I received a correct set of dies today for reloading the 45 GAP. I have the brass ready to go and plan on trying some Hornady 230 gr fmj-rn over 4.2 grs. of Win 231 with a C.O.A.L. of 1.137. This is mainly because these are the only 45 bullets I have on hand. I have been shooting 185gr. Speer Lawman ammo really like the way it shoots. Anyone know if Speer sells the 5acp TMJ FN 185 Grain bullets separate or are they only available in loaded ammo? Any other suggestions for a good 45 GAP load? Thanks.

I've been loading the Exteme 185 gr plated using Titegroup and having good look. I read some place that 230 gr slugs may not be a good choice in the GAP.

I think when they first started making loads for the 45 GAP they didn't use bullets heavier than 200 grs. After further testing it was determined that 230 gr. worked okay in this cartridge. All I have shot out of mine so far is 200 gr. and 185 gr. and have been very pleased with these weights. I found another box of 200 gr SWC Berry's bullets #413-916 under the bench but have not been able to find any data for these either. I may try a couple dummy rounds and see if they will load okay in this gun. I have also found that Sierra offers 185 gr. and 200 gr. FPJ Match bullets that look similar to the bullets Speer uses in the Lawman ammo, so may give these a try if I can't locate the Speer bullets.

Where did you find the 185 gr. Extreme bullets?

Thanks, that seems to be the preferred bullet from what I'm finding on a couple of boards I've visited today. I will check with the LGS on Monday to see what they have available. Walmart locally hasn't been restocking reloading supplies for the past couple of months. Not a single handgun bullet on the shelves and a couple cans of powder.
