Well, it's been a few years since I had a new firearm, so I did some research and decided it was time for a 380. I have a couple of other handguns, but find they are so big and bulky that most of time, especially in the summer, I do not carry them. And of course, a gun that you leave at home isn't going to save you if you are out and about. After doing some research on the Ruger LCP, and being a Ruger fan myself, I decided to buy one.

So checking out the internet, google shopping and gunbroker.com, I decided to get on a satin chrome model. The cheapest I found was $315 shipped and picked up form my FFL, so I went to the gun show in Norfolk with 3 Benjamins for "flash cash" in my left hip pocket.

The Norfolk gun show was all that the posters on here said it would be, rows of 90% overpriced junk with a few good deals if you could find them and knew exactly what you were looking for. I quickly discovered the Ruger sells the LCP in a little white cardboard box, where most other guns come in a dark colored cheap plastic box. This made the Rugers really easy to spot with vendors with 20 yard long tables full of pistols sitting on dark colored plastic boxes. I went around the entire exhibition hall and found only two vendors that had a chrome LCP, both priced within 5 bucks of each other.

After getting the best price from the first vendor, I went to the second and asked him if he could do $300 even, flashing my Benjamins made no impact whatsoever, and he said "it's not often that someone can beat my prices, if they do have a better price than me (thinking he was calling my bluff), then they deserve your patronage." So, I said, "Thank you, I'll go do that" and walked back to the first vendor, saved myself 5 whole bucks, and bought it.

So I sat down at a nice comfy table, waiting for my background check to go through and talked with the gentleman next to me who was also buying a LCP! He said he had gone around the whole hall too, and they had the best price. The bad part was, he had been waiting an hour and a half for his background to go through, yikes! I guess having an uncommon name pays off here, because mine went through and out the door in less than 10 minutes. The vendor told me cash or card, didn't matter, so I gave her my CC and got another 2% cash back due to my rewards plan. I think she was expecting the cash since I flashed it earlier, and kind of hesitated when I handed her the card, but she did tell me same price for cash or plastic when I made my offer.

So, off to the range today, going to put a couple boxes through the new girl, see how bad she kicks.

I am never ever going to any at the Scope again, I am tired of being disappointed, I'll wait for the ones that come to the Colosseum in Hampton.

Congrats on your purchase, I am leaning towards the LCP for the wife to carry.

Update: Range Report :)

Took the LCP to the Range for the first time. It was funny that I was not the only guy to get there right when the range was open at 10am on a Tuesday and thought I'd have the range all to myself. But, there was a lane open for us and the wife and I got to have our first range session together.

I started off first. Got everything set up, target downrange, full mag, one in the pipe, get a feel of the little girl, aim, fire, and notice that I have a nice little slide stuck back. The problem was a Failure to Feed the cartridge into the chamber after the first shot when loaded 6 in the magazine and one in the chamber. For some reason, the spring from the magazine is putting too much pressure on the cartridge when fully loaded. The FTFs only occurred after the first, and once on the second, shot when firing from a full magazine. Once I was down to 4 or less cartridges in a magazine, no problems.

Is the magazine spring putting to much pressure when fully pressed by a full load? Will some lube in the right place fix it?

Twice when my wife was shooting and she got the FTF after the first shot, I just told her to stop and place the gun on the table. And twice the jam fixed itself when she turned the LCP on it's side and gently laid it on the table.

The LCP kicks a little bit. I found that you need to grip this thing pretty tight, or she'll give you a bite, seems tighter is better, which is hard for the small gun. After around 50 rounds through her, I was ready to move on to another piece.

Looking forward to hearing what a good solution maybe. Thank you!

I had one and only experienced a couplel of FTF when it was new. I would still have it but I became smitten with the new S&W Bodyguard and worked a trade and sold it to get the cash for the S&W.

Clean, lube, shoot, repeat. Run 150-200 rds. through it to make sure it will function properly before CCing it. Load the mags to full capacity and let them sit between range trips.

Many guns experience the same issues when they are brand new. I wouldn't worry about it until after it's had a chance to wear in a little bit. Keep us updated on your progress.

I have a LCP and put 100 rounds through it when I bought it without any problems. I made it a habbit to load all new mags to full capacity and let them be for a while. Maybe the springs relaxed a bit because they sat around for a few days fully loaded?

I've never personally had a FTE. But my friends made it do it by gripping it a little loose. Also, I don't ever load my LCP to +1

It's a good gun, but snappy. It begins to sting my fingers after a mag or two.

Gun shops are small businesses who generally get jammed with 5% discount rates. I also put the service they provide ahead of a few bucks. I'd like to stay on topic but I want to point this out. I will not give business like guns shops a credit card and make them give away 5% of their profit. If I have to, I ask them to add 5% to the bill. In the end a relationship with a decent dealer will save you money. 5 bucks isn't enough for me to decide one guy over the other. My LCP works great since my dealer checked it over for me!!!!!!!

Generally, credit card fees are at about 3% for AMEX, and lower for Visa, MC, and Discover.

My wife bought a LCP. She took it to the range, and out of the box it jammed like hell. She came and got me. I asked her, " Did you follow the instructions and thoroughly clean it first?". No was the reply. I handed her the Owner's manual and a gun cleaning kit. She took it down, cleaned out all the gook from the factory, and re-assembled it. She has now fired 550 rounds thru it with a full cleaning after every 100., and has not had 1 malfuction since the original one. She loves it.

What ammo were you using?

My wife ?? She was using Magtech FMJ. The problem was not her ammo, as she has put 550 rounds of Magtech thru it. Seeing the gun was brand new, she figured it didn't need cleaning. It was dripping with manufacturing oils. She failed to clean it out of the gate. Then again, she is the only person I ever knew who tried to pop creamed corn...

I took my lcp from the box, loaded her with some reloads and shot about 150 rounds without a hitch. When I got home I took it apart and cleaned it. I was amazed at it's accuracy.

I have owned two. I took each apart and cleaned before firing.
Zero issues with either.
The first was within the recall range. I sent it back, it returned working just as well as it did before the recall. It is still working just fine, two years later...

Did you get the 1st Generation LCP with no external sights, or the new 2nd Gen with external sights?

P.S. Ah.. Just messin' with you.

I used two different types of ammo with the same results. From a little searching, loks like my feed ramp needs a little polishing. Its a little rough.

I would not mess with it, but would contact Ruger.
As I said, I've owned two, and both were 100% from the first round.
The first one was a 370 (recall gun) and Ruger's CS was good as gold. Actually, better, because gold is far from free...
