Are you Paranoid?

I have a .45 auto, loaded with hp's sitting right here on my desk in front of me, right below the monitor.
Am I paranoid? No I don't think people are out to get me....I KNOW THEY ARE!

Like most here, I consider myself prepared rather than paranoid. Some people consider me paranoid because I prepare for unlikely events, but the high stakes those events entail merit my level of preparation. When one has already experienced life-and-death situations, one tends to think that they're not as unlikely as most people want to believe, and that maybe most people are in denial (i.e. "It couldn't ever happen to me").

As for me being clinically paranoid, absolutely not. I know clinical paranoia because I've seen examples, one of whom has made deadly threats against me for things I've never done and am not doing, but he's utterly convinced with no evidence whatsoever (he says he has damning evidence, OH YES, but never shows anybody  ). I don't think it's paranoid to be prepared to defend oneself against an armed person who is clearly suffering from clinical, drug-induced (Phentermine has that effect on a select group of individuals) paranoia. Sometimes people think that everybody is out to get them for no reason, but other times people (like me) think somebody is out to get them because that's exactly what they were told by the potential assailant. :uhoh:

I don't consider myself paranoid, I just know there are people who want to see me dead.:D

Couldn't have said it better. :)

Just because you are paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you!

As one man answered, when asked if they were wearing a pistol because they expected trouble, "no, if I was expecting trouble I'd be carrying a rifle".

The word "paranoid" has always seemed quite subjective to me, hence I wont bother stating where or when I keep a loaded weapon around.

Regardless, I do think that the idea of [an individual or individuals] "being prepared" indeed manifests itself differently based on past experiences, location, habits and so forth. So, who is truly to say whether or not one is being simply "paranoid" or "prepared?"

Of course, to me, being "truly prepared" involves using your God-given "software," regardless of the hardware you may or may not have near you.

I am like most of the others posting on this thread. I don't consider myself paranoid, just prepared. Lets say I either have a gun close by or on my person at all times. As far as other people thinking I am paranoid I really don't know because I don't tell even my friends about my guns. In that regard I guess you might say I am paranoid but I figure the fewer people that know about my guns the less likely the chance that I would have to use them. The same goes for my other emergency preparedness. However, anyone that comes snooping around my place would soon find out how prepared I am.

It's the same concept as the toolbox, jug of antifreeze, jug of waterm bottle of oil, bottle of ATF+4 and bottle of brake fluid I keep in my car's trunk....hope I never need it, but just in case, it's all right there....never stranded, never helpless.

Only the paranoid survives.

When I was younger, I had a loaded gun hidden in every room of the house, including the bathroom and I slept with a loaded AK with a 30 rounder AND a Mossy 590 8+1 AND a Colt King Cobra. This is on top of a monitored alarm system and early warning rigs downstairs. THAT was paranoid...

Now I just carry ONE with me pretty much everywhere I go.

Are you Paranoid?

I'm NOT paranoid, but I wish those little green men would stay away from me! Now, where's my tinfoil hat?

Nothing wrong with being prepared but the most important thing of all, however, is to not indulge in "Reverse Paranoia."

"Reverse Paranoia" is when you are afraid that you are following someone. ;)

Not paranoid. It just seems foolish to me to spend the money on purchasing a firearm and training with it and then to lock it away somewhere where I won't be able to access it in time if I actually need it.

I don't keep them all out around the house. Usually, just one on me, and a long gun in a handy location.

A friend coined the term "preparanoid" to describe people like many of us....people that are prepared, but may be seen as potentianlly "overly so" by some.....

Paranoid? No, I'm staying in a motel for a couple days and my carry gun is outside in my truck. It is doing me a lot of good there. Thanks for making me think about it, I need to go outside and bring it inside.

Bad choice of a word. paranoia is unfounded fear, situational awareness in light of the threats to you and yours in the real world is a better phrase. there are a lot of things a thinking person should be aware of and prepare for. Not all involve a gun as a solution.

My answer to the name callers : When you pay my bills then you can have my attention to your opinion.

Unfounded fear.... yes, in many cases, having multiple guns immediately available for home defense is an unfounded fear. Some need them, I guess; most don't.

I live in the country with a major highway running by my property. I have live stock (horses) and I live where it is possible to see bear and large cats (not to mention stray dogs). There are copper heads in the area. And I never know who or what riff-raff from the highway will appear at my door step. I carry all the time or have it near me at all times. Paranoid? So be it...

The only time that I think one might get away with calling me paranoid at home is during extended power outages. I don't know why exactly, but that's when I feel most inclined to keep a gun on hand. I have this strange image of looters coming through my street or something.

It's amazing how vulnerable our culture becomes when there is no electricity.

:uhoh:

Paranoid?

:scrutiny:

No, I'm getting older, I have a bad back, a bad shoulder and I don't feel like running to the safe to get my gun so I just keep it with me just in case I should need it.

:)

What do you mean am I paranoid?
Why ask me that question?
How come you aren't asking someone else?
There is a reason you asked me!
No, I'm not PARANOID AT ALL - make a note of it!
Just kidding!

I suppose the fact that I have two fire extingusishers in the house and one in my truck (I'm talking two 5#'s and one 20#r) could make me look paranoid. Like others state, I think of it as being prepared. I just hope, in the event of any fire that I remember I have these "hanging" around!

I don't plan on having a flat tire, but I keep a spare in my car at all times. I guess that makes me paranoid too.

My friends and family probably think I'm a gun nut, and they'd be right. Certifiable.

Paranoid not.
