I've been purchasing firearms for about three to four years now....The first two I bought went through without a hitch,as they should...(nothing in my past to prevent it)About 2 years ago I started getting 'Delayed' when purchasing...Once they called back in 10 minutes with a 'Proceed'...usualy it's a day or two..Once it was about 7 days...Nothing has changed in my life...nothing new, nothing different...I was told recently by a dealer that once it happens,it always is that way...I'm assuming there is no fix to remedy this...very frustrating...

You can look into getting a UPIN. It will allows them to identify you more quickly.

I've been getting delays since I did a co-op at a base.

if you are here in arizona, just get your concealed carry permit, and show that when you buy a gun. that way they dont have to run a background check as it is already on file with the state.

Is there a list of states that allow the CHL transfer method? I'm fairly certain Ohio doesn't do it.

I've had the same experiance. And once you're on that list (without a UPIN)you stay there. Doesn't bother me though. Almost all of my purchases are from the same retailer about 15 miles from the house. It would be a real pain if I found a gun I wanted while on the road.

Ive just recently in the last year gotten back into guns and have also obtained my CHL since then. I would guess ive purchased 15 guns from stores that require the background checks. Ive been delayed 3 times now with my most recent one being 3 weeks ago and received the approval 3 days later.
Yet 4 days ago i go buy a handgun and approved right away.
Unfortunately Ohio still requires the background check even if you have your CHL.

Ive been meaning to look into getting a UPIN and make my life so much easier.
It drives me INSANE to pick a gun out and pay for it and then have to wait 3-7 days to receive it especially while im standing there with a 1911 on my waist.

I live in Oklahoma, and I've had my CCW for over a year now...I figured that might remedy it,but it didn't...I will defintely look into getting a UPIN...Thanks all for the advice and info...Very much appreciated !

Could be that someone who shares your name has commited a felony, and so you are both flagged. I share my name with a (repeat) felon in my state, and so all of my NICS checks take upwards of WEEK. :cuss:

My first purchase last year was a denial but was easily appealed after 1 week. Then the next 3 guns were a delayed resulting in a proceed the next morning. I then applied for the UPIN and and received it in 2 weeks. MOre than a dozen guns later, there has never been a delay. It's worth it.

delay

delayed once before cc permit, got a UPIN and no more delays, after getting my ccl no more background checks in tex

Like was said, there is probably someone with the same name as you causing it to stop.
I put down my full middle name....no one in the world has the same middle name as I.

BTW: A theory put forth to me at an old, large, local shop in central Ohio as to the reason we probably will never see our CHL used in place of a background check;
one may have been perfectly squeaky clean the day they ran your CHL check....and a month later been arrested. Now if one's CHL card was lost in that tragic boating accident, one may still physically possess the CHL card, but not the squeaky legal status.

Huh?:scrutiny:

So how does that old, large, local shop explain why about half the states have at least one ATF qualified alternate permit that exempts the purchaser from a NICS check? Their "theory" would be true in any of those states.

The reason your Ohio CHL permit does not exempt holders from a NICS check has nothing to do with boating accidents or whatnot and everything to do with whether Ohio's background check meets the ATF/FBI/NICS standard.

.

Ohio does do an FBI check while doing CHL permits.
I think Ohio has a pretty thorough permit process compared to alot of states out there.
I heard in Alabama you get a permit when you order a large fries at McDonald's, But i could be wrong.

I got delayed for a couple days when I bought a .22/250 bolt action a few years back. Since then I've bought far scarier guns (AR-10, AK-47, a few 9mm handguns) with no problems.

Got delayed a couple minutes last purchase because the store owner had trouble reading my crappy handwriting when calling it in. When I corrected the mis-reading it went right through!

I have been delayed twice about 5 years ago. Since then never. I always wondered why I was delayed those times.

I've never been delayed, but my son has never NOT been delayed. Generally he's cleared in 1-2 hours. Last time we discussed it, he had never had a full day delay.

I looked at the UPIN link. The application asks for Name: last, first, middle, cadence. What's cadence, in this context? First time I ever saw that in an application.

In case there was some meaning of cadence that I wasn't aware of, I googled it. Got a bazillion hits; looked at three. The concensus was pretty much this:

"The natural rhythm of language caused by the alternation of accented and unaccented syllables." There were also mentions of bicycle pedalaling and horses, but both seemed a bit off-topic for this purpose.

So, are they asking me how to pronounce my name?

Jr., Sr., II, III, etc following your last name.

Thanks for the info. I've never seen it called that before.

I was wife of a Jr. and mother of a III - you'd think I'd have come across it at least once in the past 38 years lol.

I've never been delayed and have never heard of anyone being delayed. This is news to me :scrutiny: Part of me wants to get a UPIN to prevent this from happening to me in the future

I'm an FFL. A year ago, I was getting a "delay" on about one out of every fifteen transactions. In the last four months I've had two delays total.

Some states don't require a call in if you have a CCW. Then other states like Florida for any example does a call in if you have a ccw or not. I have never been delayed. I put my SSN down which might help. Someone could have the same name you do that has a record which could cause the delay. FL also has a waiting period on handguns. If you have a CCW you don't have the wait.

Here in NC if you have a CCW they don't do a call in. Fill out the 4473 and walk out.
