How much ammo do you carry?

Whenever the sidearm is physically on me she's always in Condition 1 cocked & locked mag topped off. If it's "off-body", Condition 3 Empty Chamber, hammer down, full mag. Having a spare mag while armed-up is SOP for me as well.

FNP-45

I top it off. 15 rounds of .45 acp. If that isn't going to get the job done, then I've really messed up, and shouldn't be where ever I am........... Makes me think of Wal-Mart.

I mostly carry a Ruger SP101 or a S&W J frame though, so 5 shots.

I carry an M&P9

Around the house and car: 17+1 in the gun, with an extra 17 round mag on my belt

Around the farm: 17+1 in the gun, with 2 extra 17 round mags on my belt
(And 30+1 rounds in the AR ;))

Ccracer, that's not what I was reffering to. Your comment about carrying exttra mags, bugs, and moving away from living in a certain area. I live in a decent neighborhood, and don't travel to the "ghetto". Why on earth would I even carry a gun, then? Because I'm prepared. I carry a reload because I'm prepared for the worst scenario. If I need my weapon, I sure hope that mag isn't faulty, or actually run out of ammo. If so, I'll be real glad I had that extra one on my hip.
You seem to think it's ridiculous to carry extra ammo. I say carry as much as is comfortable for you. If you're comfortable with a 5 rounds in your revolver, cool. If you're comfortable with 18 extra mags on your belt, more power to ya.

Smalls, I have no problem with anyone carrying any amount they wish. I just don't buy the 'be prepared' bit. Many compared it to having a spare tire on their car, for what? A flat? what happens when all 4 go flat, carry 4 spares? Most people draw the line at one spare tire. It's understandable, just guessing a flat occurs more often than a hold up. I mean, why stop with just one spare magazine? It's not like Murphy's law is only going to apply to the magazine that's already in the gun.

The video in that link I posted does give a clear need for more ammo. Like I said what someone wants to do, that's awesome. But those that act like your a clown for not being prepared for the worst case senerio, and scoff at the notion of just leaving the house with 'just a loaded gun', makes me wonder how they managed to stay alive until they were old enough to get a permit to carry in the first place.

I carry 10+1 with a 13 round reload on my weak side. Unless it's being cleaned or going on an airplane my carry gun is *always* loaded.

7+1 of .45 ACP in the 1911, one 7 rounder with the same PDX1 HP's in my left pocket, and one more 7 rounder of those in the center console of my car. There is also another 7 rounder in the glovebox full of '53 USGI 230gr FMJ, in the unlikely event that the first 22 rounds are not enough, or if the target is large or hardened to the point of HP's not punching deep enough holes.

Also, in my trunk there is a small pistol case packed to the gills with atleast 5-10 rounds of every reasonably common self contained cartridge found in the world. From .22 short on up to a few varieties of 12 gauge, 7.62x54r, 5.56 and so on.

Its my "Things are looking up" box.

Always Fully Loaded ...

Open Carry XD 40 = 12 + 1 = 13 + 3 extra Mags = 49
Concealed Carry Glock 27sc Gen. 4 = 9 + 1 = 10 + 2 extra Mags = 28

Gota get some more Glock Mags....

Option b with an extra mag in weak side back pocket usually carrying LCP or PM9.

I carry option A (i.e. 7 instead of 7+1), because if I clear my weapon, it is very convenient for me to have a spot in the magazine available for the bullet in the chamber.
