Why not buy one of the older XD models?

I've owned both the xd and xd(m). in 45acp. I sold the xdm and currently have the xd 45 and its not going any where. I also own an xdsc 9mm. I love both of the pistols. Theres nothing you need to know or be leery of when thinking of the xd .45. The xdm's big selling points are the match grade parts and melonite in the finish. The regular xd 45 has always had the melonite finish. As far as the "match grade parts", its no big deal. The xdm is no more accurate than the regular xd. You can buy the xd over the xdm and save between 100-175 dollars. The money saved can buy a holster or ammo.
I'll be buying more xd's in the future and feel fine with it. I don't dis like the xdm or anything, and if I found a good deal on a good used one I'd probly pick it up.
But as far as new prices compare between the xd and xdm I just don't see the differense

Google Springfield XD 20,000 round torture test. End of story. The service model is excellent and will last a lifetime.

railroader,
Quite a promotion on the xd9 package, good buy!
When the HS 2000 became available in my area they sold for around $260. Last time I looked, the XD pistols were selling for close to $500. Wonder if they're going to continue to offer the XD or replace it with the M model.

XDm doesn't require a trigger pull to disassemble. Simpler and safer IMO.
It's only safer if you fail to clear the weapon prior to disassembly. Can't believe they can convince anyone that such a feature is safer! Ah the power of advertising--------.

When i takedown any semi i first drop the mag, and then triple check the chamber, then and only then do i pull the trigger, and then its pointing in a safe direction.

It seems like Springfield is kind of milking the "M" thing like apple and the iPhone 4 and 4s. It's not different enough for me to buy one yet. I like my regular XD's just fine.

I had a regular XD .45 which was a great pistol with zero problems. If I were to buy another it would be a regular XD and not an XDm due primarily to the latter being a bit more expensive.

I have 2 XD-45's, both 4" and one a Compact. Believe me, you don't give up anything in accuracy in these. They are fine, dependable guns. Go for it!

With apologies to Ken W., I have 5 1/2 XDs. The 1/2 is the .357 Sig barrel that I bought to go with the .40 cal models that I have. Great ergonomics, easy takedown, and the slightly smaller grips that the XDs have over the XDMs just fit my hands better. I'll go on to say that my full size XD9 is the most accurate 9mm I've ever fired, let alone owned.

FWIW,

There is only one type of cast bullet that you should avoid and that's the SWC. The XDm has a feature that allows their use that the XD soesn't have. Any round nose or truncated or round nose flat point will work fine

Just out of curiosity, what exactly is the feature on the XDm?

I own the xd tactical 45 and have had abslutely no problems with it. Only difference i see in xd and xd [m] is price an ergonomics. With the [m] being a bit pricier and more ergonomical with its deep slide serations and more ergonomic grip. My xd has a grip sleeve on it which i much perfer much over the xd [m] grip. Ive only shot jacketed bullets but its been 100% percent reliable. I would not consider the fact that you have to pull the trigger in the xd to dissasemble it when i was buying one. This is no problem whenyou remove magazine and clear chamber. Unless you dont trust yourself or something.

Apparently they don't load lead bullets ... jacketed only. The M will reliably chamber lead per numerous posts. Other than that, if it fits your hand without the xdM's changeable backstraps, no reason not to get it.

I had an xD45 Tactical and shot lead bullets with no issues. I also had a regular xD9. To me, I just didn't shoot either one of these as accurately as my Glocks so I sold them. That was just a personal issue. I like the grip, the look of the gun, and they were comfortable to shoot. I was not good with them. As a side note, I tried holding an xDm last week at my LGS and didn't care for it. I opted for an M&P instead, and love it.

Keep forgetting to reply to this. Got the XD45 the other day. Nothing special, shoots well so far (just a quick "test drive" at the place where I bought it). Thanks for all the input, guys.

One more thing - the "get 3 free magazines" promotion - says that after confirmation, to give 8-12 weeks for delivery. I submitted my request the day I got the pistol; I got my confirmation on Monday (11/7). I received my magazines via FedEx today (11/12). Just outstanding. Couldn't be more pleased with that sort of service.
