I have to ask. Why dont people like Taurus. This is not ment to be a hate thread but i have shot a few and they seem like quality firearms. Im lookin at a small concealable pistol and Taurus seems like a good choice. I know there might be better guns but why does everyone hate them. Is it mechanical problems, or why? Input will be great.

If you will search and read posts on this and other gun forums I suspect the answer will be obvious. While you can get a lemon in a normally high quality brand, and get a good one in a low quality brand, the experiences by some of us have shown that Taurus is not a quality maker.
If you have one and like it then go with it. It is too much of a hit and miss situation for me based upon my personal experiences.

Regards,
Jerry

The Taurus firearms, revolvers or semi-autos have been some hit and miss depending on what you get new or used. I have a 617, 145,and a 111 and so far,no problems except on the 145 and 111,it's hard for me to get the slide back on frame because of disablity in my hands.

I have a PT111, purchased around 2004, and have not fired it since. Constantly jammed while feeding.

But, I have a Taurus Ultralite Titanium .44 revolver and it has been as trouble free as any of my SIGs, Berettas, and with the raging bull frame on this light revolver it is, in my opinion, a great gun at a great price. So, while I'm not a fan of their semi autos, I am of their revolvers.

And, I know quite a few who have raging bulls, and none have had any problems.

I'm not very familiar with their autos, but if the revolver you are looking at passes the checkout process stickied in the revolver forum, I'd have no qualms. I bought a Taurus 94 and didn't follow the sticky too closely and got burned (my fault). I followed it on 2 others though and got an excellent 6" Model 66 .357 Magnum (wish I hadn't sold it) and an equally nice Model 431 3" .44 Special.

I'd love to find another Model 66, particularly a blued example, for $300 or less in good shape.

Some of their specific models get more complaints than others. The .22 LR Model 94 revolver is one that seems to have a fairly high turd rate (rough triggers, binding cylinders). The .357 Model 66 OTH, has an excellent reputation. It's like the assembly line making the 66 employs skilled craftsman while the 94 gets the high school flunkies and chimpanzees.

Hit and miss... My buddy carries a Taurus .357 snubby in his waistband, it needs it's screws tightened once in a while but is smooth as silk (if half dissolved from sweat exposure)

My old man's NIB taurus .22 revolver kept losing it's timing, would mechanically lock when trying to rotate the cylinder in DA.

He sent it in the first time, they did nothing to it but send it back untouched, the second time the gun shop he was using called the Taurus rep, told him of the problem, and the failure to fix it, and this time the gun came back in what appears to be a functional state.

I've shot a Taurus 1911, (rental range gun) and it jammed once on the first 2 mags, off and on through the middle, and then managed a full mag on the very llast one.

The lifetime warranty follows the gun, not the original purchaser, which if you decide to take a shot with one, you'll likely need.

I prefer to spend a little more at the outset... you'll lose the savings shipping the thing for repairs.

I'm a big fan of my PT99AF. It's been superb. I wouldn't mind adding a compact semi auto and a .357 revolver some day to keep it company.

Low quality control = some good, and some bad guns. Same with their customer service. They've been known to send back guns after weeks and weeks without addressing the problem.

Just not worth taking the chance on.

I am not a "hater," but Taurus has a long way to go to get me to buy another one, after the absolutely egregious PT945 I had that would never fire more than two consective shots. :barf: To be fair, this was in 1995.

I've owned two Taurus - a 6" 357 (don't remember the model #), it shot accurately, never gave me any problems. The trigger was a little heavy compared to my buddies S&W model 66. That gun was stolen about 20 years ago.

I recently purchased a model 740 Slim on a whim at the local gunshop. I was looking for a sub 9 and the owner pulled the 740 Slim out along w/ the others. I liked the trigger better, I like the 2nd strike capability. It's got 7 rounds of + 40 S&W and is easily pocket carried in my Galco pocket holster (though I do have a crossbreed supertuck that I use about 50% of the time.) Recoil is definitely noticeable, but I don't find it particularly punishing. The little pocket pistol is surprisingly easy to shoot and easy to be accurate with. It has been 100% reliable to this point firing about 600 rounds through it.

I can only speak from my personal experiences w/ Taurus - they've been very positive.

Taurus reputation isn't what you would call gold. It has had many problems with many of its firearms. Because of that, Many people swear never to use them again. Others, How ever have used them and never had one problem since day one.

It's become a Hit & Miss with their firearms. Revolvers and Semi-Autos alike. Customer Service also lacks. I have heard horror stories about guns being at CS for months at a time. I also heard about them being back with in 1-2 weeks.

Yes, I own a Taurus. I really don't have any complaints about it. I haven't really put it thru a test top give a more detailed experience with it.

FWIW, It's the reputation behind Taurus that makes people look the other way with them.

My only experience with Taurus has been with my wifes model 85 revolver. While I haven't shot it a lot it is fine. However I have read so many negative posts by people that have had experience with them I find myself reluctant to take a chance on them.

You might be able to get better prices somewhere else but I was in a shop today & browsed their firearms counter. The PT111 was the same price as a Smith & Wesson SD40. They had a Ruger SR9c for $50 dollars more & they had a used Beretta 92G (it appeared to be a LEO trade in as they had several of them) for the same money as the Taurus. I have had a positive experience with the Ruger I own now. Ruger & S&W both have good customer service reputations. My only experience with Beretta was putting a few rounds through a 92FS at a rental range once but I liked it & the trigger on the 92G didn't feel bad at all for a traditional DAO. So I see no reason to spend my money on Taurus when I can get guns from makers with better reputations for close to the same money.

Thanks for the imput. I do have to correct what i said. It was ment to say im looking for a concealable revolver instead of just pistol but all is well. My search continues and i still dont know what i want yet. Just plan on getting one soon though.

I've got two Taurus pistols, a PT840 and a PT111 Mil Pro. The PT840 doesn't like Remington bulk box(going to pick up some WWB and give that a try) but it loves Federal and even Tula. The problem was brass shavings coming off the rims and gumming up the firing pin, which almost made me mail it to Taurus. I gave their CS a call first, and explained what was going on, and how it seemed to be exclusively with Remington ammo, and they suggested switching brands. I've yet to shoot it since then for reasons I'm about to explain, but I plan on giving it a shot when I get some more ammo for it, in another brand, of course.

Now, the reason why I don't shoot it as much anymore is the little Mil Pro. I picked it up on my 21st birthday, and it's only given me 1 FTF since. Rather comfortable little pistol once I put a Hogue Handall Jr. on it, and it passes my accuracy tests of hitting a coffee can at 20 feet. The little 9 can make that can dance all day long, no issues. The FTF I had was with my dad's WWB, but when I put in Blazer Brass, it ran flawlessly.

I won't deny that Taurus is hit and miss, my PT840's quirks are proof of that. But I'm not one to quit on something, either.

That being said, I'm always looking to expand my collection, and if I have to sell a weapon to do so, the Tauruses will be the first on the chopping block.

I have owned two Taurus revolvers and had zero problems with them. However, I find it hard to justify buying a 24/7 G2 for $390 when I can pick up a CZ P-07 Duty for about $430.

The CZ is carried by Isreal Protective Services and Security, Spain Municipal Police, and five other nations. It has been torture tested by multiple governments and independent agencies. For $40 more than a Taurus you get a gun that is based on "the best combat pistol ever" and has been beta tested and tweaked in the real world of defensive use.

You can get a Sig P-250 compact for the same price as a new Taurus 24/7 G2.

I owned a 709 slim, loved the feel of it but it would FTE and FTF. sent it back to taurus 4 times and finally after alot of fighting with them, my gunsmith got them to send me a brand new one-which i immediatly traded in on a xdm 3.8 9mm. I dont think i will buy a semi auto from them again but ive never had a problem with their revolvers.

the guns themselves are not so much the problem. it is the service. i shot my 24/7 (45 acp) enough to sack out the slide return spring, and wear out a pair of magazine springs. i contacted taurus about this, and they told me to send in the old parts, and they would warranty me me replacements. i asked about turn around, and they told me a few weeks. to make a very long and desturbing story short. it took 4 MONTHS, AND i had to pay to ship my firearm to them, AND threaten to take them to court in order to get my gun back to working order. IF you buy one, NEVER, EVER give up even half dead parts to obtain "free" warranty ones. it will cost you dearly. just spend the money to buy new parts, and forget what it costs. unless the gun self destructs, forget the warranty department.

Like you,I wonder why? Some of the Taurus bashers have never
owned a Taurus.Never shot one or even held one in their
negative typing fingers.Go figure.I'm sure there is a name
for them.Internet something or anothers.

I've had two Taurii (?) - a model 94 and a Pt-22 and both were quite troublesome. 2 for 2

However, I've 5 SW guns and 2 of them also had to go back to the shop. Both a couple of times.

Is that statistically significant? Too small a sample.
