Timeline when I got my FFL a few years back:
App submitted/check cashed in late January.
Interview in April.
License dated May 1 arrived in the mail on May 6.
BlackDdefense I just went through the exact same thing u r starting on an the check was cashed around april 23 and on june 10 th I got my call for the interview and my license arrived on june 26 th. On the store front they told me it was not a true store front because it had the same address but there inspections can only be in my shop that's about 35 yard away form my house but that my just depend on ur agent that does the interview. But good luck and welcome to the club
UPDATE: Got the call yesterday and inspection is tomorrow. Also....Bubbles.....you were absolutely correct about ITAR. Even though it is the Department of State that is charge of it, my ATF agent explained on the phone that I would need to register for ITAR because it reads "any MANUFACTURER OR exporter of defense articles" which defense article are pretty much any firearm among other things.
Question that i have is: do i need to register for ITAR right away or just proir to "manufacturing" anything?
Yep. Firearms, parts for firearms, plenty of optics, ammo, .....
If I remember, you'll be 'manufacturing' firearms, but you're not going to manufacture (mill, serialize) the lower receiver; you’re going to purchase lowers and build on them, correct? If that’s the case, you could probably ‘manufacture’ prototypes and samples without ITAR registration. I guess it depends on how quickly you plan on selling you’re products.
