I started a 'Delayed at purchase' thread here about a week ago...I just today went to my FFL guy to pick up a shotgun I had purchased last week that finally came in...So of coure after my 6 previous delays at puchase,I was ready for the aggrivation..Well, I was told to put everything down as it is exactly on my drivers liscense...Since the only thing on my liscense that had changed over the past 15 years was my weight,(about 15lbs more now). When you re-new your licsense here, nothing on it ever changes unless you request it at renewal..So I figured I'd give it a shot and put my original drivers liscense weight down today on the 4473...Much to my surprise it went through without a hitch..and I just this morning went and got fingerprinted and sent in my VAF application for a UPIN which I'll use when I get it anyway from now on...Just thought I'd post this if it helps somone else...

Hmmm. You're in Oklahoma? Does your state use the NICS system, or does it use some other 'InstaCheck' or 'Point of Sale Check' background check system? Do you think the dealer really gave/entered/used your body weight for the background check?

NICS check does not use the weight data from the 4473.
My state's InstaCheck does not use the weight data from the 4473.

CoRoMo posted "NICS check does not use the weight data from the 4473."

NICS -DOES USE the weight data from the 4473!

Indeed he did ! I was right there with him when he called it in...And yes,Oklahoma uses NICS system...

chigger...

That's odd, and I wonder why. Well... I know it's for identification, but if my state doesn't use NICS, doesn't use that data, but fills the Brady requirements, what benefit could the FBI see in it. As Colorado does not use the NICS system, I was unsure and all the searching I could do only turned up this bit of info:

http://www.nraila.org/Issues/factsheets/read.aspx?ID=82
Once a dealer and buyer are prepared to conclude a transfer, a retailer who does NICS checks by contacting the FBI system directly by phone will do the following:
1) Call a NICS operator by toll-free number and confirm his identity with his FFL number and dealer-selected password.
2) Provide the operator with the name, date-of-birth, sex and race of the potential buyer and the type of transfer--handgun or long gun. A buyer with a common name may, at his option, provide his Social Security number to help speed the check.
3) The system will check the data...

Does the NICS check use the height as well? How about the birthplace info?

All the guns I have bought, they have always given all the info on the 4473 over the phone to NICS. And I have never referred to my driver's license or military ID card when doing the 4473, so I may have put my weight down as anything between 180 and 195. Never been delayed yet. But I have a very uncommon middle and last name.
