AR for 600 dollars?

so now I have AR parts and a useless 500 dollar upper, what should i do?

I believe stripped lowers are classified as "other" as opposed to pistol or rifle. You have to be 21 to buy an "other."

You might try buying a complete lower with a stock on it. That may take it out of "other" realm and make it a rifle. I have seen one ATF letter however stating that a lower that has never had an upper on it but has a stock could have the stock removed and be built into a pistol because a stocked AR receiver is not a rifle as defined by federal law, so that may not work either.

In theory you could take your upper in and attach it to a lower with a stock and that would make it a rifle. I don't know that you are going to get a shop to go for that. It just goes to show how nonsensical a lot of gun laws are.

I've bought two ARs in the last couple of months for $600 each shipped. First is a DPMS DCM rifle, retail $1100, can find them for $950. The other is an Eagle Arms M4. Both are used, excellent shape. Just keep looking around.

Brockak47, have you considered asking your dad to buy it for you as a present? A father buying a gun for his son is hardly a straw purchaser.

I ordered a lower, LPK, and a complete upper with 5 mags (with magpul followers) for ~$650, and they had cheaper uppers available.

Here's what I have:

Surplus Ammo and Arms A3 Upper, 1/8 Black Hole Weaponry SS barrel, MOE handguard $429

Surplus Ammo and Arms Lower, 4 position folding stock, standard grip $159 plus $20 FFL

Right under $600 for a quality upper and aluminum lower. I wanted an M4 carbine length with A3 rails and the stainless/1:8 twist was a bonus that I found within my budget. They have a standard gas block/sight tower with regular hand guards for $399.

A complete one for $600....

My FFL has a complete weapon for $600 right now. It's got a 16" barrel and iron sights. I'm not an AR head so you'd have to ask him for particulars. He, on the other hand, is Mr. AR, whether it's for parts or complete weapons. For you tactical people, he's someone you should definitely know about. I've been using him for shipping for a long time now and have bought 2-3 guns from him as well. He's a good guy, dependable, prompt, courteous, reasonable, etc.

Just google "AMR Arms, Clarksville, TN."

DPMS Oracle's are at or below $600 right now. These rifles don't come with sights though, so that will set you back a little bit or a lot depending on what you want to buy. I am biased towards DPMS, but I still think this would be a great rifle for $600.

I built a Doublestar Arms M4 type with 1/7 twist chromed lined barrel on an LMT lower for 592 bucks. I gave 79 bucks for the lower and the rest was for the kit plus shipping.

Not a top tier rifle, but IME better than an Olympic or DPMS (Flame suit on) and much cheaper.

Just my .02,

I see my thread got bumped somehow even though it has been almost 2 months since I posted this, I thought it was in the dead internet space by now lol. But since it's resurfaced I will follow up and say I indeed did have a family member purchase the lower for me. I didn't however escape for 600 dollars. I was out the door for 710 dollars and some change. About 50 or so was on shipping & FFL transfer fees for the lower. My problem was finding a complete rifle in standard 20 inch style instead of the billion M4 copies out there now ( seems like the favorite nowadays ). So anyway I have a complete 20 inch AR now for 710 out the door ( except the Pmag, cost me like 15 on top of it ) Here's some pictures, It didn't come with the colorful writing on it except on the carry handle logos. Long story short my girlfriend was painting her gun purple and I decided to screw around and color the wording on my AR, I regret it but meh. Here's some pictures ( and some of my girlfriend newly painted barney purple Umarex .22 LOL ) I have not shot it yet, All in all I am happy with it got what I wanted and was only 110 dollars over the 600 dollar mark.

Now you need more magazines, and a lot of ammo. The wording doesn't look bad at all and at least you didn't end up with:
