I am having trouble deciding, After almost 40 years of carrying just about every conceivable pistol and revolver I find myself in need for a new carry gun. If I go 1911, I am looking at Kimber ultra, Or Glock,or smith MP compact. That was one of the reasons I asked about calibers. I shoot both 9 and 45 equally as well. 45 has always been my favorite because it shoots just as easy as a 9 to me. Now 40 cal always gave my wrist a twist, and I had a G23 for 14 years, "never enjoyed shooting it after 10 minutes. Everything else I think I have seen and considered now I need to act on one of these. Being the Kimber is higher priced, I am selling privately a couple guns that I just haven't carried or shot for some time. I have a g30, that I still rely on as my go-to gun, and a few others including lightweight revolvers. But I still go into some shaky neighborhoods for business and don't want to feel under gunned. Sometimes I do some work for a friend with vending and atm machine repairs, enough said. So it's important to make the right choice, thanks for your input. At one time I used to load for him, but that just got too dang dangerous, it dosen't matter how many weapons you have if you are alone, you can be taken down easily by a group. I just don't have the heart for that at my age, although it was fun. So what did we decide, a 15 rounder or a good old 1911. I'm holding off, I was supposed to make this decision today, but still am up in the air with it. Please try to stay with 9mm or 45cal, that's all I ask.

Save money get a colt kimber, get one of those compact models. I heard kimbers are good.

I just got a S&W M&P in a full sized .45 and so far I really like it. The compact M&P 9 is pretty nice and holds a lot of rounds. If I were looking for a plain clothes/off duty gun I think that would be it. With the new bonded bullets coming out now I think the 9mm is a great round and when you are unlikely to cary extra magazines, the extra rounds are always a good thing.

I love shooting the g30. Accurate as hell for me. Now I just have to find a holster that will hide it

Walther P99C. It's a terrific pistol, both accurate and reliable; it's easy to conceal, durable -- in short, the whole package. It also accepts the magazines for the full-sized P99 (just pick up a magazine sleeve adaptor). This makes the 99C the perfect carry gun, but also a wonderful self-defense pistol for the home and a fun range gun with the extended mags.

I enjoy shooting the 1911's in the usual pistol games. However for defensive purposes I opted for a firearm without external safeties. In a dangerous situation I want t be able to draw, aim and pull without concern for slide and grip safeties.
I carried a Glock-36 with either 6+1 in standard mags or 7+1 capacity with mag extender. I recently opted for a Kahr PM-9 in a pocket holster.

I've carried a G36 for past few years for all the same reasons TonyT mentioned.

Just picked up a G19 few months ago to keep it company.

And, yes, with 16 GDHP's, the smaller caliber matters not and I'm not as likely to be concerned if I forget the extra mag. -Which is rare.

I suggest you consider two great carry pistols - Kahr CW9 and CW45. Right size and right caliber choices so you can pick the one that suits you best. My third choice would be the G36. Thinner than the G30 and carries better.

Boy, does that G30 shoot nicely, though.

Jfrey, I believe the salesman was trying to sell me the smallest Kahr .45 when I bought my G36. I don't ever do anything a salesman tells me to do and might even do the opposite just on principle, BUT, I'm curious what you like better about the Kahr?

Size? Weight?

Very good points on th g36, I had one in my hands a few months ago ata a show. And it felt pretty good. Th 30 with a mag gets heavy ater a few hours. I have a shoulder rig and a Mitch Rosen cutaway for it. I was using the shoulder rig to prevent pulling my belt tight, because of the back thing, but it's so darn hot here now, that anything resembling two layers of clothing is a standout. Someone needs to invent an invisible holster. I even tried one of those "smart carries" it isn't so smart when you sit down with it. lol
