Of the issues I have seen on here this one is not one of them. I was in the middle of loading some BD in 10mm and my metering assembly popped out mid stroke. Nothing broke, but an attention getter as powder started going everywhere. It was like twister with my thumb in the hole and trying to pull the measure off and dump the powder in the can. Over all I was some what successful....Just thought I would share this one.

It does make a mess.

i once forgot to switch back from the quick drain drop tube to the metering insert once. It took a moment to figure out why the hopper was not filling up.

While i have not had one fall out on it's own, I have found that the locking pin sometimes is difficult to get to engage. I always pull on the metering insert to make sure it is locked in place.

This was after about 300 rounds through it since last disassembly. Just thought it odd, but I put it back together and finished up. No problems after that but something to keep an eye on before starting a session.

Yep, sometimes the quick change bushings are a bit too quick. A fat o-ring or have hornady send you some shims will fix it.

If that's all you spilled then you have some fast reflexes.:D Goes to show you that ANYTHING can and will happen when Murphy comes to visit.:uhoh: If you are like me that will be one more thing to inspect and check off on your long list every time you start up each session.

Never had that happen. I assume your powder drops were the same after reinstalling. If not it was not fully seated till latched. Mine is so hard to push it's not going to come out on it's own. May need to remove it for a cleaning. It does not hurt to use lube on the latch, since it will never see powder.

^^^ I have to push in on mine,to compress the o-rings,for it to latch,it won't come out without pushing the button intentionally.Maybe your o-ring is flattened or the wrong one.

I still check my powder drops even on the LNL and the powder cop after 10 or 15 rounds. It slows me down a bit but I am not that worried about the speed. After I put it back together it was off only by a few tenths. It was good and clean, I think it was just one of those things. I will check it frequently now. I mainly wanted to post to share the issue and possibly save someone from the same mishap. There are no Orings on the meter assy where it popped out, just a spring loaded catch. I do agree the bushings could use something to be desired.

Figured out my mistake

So I took the measure apart for a powder change and to investigate a little further. This one was all me and not the product as usual. I had the meter assy housing in backwards and the groove that holds it in place was on the bottom. It looked right and with the extreme close tolerance rotor everything worked well for a while. A little humble pie for breakfast on Sunday morning I guess. Hope my mistake helps someone else...

I was only 25 in and was checking every 10. I also had the lock out die and well under max. The lock out usually will lock at around .3 over or under. I was loading .7 under max. Thanks for the concern blue68, luckily I didn't get to far in but may pull those down later today.

I was going to say you could not possibly have had it together correctly, but I see you figured it out. These things are never funny when they happen, but it will be a funny story for the future.

Glad you found the problem. I noticed you said your RCBS Lockout die would lock up if you were +/- .3 grain. I have 6 of these dies and mine will allow about 2 grains either way of my desired load. I don't know how you got yours to be so exact. The die was not made to be that precise although it would be nice if it would do so.

It starts to bind up on these 10mm at a few tenths off not a solid lock out most of the time but enough to get my attention. The large plunger fits almost al the opening so I think on 10mm it is pretty accurate.

Yeah, been busy at work, and finally got to it last night while the wife was out. Got a few hindered loaded up so far this weekend and I am off again tomorrow, who knows might go shoot em and do it again. I appreciate it again....

I might have once put the metering assembly in backwards myself, pouring powder all over the place, but I'll never admit to it! Never!

The same thing happened to me for the same reason. The gizmo popped out in the middle of loading and landed on the floor. I called Hornady and was patiently walked through the fix.
