AR for 600 dollars?

Why? What's wrong with a Bushmaster? I have an older preban model that runs flawless with a 1/9 twist, heavy duty barrel and furniture and I don't think $900 is too unreasonable for any AR these days. I mean you can build one cheaper. Check out Mooney's Firearms, they had complete lowers by companies like LMT and complete uppers from RRA whith Chrome lined barrels for less than the original poster came up with I believe. I figured I could build one with quality parts for less than $600-$650 but at the same time I would have no problem buying a bushmaster completed either. They are just as good as any other AR I have seen out there.

Not at $900 they aren't. I'll pay $500 for that $900 Bushy, no more.

Check out my BCM setup below. Even if I add an expensive Troy rear sight I'll be below the cost of the Shrubby with far better equipment.

Complete BCM upper that meets more of what you mentioned in your OP-$399:

Complete BCM Bolt Carrier Group- $140
http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-...Auto-M16-p/bcm bolt carrier group auto mp.htm

OP, that's as cheap as I would go. I'd probally trust my life with the above setup, assuming good ammo for the middy gas 14.5".

If you're after a heavier SPR setup with a scope and bipod I'd look at WOA that someone else recommended here.
match upper- $850

Me......I'd go straight here:

Expensive but it flows nicely between carbine and rifle, will handle scope, irons, bipod, whatever.

Zero, why ya got to hate. He wants a plinker, not a go-to-war gun. Also I brought up the bushy as a joke but it sounds like bushmaster might have hurt your feelings in the past. I did not see you hatin on the Sig which he could also get (and it was a 556 model, my post was incorrect).

got to palmetto state armory's website.

lower $49
complete rifle carbine kit $459.00

LOL. I just want him to get a better deal than what Cerberus can offer. I'd avoid the SIG556 as well after some of the reviews they've had lately. Which is sad, I REALLY want the SIG P556 model.

There are plenty of decent $600 setups out there, I'm sure of it, but I can't recommend those anymore. But others can, and that's good.

WOW, lots of responses, thanks everyone. As some of you pointed out I am looking for a rifle that pretty much I plink with, I dont really want to get into the whole trust my life with ordeal lol (because in that case my .22 is good enough =p)

what does HF mean in some of Palmetto's kits some are HF and some arent?

HF = Hammer Forged Barrel

They describe their products really well. I choose a HF barrel for longevity. There are different grades of steel and different ways to rifle a barrel. I have shot a HF barrel, and they are accurate, and some more accurate than button rifled. It just depends.

My Hammer Forged PSA dissipator will be delivered tomorrow. :)

Generally HF is a faster way to rifle a barrel, and also stronger for use in Machine Guns or Full Auto rifles. I don't think I will be disappointed with my mid-length HF dissapator with full rifle length Magpul hand guards. I am really excited to get it.
I am using a Surplus lower with A2 buttstock, single action trigger that I measured the pull at 5 lbs.. I also am using a DPMS rear sight (A2 sight without carry handle), and added a few C-products 20 round mags to my collections for a total of $825.00. It is what I wanted in a 16" length AR. In the coming week or so I will have a report of how it all fits together and shoots.
I bought the parts as money came in. I also have a White Oaks Armory 20" coming for competition shooting. I just wanted a 16" AR for toting into the woods for dogs/pigs, and to go with my 16" folder VZ2008 which is also very accurate with Wolf MC HPs.

For a toy get a cheap upper and plumb crazy lower. They dont sell those at wal-mart but Im sure you could get by.

I am not a Sig 556 fan after seeing what I have seen at the range with people that are shooting them.

One can get more gun for the money is all.

They are just as good as any other AR I have seen out there.

You think a bushmaster is really just as good as a Noveske?

got to palmetto state armory's website.

lower $49

Am I missing them on their site or are the back up to $79.95. It looks like the raised the price of their BCGs as well.

build it shoot it

Building a stripped lower is really the way to go. It can be done with a minimum of tools. If you go with an A2 solid stock you can skip buying a wrench.

There are some youtube videos if you want to see how easy it is. My only advice is be sure to put the disconnector spring in the correct orientation.

DSA, Palmetto, JSE and Surplus Ammo all make serviceable uppers Palmeto has some very nice specs. My franken rifle is a dsa upper on a no-name lower with a psa lpk. Sandwiched in there is a SAA bcg.

Take some time with your build. Black friday saw some awesome deals. I'm sure New Years will have a similar markdown.

My Ar15 is a Bushmaster (Xm15 circa 2001) and is one of the best rifles I've owned- accurate, reliable, and has run without a hiccup for 10 years. Fit and finish are perfect even after trips for hours out in the pouring rain after dark looking for downed deer etc. and then thrown in the camp gun rack when I was too tired to do anything but crawl into my bunk. Awesome weapons and well worth a couple hundred bucks premium to know you are getting quality.

I can personally attest to the quality and customer service of PSA. Its my local shop and about 15 minutes from my house. These guys are great.

I ordered this with a carry handle and it came to $465 http://palmettostatearmory.com/2411.php , now im going to shop around for a lower

Can I get a complete lower with the collapsible stock if i wanted to or will it mess the rifle function up?

oh also can the collapsible stocks achieve the same length of pull as the standard fixed AR stocks

PSA, on their website, is advertising a complete rifle for $599.00. All it lacks is a rear sight. I suppose an additional $60 would buy a serviceable carry handle sight to render the gun ready to shoot. I've been considering snapping one of these up myself.

A couple of Del-ton kits so far have been flawless. Great plinkers. Just like the others have said, stripped lower and assembled upper.

brockak

You can run a collapsible carbine stock on that upper. I wouldn't do it but it can be done. A2 , A1, skeleton, ace, rock river shorty.
I think the solid stocks are easier to install. Carbine stocks are pretty darn easy to begin with.

Why not use a collapsible? I want a collapsible for two reasons one is ease of storage, and the second is so my girlfriend can also shoot it, and since I am a lot taller I don't think fixed is the way to go

fixed stock

Balance. I find the 20 inch upper awkward on an m4 stock.

The 20 inch barrel for me balances better on a solid stock. Fits in my shoulder better and tends to be more stable for my 250 meter shots. I don't make many of those anymore.

I have an m4 stock that i use on a 16 inch rifle. An m4 stock is cheap, so is an a2 stock. Have fun with your kit and let me know how it shoots.

I opted for an A2 stock on my Dissapator. I didn't want to buy a $25 wrench to put on a buttstock. I guess I am cheap.

I prefer the feel of a classic style butt stock personally.

so, I go into the gun shop find a stripped lower, ask the guy what age I have to be he says 18, I fill out the form he does the background check and I have to be 21 .. FML

so now I have AR parts and a useless 500 dollar upper, what should i do?

What? It is for not for a sbr or pistol. It is for a rifle, and for rifles law is 18.

i know thats what i said. thats the feds for you i guess, so now i dont know what to do
