Alright, so my brother has an M&P15T .223 AR rifle that he wants to sell. He bought it at Sportsmans Warehouse for ~$1300. Due to him not being too interested in shooting, he is deciding to sell. It hasn't had more than 200 rounds through it. He says that he'll give it up for $1000.

I think this would be a pretty good deal, however, it's not exactly what I am looking for. I don't own an AR, and have been hoping to find a 20 inch full size AR, and his is a 16 inch. It has the full rail, which I was also looking at.

Would there be any possible way to convert this to a 20 inch AR? Also, would this rail http://www.del-ton.com/PRI_Free_Float_Tube_p/pri101.htm fit the 16 inch AR? I know true SPR rifles have 18 inch barrels; how will a 16 inch SPR look?

As far as I know, it has a carbine length gas block, and not a full rifle length gas block; will this inhibit me at all?

Thanks,

AU

I'm not sure about the technical information you're looking for - however, unless you have an extra grand laying around, I say wait until you find exactly what you're looking for.
I know he's your brother, but there will always be someone looking for an AR; his will get purchased eventually.

Hopefully, someone more knowledgeable than I will chime in.

A grand is a lot to spend on something you don't really want. Your brother will probably sell it for more on Gun Broker, which will help him out.

A quick look around gunbroker tells me that's a pretty good price.

Sure, just buy a 20 inch upper. Like this one.

Why do you not want a 16 inch upper?

I just don't care for the carbine length. I'm thinking of eventually converting the AR to an SPR type rifle, and think it would be better to do that with a 20" bbl than a 16".

I'd jump on it. You can always swap out parts, etc if you decide you don't like 'em, and sell the "leftover" parts for money.

That's what I'm in the process of doing--thought one configuration would be "Just perfect", and then I started doing more with my AR, and developed different thoughts, so now I"m thinking of making it into something different. It's not that its bad, just that my ideas have changed.

But that's the beauty of the AR--you CAN change it, quite easily.

Anyhow, that's just my opinion. Hope it helps.
