How much ammo do you keep on hand??

How much ammo do you guys keep on hand, for what calibers and what kind of ammo?

I'm going to keep-
-500 rds. of FMJ and 100 rds. of soft point or ballistic tip 223/5.56 ammo for my AR15.
-500 rds. of FMJ and 100 rds. of soft point ammo for my 9mm, 40 S&W and 45 ACP combined.
-250 rds. of buckshot and 100 rds. of slugs for my 12 ga.
-200 rds. of soft point ammo for my 30-06.
-Maybe 500 rds. of 22LR.
-Maybe some 280 Rem., 30-30 Win. and 35 Rem. ammo too.

What about you guys?

Thanks, NYH1.

I try to keep around 1000 rounds of ammo for every practical firearm I own. And by practical I mean, not prohibitively expensive to shoot or difficult to get ammo for, and not just a range toy.

I load for 40 something cartridges. Cant really put a number on the amount of each. These days I load on demand and have lots of components but not alot of loaded ammo. I shoot right out of my gun room out to 600 yards and often use the same 5 or 10 cases in a shooting session or load development. For matches and hunting trips I'll load what is sufficient, could be 20 rds or 200 rds. When I was competitive in shotgun sports, I would load 10's of thousands of shotshells in a year and would have a 1000rds on hand at any given time. Now like the others I load on demand. I do have a stockpile of powder and handloading stuff but do that mostly for saving money. Dont believe that the world is coming to an end or the zombies coming so you wont find me with 3000rds of sks ammo under the bed.

I just go finished loading 300 rounds of 230gr LRN 45 ACP from a box of 500 Valiant bullets I bought for $16 just before they stopped making them. I still had about 300 of jacketed and cast on the shelf. I load for dozens of calibers and have a supply of each that varies on the day. I have 400 pieces of 270 brass trimmed turned sorted and in boxes. Why so many? To have a bigger pool to sort from.

One brick of 22 seems a little on the light side.

How many boolits can you make from about 1,ooo lbs of lead...

Eventually that's how many I'll have.....various calibers of course.

I only have 340 rounds of Federal Premium 64 grain soft point for my AR; I need to make a bulk purchase so I can be ready for when the dead walk the earth. :)

No but seriously, it would make me feel better to have a thousand rounds on hand.

.223/5.56 ~ 400 FMJ rounds, 100 Defensive rounds

.270 WSM ~ 80 rounds

12 ga ~ 1000 bird loads, 100 buckshot, 50 slugs

20 ga ~ 500 bird loads

9mm ~ 400 FMJ rounds, 100 Defensive rounds

So about 2,750 rounds between 5 calibers

I still feel like I am missing something in this count though...

I would guestimate about 20k rounds over 10 calibers or more. Not including the more than 10k in reloading materials that I could make up...eventually.

No where near enough! Especially with how the world seems to be going. Sport45 I have the same problem! *in whiney voice* "Why on earth would you want to buy and keep hundreds of rounds of ammo?!?" my answer: "I don't..... I want to buy and keep THOUSANDS of rounds of ammo."

I do have a good pile of .22lr (probably close to 1000), 100 of .32 S&W Long, 100+/- mixed 12ga (bird buck and slug) and only 16rds of .308 (man that hurts to say). Definitely gotta order some more, and a 9mm is on the list to be added when finances allow.

I believe in having a decent supply, especially to make your own (can't wait to get into reloading), but I do believe there is such a thing as having Too Much as I have seen plenty of misfires from ammo stored for too long even if 'kept right'.

Enough for a year or two of worry free shooting, but I'll be adding a new caliber in a couple of months so I'll be stocking up again.
