned whatever brand of firearm we might be discussing at the time.

I'm an old fart (67) and have owned firearms for over 50 years, and been a member of several firearm forums for a long, long time, and I just sorta get a feel for what are good points and bad points with firearms manufacturers in general.

I know from personal experience for example that:

1. S&W CS/Warranty Repair is absolutely excellent.
2. Colt CS was in my one experience, excellent.
3. NAA Arms in my one experience, excellent.
4. Beretta, in my one experience sucks..
5. Beretta in my one experience, and from what I have read online, sucks.
6. Taurus CS is ok, but nothing to brag about in my one experience.
7. RUGER, from all I read, and having owned several but none giving me any problems requiring warranty work, SEEMS excellent.

In fact I read where Ruger is quick with recalls, quick to correct the problem involved in the recall, and generally when the smoke clears the firearms owner is pretty happy with the resolution offered by Ruger.

So, my opinion (Quot capita tot sensus), and that's all it is, would be that Ruger, as with most other manufacturers in todays litigious atmosphere is simply covering their butts with the wording of their warranty.

In much the same manner that it seems every product sold in America today has four times more warning pages in the owners manual than actual useful information.

I believe for all practical purposes the warranty offered by Ruger IS to the original owner, and is a "lifetime warranty"..

I guess if you are looking for the absolute creme of the crop in firearm warranties you just need to buy a HiPoint.. Lifetime warranty to anybody, anytime, for their bought new, used, or found in a dumpster HiPoint pistol.

Cant' beat that.. ;)

But until I find otherwise, I think Ruger WILL stand by their products, even if the "wording" of the warranty isn't crystal clear to all.

No offense intended, I could be wrong, been wrong before.

Best Wishes,

jesse

If you're REALLY looking for a POCKET pistol, make sure you look at the Seecamps. You can find a nice Seecamp LWS32 for well less than $500. (And you won't find any rails on REAL pocket pistols.)

Thanks everyone. Really its not the rail Im looking for so much as it is the ability to have a laser. I really like the LCP crimson trace as it doesnt require the trigger finger to activate the laser and its really tiny. Its not a 9 but honestly, at the practical ranges a .22 would work. A .380 will be a punch. Id probably be fine with something that'd only fit in an ankle or inside the waist band holster but the idea of being able to carry a true pocket pistol in the pocket sounds great.

Ive considered the microtech pocket pistol but I dont know alot about it.
