Tell me about your XD .45 ACP

I loved mine. Really wish I hadn't sold it...

Great gun and I would have carried it if I'd had it for a while longer. Accuracy was on par with my Sig 228 and really surprised me. Recoil wise it was obviously stronger than my 9mms that I was used to but it did seem a tad bit more controllable than a Sig P220 I put a few rounds through. I'm not positive, but that could just be because the XD fit my hand better.

Being a Sig guy at heart though, I can't pass up the opportunity to mention that a slightly used Sig 220 wouldn't be too much more expensive than an XD. (You wouldn't have 13 rounds per mag tough )

Well, 3620 rounds in a little over three months through my XD45 tactical. Recoil is mild, accuracy at a round per second at a distance of 12 yards is about 5-6 inches through my hands. Only had 6 failure to feeds caused by nicked plating on reloads, zero other failures. I have big hands so I added the hogue handall to mine and cut out the slot for the grip safety. Mine is worn 5 days a week at work and lives in a nice safariland holster. Zero regrets here.

Take my opinion with a grain of salt. I have shot about a dozen other handguns but no more than a hundred or so rounds through each. I just got an m92a1 that will be taking my xds place at the range to save money. 500 rounds of .45, even reloading with plated, is still about 110$.

I'm really happy with mine. I installed TFO sights, worked over the trigger and installed a trigger stop, other than that, it's stock.

I love my XD-45 Tactical and have had it going on 5 years.

i like XD 45 Service.. had it for 3 years now.. it's accurate, soft recoiling.. i have no modifications on it at all.. it's completely stock.. it's heavy for CCW, but manageable.. rounds are expensive to practice with.. $35/100-WWB @ Walmart..

it's a very good pistol.. takes some getting used to the trigger, though.. and trigger jobs aren't inexpensive with the XDs.. i prefer it because of the grip size/angle as opposed to the offerings from other manufacturers..

essentially, it's a striker-fired Sig P220 using a Beretta magazine in a poly frame..

again, it's a proven pistol.. it works..

Why not a 1911? They have better triggers, usually more accurate than an XD, for a range pistol they cannot be beat. I even carry a 1911 commander length with an officer frame, very accurate, very fast follow up shots. Do you have a 1911? How about one in 9mm? If you had one in 9mm the other 5-6 9mm pistols may become safe queens. Glock G21 or a S&W M&P .45 Vs XD .45, the XD would have to be a lot cheaper than either to be a better choice. I have shot all 3, and my choice would be the S&W M&P .45. I would try all three at a range that rents, then make an informed decision.

I've had the compact for several years. Recoil is soft and I've never had a failure. I still prefer a 1911 though. Better trigger and easier to conceal.

I traded a Glock for an XD45 and so far am very happy with the XD. Within the FNH, Glock and XD group I find them to have more in common than difference. I got tired of never being able to find accessories for my FNH in 9mm so really didn't want to go there again. I really wanted one more safety than the Glock offered; the grip safety of the XD fit the bill perfectly. I do not plan on conceal carrying the gun (that's what my LCR is for) open carry on a Blackhawk Serpa is where it feels most comfortable for me. This XD is a keeper.

My XD45 tactical is my home defense gun. 'Nuff said.

Bought the 2nd XD-45 from my LGS when it came in. Very happy with it. Haven't had a single failure with it. I don't Carry it as I find it a little on the heavy side (14 rounds of 230 grain JHP will do that to any gun). Still, it's a nice gun that eats everything .45 ACP that I've put into it.

I had an XD .45 and it was a great shooter. The only reason I sold it was that it was full sized. The XD 45 Compact would be a superb carry gun in my opinion. It is small, reliable, carries 10 rounds of 45acp, and its easy to conceal. Its also built like a tank. They are a very rugged design.

If you have a xdm that you like, then you'll like one in 45 as well. Not much else to say.

I have one. It's dead reliable, it holds 13rds of 45acp, I shoot it well. It's kind of ugly, it doesn't inspire mechanical lust in me or anything, but from a pure utilitarian standpoint, it's a great gun. It's on my nightstand every night.

One of two guns that I was so impressed with, I bought one the next day after shooing a freinds XD. Quality control seems to be excellent, the one I have was perfect out of the box, fit and finish are excellent.

While lightweight, they are very comfortable to shoot. The only thing to be aware of, is that they won't do target type semi-wadcutters. This is because of the barrel drop in unlocking, the extracting round will hang up on the square shoulder of the bullet in the magazine. The effect is pretty gnarly, mangled cases, bent rims, bent magazines, you'd break something if a person persisted in trying to shoot these. But any other bullet design with a rounded ogive works fine, including hollow points. I'm shooting 200 grain cast round nose flat points in it, and it's 100%.

The 4" barrel will loose you 50 to 70 fps of velocity compared to a 5" 1911. Loads that shoot 820 from my full sized 1911, run about 750 from both my XD and 4" 1911 compact. Ya know, when you're talkin about flying ashtrays, what's a couple of fps anyway? You can always go with the tactical or XDm models for a longer pipe. I prefer the compactness of the 4" service model.

So far I'm getting 1 1/2" to 2" groups at 25 yards with mine, and I haven't really fine tuned a load for it yet, there may be better groups to come as I play with loads a bit.

Oh, Japle, how do you like that Clays? I've had very good results with Titegroup, and have wanted to try some Clays as well. I have some Universal, but honestly can't say I have found any pistol loads I like with it yet, it seems to have kind of a pressure spike in it where it's burning rate seems kind of mild at low loadings, but then all of a sudden, as you're working up the load the pressures all go whacky and pressures and velocities increase exponentially.

Anyway, back to XD's, great gun, I'm very happy with mine. Those are the velocities I chronographed from it, the chrono was 7 yards downrange (to eliminate sonic blast affecting readings) I measure about 820 fps from this load from a 5" barrel.

I had one, it was okay. 5" 'tactical' model (shorter grip, longer slide)

Was able to get this kind of group out of it at 10 yards


Things I liked
-5" barrel with a shorter grip...they are the only ones who make a .45 like this, to my knowledge. I used to carry it IWB, gave no problems
-it was accurate, as seen above
-3 free mags (SA was doing a promo back then) that were shipped overnight

Things I didn't like
-trigger. i hated the reset (very long) and that you have to pull the initial slack of the trigger on every single shot, due to the long reset (yes i could shoot it accurately, but it took longer and more concentration to be able to hit the groups like i did)
-grip safety. i don't like anything that doesn't need to be there

Neutral
-recoil. it 'kicked' a little harder than a glock 21, but nothing harsh
-price. on par with other poly service guns
-aftermarket stuff. not as much as glock, but enough basic stuff (night sights, holsters, etc)

I no longer have the gun. I prefer my Glock 21SF. However, I might purchase another one of these later...I did like having the short grip with the 5" barrel. It was unique

I have the 4.5 inch barrel XDm-45. But I've got to tell ya I was always of the mind set that I would never own a tupperware gun, but was I wrong! The first thing I noticed shooting it was that is was surprisingly soft shooting, however the grip was small. I have odd bear-paw hands and I had to swap out the backstrap to the largest size at the range.

After the swap, the gun felt like my Colt Combat elite with the arched housing only thicker. I brought an assortment of Hollow Point ammo just in case it didn't like something. It shot Speer GD, Hornady XTP+P, and Corbon JHP+P just like it was FMJ ammo. And as for accuracy, well look at this target from 14 yards:






I had it loaded to 13+1 and I can only see 11, maybe 12 holes. Which means that 2 to 3 rounds went through the same holes. I shot a total of 310 rounds of which 60 were hollow points and the rest were Magtech FMJ and Winchester FMJ (the light ones that look like JSWCs). After all that I was amazed at how soft shooting it was, It makes my Defender seem like a torture device.

I don't have experience with the xd 45 but I know my XDm 40 tactical inside and out. We have had an ongoing love affair for almost 2 years and I tell you what I'll proudly cheat with her big sister if givin a chance. They have the best ergonomics I have found. I like the grip safety also. Its just an extra little security when handling the gun. I have witnessed my buddy holding his unloaded glock with a ghost whatever trigger and he fumbled the gun just right where his finger caught the trigger. An unfortunate mistake from an experienced gun man. Had it been loaded who knew what would happened. It may have went off or not. He just got caught up in talking and not paying attention. That's why I like the grip safety. The XDm is my favorite gun I own.

Then that would have been a negligent discharge. If he's handling an item that has the power to take away the life of another person or himself, he should give it 125% of his attention at all times. No excuses. The Four Golden Rules of gun safety are greater than any safety can ever be

my xd45 jammed with any quality fmj i ran in it. the accuracy went downhill the hotter the barrel got too. sold it after 750 rounds.

With handloads it is by far the most accurate handgun I've ever owned.

Strahley, you are the first guy I've heard voice the same complaint I had about the XDs trigger. My M&P reset is right on the sear so you have no take up to fire the next shot. Getting used to the XD trigger took some effort. It worked fine but it did take a little more effort to shoot well.

TFO night sights should be installed by now, so as soon as I get back on land I'm going to pick her up from the gunsmith.

I was having a problem for a while with the slide release, because the way I was gripping the gun, my thumb would push up on it while shooting, causing the slide to lock back.

It has less percieved recoil and is easier to hold onto than my P3AT! hehehe. I haven't shot many handguns and it was very brief with all of them (one or two mags), so I'm sorry I can't really talk about them too much.

I'm also planning on using my dremel to mill some of the plastic where my thumb makes contact on the rear of the grip. The little dimple is a bit uncomfortable to me so I'm going to extend it back a little bit.

Other than that, love my XD45. I'm only 1200 or so rounds down the pipe, but I'm printing 3" circles at 15 yards, with most of my rounds knocking out the 1.5" bullseye on my target, specially on good days. Double taps aren't too tough to keep on a pie plate at 15 emptying the mag very quickly.
