In the market for a 45 Auto

The slide on a glock 45 looks like a shoe box with sights....so that out.
Look at eaa a 45 witness would be cool. I didnt like your other choices either.

I'm not going to vote. The M&P45 and the G21SF are both great pistols. I can't tell you what's going to fit your hand better. I'd also not rule out a SIG CPO P220. I've seen some of those that were in really nice shape for a little under $600 recently. If you like SIGs it's a great price to get one in .45 ACP. I don't know how you feel about the XD pistols, the standard XD-45 is a pistol I shoot well. Again, I can't know what feels good in your hands.

45 Sig Compact SAO

I don't have any objective evidence supporting this firearm, but it is what I have been checking out lately. They have this at CDNN for $549. Looks interesting.
Or the full size at CDNN is $649 (more than you wanted to spend) but it comes with a third mag, night sights, and a holster.

I have a 1911, a Glock 30SF and a Ruger KP-90. The 1911 is a piece of military history, the 30SF is just a dream to shoot and the KP-90 is well ... it's a dream to shoot too.

I need to shoot the 1911 more I guess but with its propensity for ball ammo (specifically FMJ/RN) which I load basically none of, it just sits and screams WW2 at you.

The Glock and the Ruger have fed and fired everything I've ever given them. And being a handloader and boolit caster since the early '70s that includes hard cast in SWC, RN and TC and just about every jacketed bullet you can find. I prefer weights in the 200-230 grain but all have worked flawlessly.

What to buy? Man I got no idea. I was, for a while, considering getting another .45 ACP or even a .45 GAP. But I sprung for a nice GPS instead. I'm kind of leery about adopting emerging technology; used to demand all metal guns too. Old Dawgs can learn new tricks sometimes.

sounds to me like you already made up your mind, maybe go to the range and try them both for a side by side comparison?

I would hang on to at least 1 9mm if I were you. I don't own a 9 but if I had one I would keep it simply for cost-effective practice. Even reloading, 9s are cheaper. Not counting brass (which I get for free in popular calibers) I think 9 was about 10c per round to load up, my 45 costs 12-15c just for the bullet. If your buddy would take the G19 instead of the M&P then you would have a matched training pistol for your new addition.

Same goes the other way if you stick with the glocks.

Sig's used (the ones they get and approve... can't think of the name) are often very reasonably priced. Seen a couple P220's for around $600.

My vote goes to a Sig, but if you want new, then I'll say either an XDm, M&P, or the Glock. The reason I don't say one, is they are drastically different grips. Pick the one that fits you, and you'll be fine. They'll all be reliable and accurate. Just depends on what fits you better, and what you shoot better.

Although the glock and smith m&p are good choices i gotta say the springfield XD45 is a nice shooter as well;certainly worth a good look.

That being said, I prefer the parts availability of Glocks.

I have a CZ in 9mm and have always wanted the 97. I've heard nothing but good things about it. Maybe some owners on this forum could chime in.

Don't Rule Out the G36

I have Pearce +0 mag plates on all the mags to provide a pinky groove.

This is a compact, accurate, reliable, dependable, lightweight, easy to shoot .45.

If you already have Glocks, stay with Glock. That way you won't have to deal with 2 different triggers and 2 very different grip angles. The 10 round magazines of the M&P are a big negative as well. Why have a gun that big with only 10 rounds when everyone else's full size holds 13-15 rounds.

If your other guns were M&P's I'd tell you to stay with M&P FWIW.

I have (3) 21s, one is an SF I love. One thing you might not even be interested in: the Storm Lake 10mm conversion barrels for the G21(sf) as well. Great fun. Not sure if anybody does conversion barrels for M&Ps?

I voted other. Compared to the G-21 and the M&P, the XDm is a superior pistol. The ejection port is relieved, the Glock's is not. Barrel with conventional rifling so you can shoot cast lead and that barrel is match grade. The XDm is designed to shoot SWCs whereas the standard Xd is not. And with the interchangeable back-straps you get the best of ergonomics. 14 round capacity vs.11 rounds for the M&P. The XDm has aftermarket parts and kits available like the PRP trigger kits that allow you to get a trigger comparable to a fine 1911.

I can tell you that I used to own a Glock 21. I sold it to buy a Glock 17 when I simply couldn't afford to shoot .45ACP anymore. Damn, I miss that gun each and every day.

Other

Gen4 G21. Not only do you get the slimmer grip but you get a better grip texture and a bigger magazine release. The only downside is the slide finish, a lot of people don't like the Gen4 gray slide finish. Most G21SF's have the black shiny slide finish, that's the only benefit I see to getting the G21SF.

I voted glock. Because you can get 30 round magazines for it now =D

If you shoot a lot of glocks it makes sense. Keep it simple. The gen 4 would probably be the best to make sure it fits your hand. It gives you 3 rounds over the m&p, more holster options, and you don't have to learn a new trigger.

But if its just a fun gun...it doesn't really matter.

Xdm 45

Sig P220. I like DA/decockers and the general design of the Sig. I don't have one, but they don't make my KP90DC anymore.

I voted G21SF. Get the 3rd gen. I think it would do you just fine. For one, it's unrivaled in terms of capacity and reliability in .45ACP. Two, you're already familiar with the Glock system, so there shouldn't really be a learning curve. The G21SF is a fine weapon!
