Favorite .45 (non-1911)

The Ruger's, P345 and P90 (P90 is recently discontinued, but it should still be available on the shelves).

S&W M&P, S&W 945 (1911ish).

FNP45.

EAA Witness. Similar to the CZ. The frame is not as big as CZ97, but bigger than the CZ75.

Baby Eagle. Another CZ semi-clone.

Stoeger Cougar.

Beretta PX4.

Taurus OSS

The CZ97 as mentioned before. There is the Glock 21 as you mentioned, but I don't shoot it very well and the grips are a little big for me. Might want to try the 21sf if you have smallish hands.

I really want to try a FNP .45, or the M&P .45.

Or go all out and get a H&K Mk. 23. I have heard that those are sweet. Albeit hard to find and very expensive.

I'm sure there are other .45's that I'm forgetting off the top of my head. Oh, the Jericho 941 Compact.

I have had quite a few non 1911 45's over the years, mostly compact versions since I like to carry a 45. I really like shooting my P220, but it is just a bit too large for me to carry. Up until I got my first HK USP c 45 I would have said the M&P and it's still a great pistol for the money. Unfortunately the USP 45 was stolen a couple of months ago, so I replaced it with an HK45C. That is now my favorite non 1911 45. Of course, if we include 1911's, my SIG C3 and STI escort would easily be in the running.

XDm 45 ACP

My brother-in-law has the XDM 45 and it shoots great. No failures whatsoever through first 300 rounds. I have 3 XDm's, but not a 45, which have performed flawlessly.

Third Gen Smiths ie. 4506 4566 457.

Tough as a tank, reliable as the Tax Man.

Non 1911 45

Favorite IDPA/USPSA Non 1911 45 ACP - Sig 220 Match

One of the most accurate, well-made 45s I've shot... my 'bedside' and at times, CCW pistola...
IMHO, one of SIG's best!!!!

I like my FNP 45, but my S&W 745 is fun too. I just picked up a 220, but haven't had a chance to shoot it yet.

One more plug for the CZ 97.

Last one I owned was compact S&W 457. Depending on ammo used reliability was about 98%. The accuracy was pretty typical of standard factory 3rd gen S&W acceptable but not as good as some other makes I have tried.

HK because reliable, ergonomically superior to anything I have held other than a 1911, accurate, easy to maintain/clean, durable beyond reason, and the list could go on and on for me. I really enjoy owning my HK45C.

This one, approaching 8,000 rounds, my HK USP 45 is neck and neck with the 97.

For carry I like my G30. Its compact, light weight, large capacity, can accept G21 mags and is amazingly accurate for such a small package.

I'm in love with my Witness Match in 45..superb groups right out of the box...the trigger is just as excellent and has spoiled me.This feels like a mans gun and gets alot of questions at the range bc she's downright sexy.

My USPc 45 has been sent to Bill Springfield and had the trigger job on both SA & DA as well as his accurizing pkg....it can hang with the witness but obviously doesn't feel as refined on the range but it"ll eat anything you feed it so its my SHTF gun..

SIG P220 ... reliable, accurate, ergonomic and aesthetically pleasing. My first .45 semi-auto was a Ruger P90 that I bought in '92. I shot a few thousand rounds through it but was never really happy with it. The local range had a gun shop in the lobby, and after handling a P220 in early '93, it took me all of 10 seconds to trade in the Ruger to buy the P220 and I never looked back. I now have five P220s and after shooting all manner of .45 ACP semi-autos over the years, the P220 is still my favorite non 1911 and probably always will be. Here's my first (top left) that has consumed more than 15,000 rounds without changing a single part. It looks good in the photo but there's a fair amount of wear on the rails, and scratches, scrapes and dings in the slide ... I love that pistol. It's shown with a P220 Carry ... also an excellent pistol.

I've had my 457 for about ten years and I wouldn't let this thing go for anything. This pistol has never jammed, no matter what I have fed it (just about everything), is smack-on accurate, 7+1. It is a bit heavy but it is the most trustworthy of my carry guns (okay, my G19 is just as good).

It is also a bunch-o-fun to shoot, love it dearly:

Also not sure about the mag release but all else seems great.

The sig seems to have a wonderful track record and I've shot the 229 befor but the 220 just feels dated. And with the new sig QC who knows. The 220 elite dark does look pretty spiffy. I feel as thought you can't grip the gun as high on a sig compares to others though.

Variant 9 removes the decocking function. Guys over on HKpro says it cost about 10 bucks for the part(s) you need and if you don't like it it's always easy to go back to Variant 1.

My vote goes to the HK45c. The only other pistols that I shot that was more accurate and absorbed recoil than my HK45c was a full size 1911 with a ninja-fied trigger. Very smart to exclude 1911's because even though my heart is with HK, I'm smart enough to know nothing beats a high quality 1911 when it comes to the "man-stopper" round.
